What a frivolous waste of time.

Lewis Gross is a one-trick pony idiot of an agent. This made Sandin look bad unnecessarily and hasn't created any good faith for Gross and his negotiating approach.

With Willy's coming up, Gross didn't do him any favors here.

Now Sandin needs to get on with it and continue to prove himself.

good thing you know that Dubas won't be holding grudged against sandin.

though he might against his agent.
Well, he’s gone if they lose in the 1st round again. So, he may not have a chance to hold a grudge against him. Lol.

Leaked by whom?
Don't remember who specifically but it was one of the usual suspects, i.e., Friedman or Johnston

Serevalli tweeted a few hours ago that the Leafs said they wouldn't go above 1.4, so it does seem like they put their foot in the sand and wanted the identical deal structure. Glad to see Dubas playing hardball

Either the Agent or Dubas would have to have told the media.
If they did, I'm wondering what the motivation for doing that was?

To be fair, I think Dubas goes into negotiations with what he thinks is fair, starts off around there, and doesn't move.

I think we just disagree with what is fair and that's why some people think there is an overpayment.

I think the Gio situation is a good example, Dubas said "we can give you 1.1" and Gio brought it down.

I am sure some GMs come in crazy low.

You really can't figure out why the fans want the best team possible under these extreme cap constraints, and are puzzled why more people aren't cheering for millionaire's bank accounts instead?

Sandin’s 1.6 QO won’t even make a damn dent into our cap in two years. Look at the cap projections. And I say this every year the NHL blows when it comes to player movement. I love watching the games but it’s among the worst leagues to track.

And yes owners are assholes, they price gouge and take everything fans have in terms of money and support and they still want more. At least the players who are millionaires are risking everything by playing, they deserve the right to negotiate what’s fair.

The leafs also have the power to make players disappear or they can trade them. The leafs have spent to the cap since the start of the cap era. Money isn’t an issue for them.

CJ said over the summer Sandin was offered 1.4 over 2 over the summer.

Good way to look at it.

I don’t really understand this.

These numbers were offered in the summer. Sandin essentially said “no” and hoped for a whole bunch of injuries so he has more leverage. A whole bunch of injuries occur. Sandin just accepts the old summer offer.

I’m lost.

As many insiders have reported, it was never about money. It was about feeling respected. The moment Dubas signed Gio, the relationship was fractured. It shouldn’t be that hard to understand why he’s frustrated.

Leafs are telling him he needs to break in and become a regular, yet they keep signing vets that are going to take away his playing time.

I think he finally understood that if he seize this opportunity he will get his money eventually, if he let it slip no 200k this year or next matters. There were two defenders that were above him in the depth chart and they're out.

This situation here is like table catered for Sandin. He can snatch top4 spot for this season by playing well. Lost week of good practice, but cut the losses.

Good choice.

The thing is, those two defensemen ahead of him were injured before the start of training camp.

The tweet says that he called Dubas after the two injuries yesterday (Benn and Dahlstrom) which tells me he was worried they would beat him out.

He truly is a guy who wants absolutely no competition... which is really concerning.

...which is why Sandin signed today?

Sandin was not worried about Benn and Dahlstr. Come on.

… do you honestly believe that if there was no injuries he would have signed? No he wouldn’t have.

The relationship was fractured in the summer. Sandin was frustrated with the leafs. But he understands that this is his best opportunity to into the line up.

Which injuries? Didn't Muzzin just return from injury?

I think the Leafs are just as frustrated with Sandin.

If the relationship was that fractured, he would have been traded.
