Kadri is okay, but he’s on the last year of his deal and I think the Avs are looking for more long term help down the middle.

Not to the Sabres. A forward with size and speed was very much a need for them. I think Girard is being underrated but the team already has more young LHD than they can even fit.

Wtf lol? Why lie like that? The best hockey he has ever played was in a top pairing role with Toews last year. He’s historically struggled with bigger defenseman aside from EJ. He struggled horribly with Zadorov and Graves. He played more minutes with Ryan Graves in last years playoffs than any other player and it was far and away the worst hockey he’s ever played in his career.

Girard thrives with other defenseman who transition the puck well. Barrie, Toews, Makar and Byram have been the partners he’s succeeded with. Not Graves/Zadorov/Nemeth. That’s a very strange take.

Also why in the hell would you want to limit Girard’s zone starts lol. He’s a transition guru. It’s the most elite part of his game. Retrieving pucks in his own zone and transitioning it forward is his game. He’s one of the best in the game at it.

I think we are watching 2 different players, homie. Girard was alright with Toews but has not been good at all with Makar and Byram.

Probably legit NHLer.

We need a 2C, Kadri has been great this year but we won't re-sign him this summer so that's your gaping hole going forward.


Getting a 2C now would allow Kadri to slot down at the 3C spot and actually make Center depth a real strength for this team for the first time in years.


Now, whether we use Girard to get that 2C, or use Newhook+ remains to be seen.


The Avs also need a long term bona-fide Goalie solution as well. Since both of our goalies right now are UFAs at seasons end, Francouz has far too many health concerns at this point, and Kuemper at least so far hasn't quite been consistent enough to be worth signing.


So IMO either a quality starter or a 2C is what we should be looking at in a Girard trade.

He still is a phenomenal, Top ~30 Dman in the league. Would be the #1 on a number of teams tbh.

It just so happens that the Avs are one of the only teams in the league with too many top end Dmen(Particularly on the Left Side) and not enough minutes for all of them.


For my money Girard is still our best LD, one bad series against Vegas(Where he still wasn't even close to the worst D on the team or even his pairing for that matter) isn't changing that yet.


But, Byram is proving early on that he's going to be legit and could very, very soon pass Girard on the depth chart.


So it comes down to one of Girard or Toews likely needing to be traded to fill needs elsewhere. And I think the Avs look at Girard with his 5+ years still on his contract... He's the most valuable trade chip of the two and the needs we have(Quality 2nd line Center and Starting goalie) are expensive needs to fill. Hence Girard is possibly available.

Makes too much sense. The Avs beat Vegas last year if they scratched Girard in game 7. With Makar, Byram and Toews... Girard is redundant and a liability. They don't need his secondary offense and suspect D-Zone play. They'd be better off flipping him for forward depth or a cheaper, more defensive-minded D.

Who would you ideally want as 2C if you were GM?
