Loved the fact that MSG mentioned Sam being honored for being the voice of the Rangers for 30 years. Got any Sam Rosen memories that are NOT the 1994 cup winning call?

For me, I once got lucky enough to take a trip to the booth to meet him and JD. Couldn't have been nicer. Just a kind, quirky guy - like that weird uncle everyone likes to joke around with. We are lucky to have a quality announcer doing our games, even if it's only for a few more years.

:handclap:

I love Sam Rosen. Such a professional and courteous/respectful guy. I've been watching the Rangers since '92 and Sam feels like an old, familiar friend.

:handclap:

One of the best hockey announcers in the game. He and Jim Hughson exhibit excellence and are much better than Doc (Devils homer) Emerick.

"It's a powerplay goal!"

"Save by Richter, another save by Richter, another save by Richter, and he made another one! Five saves for Mike Richter!"

It sounds corny, but Sam (and JD, until he left) have been a part of my household my whole life. A constant presence. I know Sam's slowing down a bit, and some people have been critical of his commentating at times, but it will be a very sad day when he decides to retire.

It's kind of like how people felt so connected to their news anchors, like Cronkite or Peter Jennings...it's just someone who's in your living room every day for years on end, you can't help but feel a special connection even though you don't actually know them.

Sam is great, you can tell he's a Rangers fan but he doesn't call games like a homer like so many other broadcasters.

Sam Rosen is as much a Ranger to me as Leetch, Richter, Messier, Graves and Giacomin (to name a few). I've been following the Rangers since the early 90's (I think it was 1991 I first listened to the radio for the Rangers).

There was an audio broadcast of Sam Rosen and another guy (not sure who the other one was) but Rosen is the guy who has told me everything I learned about the Rangers since age 7.

Sam Rosen might not be the best announcer, but to me he is the most memorable one. Listen to me, I am talking about him like he already retired haha.

I will never forget the time when Sam said "Did Redden just fall or did the blue line monster grab him?"

As a kid I grew up listening to The Big Whistle Bill Chadwick and Jim Gordon. They were what I got used to and loved them. When Sam and then JD came in it took me a while to warm up to them but Sam is awesome and when he leaves eventually he will be missed.

He seems like such a genuinely nice guy. His play-calling abilities have clearly declined over the years but he's forever a staple in Rangers' history.

I've never been to a player jersey retirement ceremony for the Ranges and never had too much urge to be at one but if/when Sam retires I would love to be at the Garden if they were honoring him during a ceremony.....

:yo:

Sam is great, we've been spoiled having him doing PbyP for so many years.

That being said, he does have a face for radio ;)

As much as I love Rosen, I sincerely wish he would use adjectives other than "good" once in a while.

Met Sam Rosen before the first 2012 home game. I was coming out of Penn Station and saw him coming up, took walk up to the Gates with him. really super awesome guy and enjoys talking about hockey. Couldn't ask for another PBP.

Btw - As much as I like Sam, Chadwick and Gordon will always be "the voices of the Rangers" to me.

To me it's Marv. Turn off the sound and turn on the radio. They now deliberately delay one or the other to discourage this.

Marv doesn't do radio for the Rangers, it's Kenny, and they sound somewhat alike but Kenny is no Marv. You're right though, Marv is THE radio voice of the Rangers....

I feel old now....

Love Sam but for me Jim Gordon was the man along with the big whistle Bill Chadwick..Chadwick had several legendary moments, one was when he talked to his wife during the game..Rangers playing the Kings and it goes to OT..He yells out, dont worry Martha,I'll bring home the Rye bread but im gonna be a little late..His main tagline line was, hoop around a barrell..Vadnais went around him like a hoop around a barrell..Jim Gordon was just a straight up play by play guy...Loved the fights...Rangers have been blessed with great announcers..I would give my left arm for JD back with Sam.
