Hughes was everything a big goalie is supposed to be. Covered most of the net; stayed in position; didn’t overplay anything. Sting forecheck was awesome in first period. Saginaw dominated 2nd but were kept off the board; Perrault and Ruzicka snipes in the 3rd. Penalty kill awesome.
If they can keep up this pace, it will be a fun season

I streamed the game vs Saginaw. Very happy with what I saw. The sting fore check in the 1st was amazing. They came out flying and hitting everything that moved which threw SAG off their game. Perrault was great. He had at least 4 other prime scoring chances. The puck seemed to find him..what a shot on the kid. Rees was all over creating chances, Ruzicka had the puck on a string most of the game and Hughes played the way he should be playing. That's a huge game for him.

This team still ices 3 really solid lines in this league. I don't think there will be a shortage of goals. If we get solid goaltending then who knows. A lot of people have Sarnia finishing 8-10 spot. Play like they did Saturday night and they can surprise again this year. Great start.

Sarnia
Season has begun, so enough of the pre-season nay saying and negative punditry, which I tend to ignore. This team is better than many may think. Suspect spot is net, perhaps. Perhaps not. We'll see. Support these guys. Fill the seats. It's going to be an entertaining season.

So here's the situation. We have 4 OA's.

Salinitri - given a permanent "A" on his sweater
Franco - Rotating with a "A" on his (was odd man out season opener)
Eliot - Given a permanent "A"
Calvas - Rotating a "A" on his

Question is, who does Sinclair try and deal? A forward? defensemen? multiple players? Wait til OA deadline with all 4?

I’m not sure even Sinclair knows yet. My guess would be that Salinitri or Eliot would bring best returns, but they’re the most to give up. I started the preseason feeling that Calvas was the most expendable but frankly in Saturday’s game (I was there), Eliot had a terrible game and was perhaps worst D-man. He was clearly trying too hard - might be the “A” ?
Also, the team didn’t seem to miss Sproviero - which surprised me a bit. Hill was excellent on his line and McCombs was really solid both ways, and is poised to contribute this year. So maybe Franco wouldn’t be missed. It would create an uproar, trading a local player though.
So who knows? I’m guessing they will hang on to all 4 for now, with Calvas and Sproviero alternating as the guy in the suit.
But what do I know?

Hughes and langevin both look great knock on wood, team looks good severely outshoooting opponents, and being 3-0, good start ...I know they aren’t going to stay this good..but they are farrrrr better than what they are rated

With continued solid goaltending they can stay this good.I am sure he would have liked the first goal back but went on to make some key saves.SSM goalie saved their butts. Our D dont get the credit they deserve.Rees is a beast on the ice, physical game with soft hands and a real hockey sense.Hats off to Hugo and Mcgregor.Hard work won this game by ALL players.I also have to give 3 stars to our coaching staff. My only complaint is the continued passing the puck when they are in the hot spot to shoot.PK continues to look awesome but PP suffering. Great start and lets enjoy.

Agree pretty much totally. We were treated to two of the best-played games I’ve seen in a few years.
Have to disagree a bit with the extra pass comment. When a goalie is stoning you like Villalta was, you have 2 choices - shoot low & score on rebound ( goal 1 ), or pass around him ( goal 2).

For a low scoring game vs SSM that was pretty entertaining. Just some great back and fourth hockey. You know team defence did it's job when guys like Morgan Frost were practically invisible.

Langevin looks like he's been in this league for a few years already. Some great saves and his movement and positioning were on point. The first goal was just a pure snipe, not sure how many would have stopped that.

Rees was incredible. He was a beast vs SSM. Ruzicka looks to have a little extra pep in his step. The D has been as solid as you could ask for. The PK still perfect at 100%. My only concern is the PP. Sitting at 0% through 3 games...This is something that you don't want to have linger for too long. I'm sure it will be a highlight of practice this week.

3-0 to start...who saw that coming? This team has the work ethic to win a lot more games then they lose. Should be interesting. Great start!

Thank you for pointing out that Langevin did not have much of a chance to stop the 1st goal. That was a beauty of a shot.

I don’t know what to make of this. Do they package up an O/A and a younger guy for a key addition?

Jordan Kyrou will make his NHL debut tonight as the Blues host the Jets.

Tomorrow night ;)

Blues are my team. I’m stoked for Kyrou and Thomas as well as the return of Fabbri....some of my favourite OHLers. Should be a fun year.

I caught the highlights of the game tonight and I feel bad for Hughes for letting in that stinker at the end of the 1st. I think he’s a decent enough goalie who has had some confidence issues. He’s been playing really well this year, I just hope that goal didn’t shatter this newfound confidence he has in himself.

Just watched the “highlights” on the OHL website; goal 1 - stinker; goal 2 - real stinker; goal 3 - misplayed a bit, bought the fake and ended up covering the post; goal 5 - stinker.
Yikes.
Now the game sheet indicates 40 shots over the first two periods, so there must have been some good saves, but goals like those will cost him the starter spot if it continues. It’s about competition, and Langevin has been sharp in every outing this year.

I watched the game. OS was all over Sarnia all game. Sarnia seemed a step behind at all times and played pretty sluggish. Hughes started good but then let in 2 very soft goals. The 3rd OS Goal was CLEARLY offside but somehow they allowed it..i mean CLEARLY offside. Even the OS commentators were shocked. So you could look at it as 3 of the 5 OS goal should have never happened but in the end Sarnia had zero business winning a game like that. Out worked and out played from start to finish. Langevin came in to play the third and made a couple massive saves. I want to see him play at home for once. Hopefully this Saturday.

Rees didn't play. Apparently he got hurt last weekend...hopefully he's back this weekend.

Another tough two games with Guelph and Kitchener this weekend. Play like last night and the team will be back at .500 for sure. Shake it off.

Thx for the more complete picture.
Re Langevin, he was in vs SSM last weekend, so has started at home one time already
