Regarding the locker room presence and chemistry stuff, I think it has less to do with liking your teammates and more to do with respecting the job they do on the ice.

Eddie O says it all the time: recognize, accept, and execute your role. If you've got a lot of players willing to latch onto a cause, thats half the battle right there.

I think it has a lot less to do with if you're OK with grabbing a drink with the guy after the game.

Nobody is going to care about those first rounders in May of 2014 if the Rangers make it to the CF for the second time in three years.

Just remember there is a reason why Yzerman wanted them. And then lets compare tampa in five years and the Rangers in 5 years.

You say this but just because they are a first round draft pick doesn't mean that they will be automatic all stars, superstars, or anything like that.

For every great player there are the Alex Daigle, Hugh Jessiman, AJ Thelan, and Nikita Filatov's of the draft

And those are all top 15 picks. The earliest pick the Rangers could give up this season is 26th.

Very true. But there's nothing that says they have to use those picks. They can use those picks in any number of ways. Nice flexibility to have.

That is true but it is not the end of the world giving the picks away. Do I wish they had kept some of the picks yes I do.

But it isn't the end of the world... and lets face it if the Rangers get to the conference finals, win the cup, go back to the conference finals everyone around here will be like Draft picks? which did we give up again?

Riku Helenius, Neil Brady, Daniel Tkaczuk...

Or Pavel Brendl for the Flyers, who was picked with the Rangers 1st rounder acquired in the Lindros-trade

It is when they've been burning picks between the Clowe, Nash and St. Louis trades.

I think short of a Cup victory, people will certainly be concerned about lost draft picks.

At this point those picks are complete unknowns. It sucks losing them sure, but we got back an exceptional talent. The Rangers have some prospects who are close to NHL ready, enough at least to compliment the solid young core we have now who for the most part are signed for multiple years. We could always use more prospects but given our inability to produce any high end offensive threats of our own we need to use them wisely in trades. Nash and MSL are both good acquisitions. If it were another two guys who knows, maybe we regret it quicker, let's say back when Heatley was available for instance...

I'm not a fan of a lot of things Sather does, but giving up what hopefully turns out to be two late firsts ranks much lower than some of his previous moves. The trade that killed us was Clowe, would have been nice to have those picks. But hindsight is 20/20 and who would have thought he'd get 12 concussions in a month.

I truly believe MSL has at four solid years in him. If he contributes 80 points next season and signs a cost controlled contract and contributes another 60 the following two seasons this trade is very good IMO.

Don't worry either because our savior is coming in Anthony Duclair :P

And I think that type of all or nothing thinking is wrong. The Rangers chances at winning the Cup is increased greatly with St. Louis. We can (and have) argue about what those chances are.

But I equate that type of black-and-white thinking to driving home when you're just plastered. If you make it home safely, does that make it a good decision?

Yeah, they better win a Cup, because our already below average prospect pool is going to take an even further step down in the very near future...

It is a unhappy medium that people seem to hit on this board half of the people are mad that Hank isn't getting support to win the cup cause his window is closing, align with Nashs. The other half is mad that the picks are being traded away. The result is I believe that Gordie and Clark have a plan that they are executing, If Duclair, Tambellini, and Buchnevich are all make strides that they didn't know that they would be making then the team may feel more comfortable trading some of those picks
