Hard to ignore his production in the playoffs over the past two seasons. He produced more in those 15 games than he did all season.I don't get the hype surrounding this guy. He's a bottom six forward and not an elite one at that. Yeah, he was a high pick and he can be rough/gritty/tenacious now and then, but so what? To me he's a slight upgrade at best over Kerfoot (whom I'm not a fan of). If they can get him for a trade similar to Kerfoot + a decent prospect or a third rounder, I'd be okay with that. But I wouldn't give up more.
Couldn't agree more. I really think he has been mishandled in CGY. Not sure he has top 6 upside, and certainly not down the middle on our team. But I wouldn't hesitate to give him minutes on the Left wing with JT and willy. This club has been historically easy to play against, especially when the hockey gets tougher in the playoffs. This player still has a lot of upside in my mind, and at worst case scenario he is still an everyday NHL forward. On any team. Buy low, dream highI actually think Zach Hyman might be a decent starting point for what Bennett could be utilized as, and this is based on his wrecking ball playoff performances. Hyman didn't make the NHL full time till he was 24. His offense was also non existent at Bennett-ish levels until his second year and then started improving (while playing significant time on the top line).
Bennett is 24. Big drop off from his draft projections from 2014, but we don't know exactly how Calgary mishandled him over the years. If he can get him cheap like you say and let him play that rambunctious style on a lower line, I see that as a win. We wouldn't be investing a 4th overall pick on him.
How many chin ups can he do now?
I don't think he has to quarantine since he is already in Canada.
Roslovic was able to play for Columbus right away (or I think he missed one game because he needed to get up to speed first) because he stayed in the US.
It's naive to pencil Bennett in the top 6 when he hasn't shown the ability in a 5-year career so far. At best he could be slotted in on the third line with occasional fourth line time until he can prove himself a bit more.
His style of play would slide nicely along Matthews or Tavares though so there's opportunity if he plays well.
He provides more jam and physicality than Vesey which would be a nice add. But I don't see how the Leafs make it fit personally with cap and which players go back.
Have to imagine a lesser team with a hole in their top 6 will give a mid-round pick and give him a shot.
Sam Bennett modeled his game after Dougie Gilmour and scouts used that comparable as well when he was an Ohler.
Kingston Frontenacs’ Sam Bennett modern day Doug Gilmour
Sam Bennett, who wears No. 93 for Doug Gilmour’s Kingston Frontenacs, freely admits that his knowledge of his general manager’s Hall of Fame career comes mostly through scattered videos and word of mouth. Last week, NHL central scouting released its mid-term rankings, in which Bennett was projected as the No. 1 selection in the NHL’s June draft. Hockey insiders have been using the occasion to describe Bennett as a modern-day version of the player they called Killer.
Bennett was all of seven months old when Gilmour was traded from Leafland to New Jersey in the bleak winter of 1997. Still, long before Gilmour selected Bennett with the ninth overall pick in the OHL draft a couple of years back, Gilmour’s vast legend had made a pronounced impact on Bennett’s young life.
“My dad’s a Leafs fan, and he was always giving me advice on how to play,” Bennett was saying this week. “His favourite player being Dougie Gilmour, he wanted me to play like Dougie, I guess.” “Play like Dougie.”
Todd Gill, the ex-Leaf who coaches the Frontenacs, doesn’t hesitate to invoke the comparison. “He’s got the Dougie Gilmour attitude in the sense that he can beat you in a lot of different ways — kill penalties, play on your powerplay. He makes the ship float,” Gill said.

HahahahahaI would way 3 C-hin ups...maybe 4 C-hin ups...![]()
Honestly, I'm confident nobody is actually comparing Sam Bennett to Dougie. The fact that he understands the magnitude of what Dougie brought to this franchise is big in my mind. There is no doubt in my mind Sam Bennett would play his heart out like Dougie did, just might be a couple pts shy of Dougie's 127pt campain. Point is, you can see how much wearing the Maple Leaf means to a guy like Wayne Simmonds, who grew up wanting to be a Leaf, and its shows in every shift Wayne takes in my mind. I imagine the same would be for Sam BennettWith all due respect, Bennett will never live up to Gilmour's ability (let alone his legacy). Gilmour was on the 87 Canada Cup Team as well as a Hall of Fame inductee. I have no problem saying that he models himself after/influenced by, but to compare him is just wild. There is no way Bennett comes even close to that ability.
Roslovich is in the US, Stutzle had to quarantine coming back from Edmonton to Ottawa, there was also a couple of others. Maybe the protocol changed, but not that I'm aware of.
That was a different scenario. We just came back from Edmonton and you don't see any of our players having to quarantine. We have another game in 4 days.

Bennett has a lot of flaws but he's not particularly slow and he plays with an edge, I wouldn't say he's weak at allBennett is a slow weak winger. No thanks.
That’s different than a trade with a different team.
A team which is in Canada and having to follow the exact same rules and guidelines as our team. Last time I checked, you don't need to quarantine in Ontario (or really anywhere except the Maritimes) if you are travelling from another place in Canada. It's only when you come from outside of Canada.
