Losing Gustavsson sucked though. He looks to be an elite goalie in the making. Would've been a nice ELC to have. Instead, now you have to overpay Murray, instead of just trading him and going with Gustavsson.

In RS games Brassard has 9 points in 19 games since becoming a Penguin. Seems solid enough for me.

What young players did we jettison? We traded Cole and a 4th. You’re also ignoring that we received a 3rd back.

We lost a frivolous goaltender, an older defenseman in Cole and turned a 4th into a 3rd.

The only real thing of value was the 22nd overall for two years of a legit center. With massive retention.
And thus far Brass has been underwhelming. And again you're trivializing giving up that goalie. It's still a good asset and one that could have paid dividends down the road. Particularly if we lose a Jarry to Seattle. It's bad asset management to get rid of such young talent as if they are throw ins. You're also forgetting that we're losing a 3rd this season to OTT.

Was still worth it. Only thing I'd change is NOT trading Cole. He would've anchored that 3rd pair. We couldn't even send out the third pairing in the playoffs because of how bad they were.

Should've gave up another late pick or Sheary.

But the trade was overall still worth it for a 2C to come here and be our 3C. Just unlucky that he got hurt.

Whatever, Brassard rules and you’re a doo doo head.

I agree with you about Cole 100%. That was the part of the deal I had a real problem with considering we were a win now team and didn't make any effort in replacing him.

Teams expecting the Pens to unload at the deadline to rebuild? :sarcasm:

Any scouts would be there for the Leafs, not us...three of those teams are in the Metro and no question CAR and TOR have had some past discussions about Faulk...I wish JR was trying to get Faulk

Probably looking at players playing well so Leafs players

The one player the Leafs MIGHT be willing to move for defense isn't playing for them right now. Aside from that, I'm not sure they're looking to do anything.

We have the Devils and Isles coming up end of month. Toronto has neither until the Devils on 11/9.

The Rangers and Bolts are interesting, because neither plays either Pittsburgh or Toronto for the next 2+ months.

Seems unlikely we'd make a trade with a Metro team. And TB-Pit are similarly weird trading partners given both are contenders.

Doubt all these scouts have much to do with us.

I'm not sure what they'd have to do with Toronto.

Tampa certainly won't trade with them.

And, as for the Rangers, I think they'd trade with anyone.

It's just weird is all . . . Toronto isn't looking to do anything except maybe entertain on Nylander, who's holding out.

And, it's not like the scouts from Tampa and NYR are there to advance scout.

THAT said, it may be that they're going somewhere else tomorrow and this was a game they wanted to catch just to catch. You know teams sometimes do that, where especially early in the year there's nobody to scout so they just go to a game.

Then again, THAT said, 2 scouts each . . .

Probably looking at Toronto. They need to do something about Nylander and maybe it's a multi player deal. Doesn't Carolina still have a spare defenseman from their shakeup this summer? Nylander and a 3rd Pairing D for Faulk and a middle 6 F? Or maybe TOR is looking to move some salary to pay Nylander.

Oh yeah he hasn’t signed yet. They should really trade him. They are probably not going to get close to terms. Matthews is upping his money per game it seems for next year.

Everyone keeps forgetting we lost Reaves in the Brassard trade.

"Lost."

So, it was three players and three picks (18 1st and 4th, 19 3rd).

You can't only look at what Ottawa got when it took more pieces to get VGK involved in taking on salary.

That's six potential roster players for him. That's borderline too much. It's certainly not a homerun for the Pens.

Are people still using the "he needs more time" excuse to defend the guy?

Kessel came from playing with Tyler Bozak. I can't see why he'd be too upset with Brassard as his center.

Brassard came from the most defensive system in the league to the least defensive system in the league. And we wonder why there's might have been a bit of an adjustment period for him. But no, I was referencing the entire f***ing team. Tonight aside, in the majority of the games we've played, the team has played like crap. Which means you're either making judgements on a single player when pretty much everyone sucked, or you're making judgement's using a stupidly small sample size. Either way you're setting yourself up for failure simply because you do not have enough data points to make an accurate assessment.

As for Kessel, sure he was playing with Bozak in Toronto. But he was still playing on L1, where the entire team's offense ran through him. Every OZ shift he wanted, he was out there. Every PP, etc. He was "THE GUY". He's not here, and everyone is better for it... but that doesn't mean he doesn't still want those opportunities that comes with being "the guy", because by his comments last season, it's clear he does.
