Now that Toronto has signed Marleau for 6.2m I could see them looking to part ways with some other contracts like Bozak or JVR. Something could happen around that, dunno what the Pens could give up to get Bozie though, especially if the Leafs are looking to push in the playoffs.

Vegas has a glut of centers. Eakin, Karlsson and Lindberg are all potential targets. I'd include Haula, but Vegas has expressed a desire to keep him. As far as value, Vegas just traded defenseman Alexei Emelin to Nashville for a 2019 3rd round pick. It traded Marc Methot to Dallas for a 2020 2nd round pick and a goalie the Stars picked up in the 7th round of this year's draft.

So yeah, I'm pretty confident a guy like Eakin can be had for one of the Pens' excess wingers and a draft pick.

As for Bonino comparisons, Eakin is younger, $225k a year cheaper and signed for one less year.

I don't think it was the $4.1 million that bothered Rutherford so much as the extra year.

I think you're absolutely right. From listening to the bonino interview on NHL network he said right off the bat,up until the end (which I assume means Friday or even Saturday morning) he was holding out hope to return to Pittsburgh. But the term was a real sticking point and when he realized they weren't gonna budge on term,he shifted focus to the 3 teams that were really pushing.

Interesting to me he elaborated on the term aspect. So I'm assuming Jr was willing to come close in $$, just not on length. Alot of trying to connect the dots but if that's the case, I'm sure he's shifted focus heavily to aquiring one just recently. So let's give the man some time b4 panicking. I know he's earned my trust.

Leafs are over the cap and need to sign Brown and Hyman still. I wonder if there is a way to get Bozak without giving up a ton.

Pouliot and the 2nd in 2019 for Bozak? Bozie and Kessel have chemistry and Bozak can produce more than bones and is underrated defensively.

So if Im reading this right, we have $11 million for two forwards and a D. I have a tough time seeing Dumo, Sheary, and a 3C all fitting in there. Possible, but tough. I guess I thought the cap wouldnt be as much of an issue with MAF and Kunitz coming off the boards, but damn that money got eaten up quick.

Who knows where - NYR?

The Rangers have 8.35m left with 9 forwards signed. Zibanejad's numbers suggest he'll get a decent chunk of that.

I guess they could do it with full cap retention - hell, a lot of teams could - but even then he's a luxury 3/4C. Who's giving up major shizzle for that at 1.5m?

Maybe we send them Rowney with Pouliot and a 2nd for Bozak so the leafs get a solid 4c and a d prospect and 2nd. Then you re-sign Cullen and you're set. The only hope then is to convince Sheary to take a 1yr cheap deal as a prove it contract and get Dumo signed long term.

JR can do this.

Guentzel, Crosby, Sheary
Hagelin, Malkin, Hornqvist
Rust, Bozak, Kessel
Wilson, Cullen, Reaves

Maatta, Letang
Dumoulin, Schultz
Cole, Hunwick

So Toronto is betting on getting a cup before their three young starlets break their cap. Seems the right play, especially with the Atlantic being very mediocre. Marleau still has some juice in him anyway, and I could see him being like Jagr in that respect. It is quite the cap hit though.

Oh yeah... the Caps remain the gift that keeps on giving  better hope that awful D does a Pens 2017 act.

edit: after checking their cap situation, Orpik has to be gone right??? I mean... teams are getting out of bad contracts all the time... this too good to be true

Why would the Penguins want Kruger? Even at 50% retained, he still makes over $1.5 million per season and he's nothing more than a 4th liner.

Thats not a bad contract for Kuzy imo. 7.8 for a 60-70 point player who has all the skill in the world is very reasonable and at 8 years, the cap will go up and it will look like a steal.
