The likelihood of recouping picks with so many 98’s getting entry level NHL deals has been reduced greatly . As it stands the team might get next to nothing for all of its 98s .
The most likely way to re stock the cupboard now is to trade players like Ruzicka at the deadline if it’s clear cut the team has no chance .

I really don't think we will get much for Ruzicka. He's went completely MIA in the play-offs for us and was horrible at the WJC.

If he was Canadian you'd get quite a bit for him. But being an import will hurt his value for sure

I'm expecting a massive year from Leufvenius & Kamerrer. I think Reesor is going to be an absolute gem for us as well.

We had two exhibition games and Donnie Darkness has already come out. I get that you have a problem with him but OMG, give the kids a chance.

Problem with who? I'm stating facts. Let's hope he plays extremely well or else we have ZERO trade pieces

I believe that we have a few trade pieces to recoup picks. Salinitri, McGregor, Ruzicka, Franco, Josling, Hugo, Calvas, Grima, and Eliot.

Totally agree. The ZERO trade pieces statement is just ridiculous. I would love to see them re coup some high round picks because management seem to be making some very good picks particularly in the last couple of drafts. The 01 class looks like it will be the heart of the team in the next few years.

Agree, but trading any of them indicates bailing on this season totally (which may be the right strategy by late-December). I also agree with ...ImP that 21’s play plus his import status make him harder to trade than a North American draft pick.
The team will have 2 pretty good lines, in my opinion; after that, we will need a surprise or two from the supporting cast to get 3rd line production. History has shown that Hatcher will roll 4 lines, and right now I’m concerned about 4th line being able to keep opponents off the scoresheet.

Let me clarify myself however first I would like to say trading Hugo would be a massive mistake. He played exceptionally well for his first season in NA and played a massive role for us in the playoffs. Now for what I meant is really there's no trade pieces we have that will give us a big enough haul to be worth trading as well as many teams won't see maybe more than 2 of our players worth trading for (One's the team should consider trading) I really have no clue how many teams in the league will be in the need for a O/A especially one's that won't be key components to making a long run in the playoffs

I can see how ruzicka wold be hard to trade due to being an import player and being invisible in playoffs, but not playing well at the world juniors has nothing to do with it, half those games he’s playing against teams that are absolutely stacked and his country frankly is never very good in that tourny, and on top of that their are a tone of all star players in the CHL that don’t even selected to play in that tourny.

Imports rarely hang around for their OA season so if the team looks like it has no legitimate chance to win at the trade deadline (which is the likely scenario ) why wouldn't you trade Hugo ? He'd be right at near the top of my list to move if there is some interest in him. Same thing for any other older player that another team might have any interest in . Do you think somebody like McGregor or Salinitri would have no value ? The team isn't likely to start trading any of these pieces any time soon but if they are out of it by mid year you can bet that they will. they'd be foolish not to.

Sting Sign Calvin Martin: Sting Ink Free Agent Forward Calvin Martin – Sarnia Sting

Pretty sad this organization is signing Q rejects. Normally that's where junior players go when nobody else wants them. However I am very happy for him. I know he earned his spot on the team and hopefully this is the perfect fit for him.

I'm so confused with your post. You don't like that the team signed a kid that played in the QMJHL last year, but you are happy that he earned his spot on this team?

Why did he leave the OMJHL? Do you know? I don't. But I'm glad that the Sting invited him to camp and gave him a chance and I'm glad he is playing for the Sting this season.

I am happy he got a chance in camp which led to him signing with the team that is my personal feeling. On the business side of it the lack of depth is quite apparent within the Sting. Normally WHL/OHL rejects or players with outside hockey problems go to the Q to finish their career. He was released by SOO to make room for the signings they made for their deep play off run. Nobody else wanted him so he decided to go to the Q. Was released by Val-d'Or due to lack of production. They only signed him for the playoffs and now this season the Foreurs are rebuilding.

nice save with the backhanded compliment on Martin. i think he will be a good asset.. Not quite the same as the other free agent Martin but i am sure he will have a regular shift. As for Ruzika, you need to swap imports... to make that work. And while he did not score in the playoffs in the first round, it does not mean he did not have chances. Goaltending rose to the top unlike others. Unfortunately, when you have weak draft a few times, the cupboards are bare..

Martin played well for the Greyhounds but was stuck buried on a deep talented team. He will be good for you- and great in the dressing room.

I’m guessing he will provide 3rd line and penalty kill, based on the brief look I’ve had at him. 35-40 points would be nice, but a lot will depend on who he plays with

I'm ok with the Martin signing. The spot is available and there isn't much of a better option at this point. He brings good speed and some experience to the table. Sometimes a fresh start with a new club can turn into great things. I could see him being a 50 point guy this season.

He'll let in a minimum of 3 goals. We'll end up trading him for a pack of smokes and some McDonald's coupons

Watch him go to another team and light it up, he’s played some pretty impressive games in a sting jersey, so I think he has the skills to be a good tender, it’s all mental with that kid
