Sarnia Sting 2022-23 Season Thread (Part 2)

I agree that Gaudreau needs to be better and yes he should of had the 2nd goal and he should've been better in the shoot out but I don't think it's fair to only blame him the D wasn't great either Romeo got walked around twice and Dillinghams been a little disappointing since he's been back

On another note Grover has been let go so we won't see him anymore plus his numbers in JR B aren't very good anyway

My guess is we see
SURZYCIA and a new backup during the break or a new backup + Chartier

Just to add to the pain, Namestnikov scored again tonight in Guelph. He has 11 points in 6 games there. This team is an absolute mess!

Honestly don't care how he does. He was put in a spot to succeed & did terribly. Unfortunate & frustrating especially now that he's going off but we'll see if he sustains it.

I just assumed he was cut considering he hasn't been listed on the roster on the website in a while and he hasn't been listed as a scratch in awhile

The Sting only have 1 defenceman capable of rushing the puck into the offensive zone and it isn't Daviault. He is nowhere a strong a skater as Ritchie and never will be. All the defence Friday night had way too many soft backhand passes and waited far too long to get the puck up the ice. Nice to see Martone improving game by game,great compete level as well as Fischer, he gets his cardio ramped up he could see lots of icetime, no downside there

Hard to disagree there. I think Daviault can move it well via pass but when he tries to go full Cale Makar it only leads to bad things. Faster he realizes who he is as a player the better.

Certainly missing Mast's ability to bring it up & his outlet passing. Dcore looks noticeably worse with him out (obviously lol).

Yah Martone was fantastic. What a sick goal that was. Happy Letang let him go in SO even though he missed. Deserved it. Totally agree on Fischer. Cardio & a faster first step & he'll be an absolute stud for years to come.

I wouldn't be surprised if Gaudreau either doesn't make the WJ team or perhaps doesn't even get invited to the camp. He has a .868 save %. Would be a bad look to invite that to camp as the 2nd lowest save % of any goalie with 10+ games in the OHL (only Ooster is worse)

Wanna know how the rest of the team feels about their goaltending? Read this quote from the Captain Dillingham post-game....

“It almost feels like we need to play a perfect game right now,” Dillingham said. “Teams are capitalizing on a lot of chances that we’re giving them. It's tough losing games you feel you should win"

Thats what guys/teams say when they've lost complete confidence in their goaltending.

Voit was with Dillingham & he seemed pretty pissed off about the game. What a disaster.

sounds hopeful Lantz is back in tomorrow, thankfully.

Gaudreau has been invited to World Jr camp...big mistake and goes to show you that it only matters what you do for Team Canada and not what you for your club.
Voit and Pastajov haven't been invited to US camp (yet)...big mistake and a political anti-CHL bullshit move.
Even in the O, you can't blow a 4-1 lead as easy as that.

Fml. Lol . This franchise like the previous post stated has been crap since the hunters packed up shop and moved to London.

Him blocking you just goes to show how much maturing he has to do. Is he going to block the millions of hockey Canada fans when he lets in beach balls at the world juniors if he somehow makes it? Sensitivity of our youth today I guess. Yikes.

I’m pretty sure it was only Mark involved with the sting and he was just the coach. I don’t believe Dale had anything to do with the team. They had someone else as the GM during that time. I don’t think they ever made it to the third round during that time either.

I totally agree with you on his play this year. But the D allowing tap in back door goals every game isn't helping his numbers or confidence either. We could really use the Benny that use to steal us games on his own!! Hopefully he shows up sooner rather then later.

There we go! What a period! One of our best on the season. What a ridiculous shot by Pastujov to tie it & then what a nasty, nasty goal by Vilmanis.

MacDonell parked out front like usual & a flukey one for Voit but he deserves it. Surzycia was fantastic that period. His biggest problem this year has been 3rd periods.

Great effort & a great win tonight. Well deserved 2 points. Surzycia with a great game in net, especially after the 1st goal. Way to go kid.


Pastujov & Voit were men on a mission tonight. Combine for 7 points (should be 8) & were buzzing all night. Clutch poke check by Pastujov at the end potentially saving a goal before getting his own. He's come as advertised & more. Been brilliant.


Vilmanis was awesome. Sikic was good but he can't score if his life depended on it lol. Ritchie was a beast. +3. Romeo with a great play at the end using his size & muscle. We've missed that.

Gonna be tough tomorrow with it being 3 in 2.5 but get the W & that's 5 of 6 on the weekend without Burke & Mast. I'd go right back to Surzycia.

Most US invites have gone out. They could still get it but not yet.

Didn't get to see the game tonight but great response after blowing a lead last night. Exactly what you want to see! Sounds like Surzycia played very well, which is awesome! Hopefully he can build on this start. We'll probably see Gaudreau back in tomorrow but Surzycia probably gets another start next week with another 3 in 3

Gonna be the first packed house of the season. Hopefully that gives the boys an extra boost. No clue who will be in net I just hope they give us a solid start.

finally got a chance to catch up on the last 2 games.... Gaudreau was awful vs Oshawa. The guy makes zero big saves for his team. I am actually happy Gaudreau is gone the team is better without him I don't care what anyone says at this point. It's shocking he's team Canadas guy ... offence was clicking on all cylinders we just need some defence and goaltending..... Saginaw was the game of the year.... the boys were flying... just proves being on the Road on a back to back doesn't mean you lose 10-0 automatically. no coincidence the game of the year came when Gaudreau wasn't even dressed. If this team just gets average goaltending they're the best team in the West by a bit.

I see your sarcasm but the way Sarnia's offence is flying around there is no way they get shutout. Barrie played last night in Windsor too and they struggle to score goals.... Sarnia should win this game with ease ... something like 6-2 ... Sarnia needs to roll with the exact same lineup as in Saginaw...Have gaudreau scratched.
