If the asset is Engvall, sure. If it's Dermott and Kerfoot, I'd rather get a proper two-way penalty killing 3rd line centre.

I read the one link. I can't read the Athletic one. It's for guys from outside of Canada.

Examples were Dubois (coming from Columbus to Winnipeg), Grosenick (claimed off waivers from Nashville) or the start of training camp when guys are coming in from all over the place.

Bennett would be coming from a Canadian team who has the same set of travel regulations as the Leafs and we even play against the guy without masks in close proximity. He would be travelling within Canada, which NHL teams are doing without any kind of restrictions.

They were concerned about the Trade Deadline on April 12th because the Canadian teams may make trades with American teams and don't want to see guys have to quarantine for 2 weeks before they can actually use or practice with them, which is what is happening with Dubois and Laine right now.

I would rather keep Anderson, and cap won't work very well.

Engvall and Bennett at 50% have practically the same cap hit. That is why it can work. Even Barabanov only has 300k less. Anderson only makes 750k for 3 years and plays the style of game the Leafs will want in their bottom 6. He is eligible for expansion, but Seattle won't take him (and if they do, then they'd be doing us a favour).

You're crazy if you wouldn't wanna trade Joey Freaking Anderson for Bennett. Now you're just criminally undervaluing him. I can understand getting mad at Kerfoot/Dermott proposals but this makes no sense.

Also, any Sam Bennett deal to the leafs will have to @ 50% Retained. So we can do it if we offer up enough contracts.

Sam Bennett is bad.

He has been gifted massive massive opportunities due to his draft position that he has never, ever earned.

Joey Anderson ++ is more than Joey Anderson. Joey Anderson is cost controlled at 750k for 3 more years. Bennett is effectively a rental, because we aren't going to qualify him for almost 3 mill to bring what he does.

It's really not that crazy.

Anderson can be a lot better than people think. He is often compared to Blake Coleman, and he plays a lot like Blake Coleman. I am not as confident about Bennett becoming another Blake Coleman, and we probably can't afford to pay him to find out either.

can't believe that we ended up getting one of the top players in that 2014 draft with willy. MDC, bennett, virtanen, ritchie, perlini, fiala, all busting in the picks right around him. that 2014 first round is something else.

Umm Fiala didn't bust, but yes I'm damn happy we have Nylander instead of any of the alternatives.

I think this is a case where yes he's been pretty bad with Calgary besides in the playoffs, but that organization has developed him awfully. You trade for him hoping he can thrive with a change of scenery. I just think he can me much better more consistently than what he's shown in Calgary.

So you trade a couple players who you know for a player that maybe may live up to his expectations but has yet to even come close it? Hard pass.

If those numbers show Bennett is bad, what do they show for Kerfoot, Engvall and Anderson ? At least Bennett comes with an edge. I would not trade Kerfoot for Bennett @ 50% but I'd gladly risk trading one or both of the other two.
