The thing is, in order for that threat to carry any weight, there'd have to be a team out west willing to take Robby.

It's my understanding that the two teams who WOULD take him, one was willing to, only because a) they don't care about this year b) thought he might be a veteran presence for all of their youth c) the Pens would pay some (probably small) price. The other team, it's my understanding (and maybe I'm wrong), was doing this out of a twisted sort of NHL honor code. If you find that confusing, I'm sure you can figure it out with enough thought.

Buffalo and Toronto, perhaps New Jersey, respectively.

Maybe this is the issue. Perron isn't a third wheel in my mind.

Given Perron-Malkin-Hornqvist, Hornqvist is the complementary player that isn't creative and whose greatest skill requires other players to generate shots.

Perron also happens to be the best LW on the team playing on the third line RW.

To expand:

-Crosby-Kessel
Perron-Malkin-
-Bonino-Bennett

gives the top 9 two playmakers on each line which I think is important.

Agreed. Yet here we are.

Second thing, I kind of figured.

I bring up Colorado because he'd actually be an upgrade on Nate Guenin. Outside of, like, Rinaldo, Guenin might be the sport's worst player. As D go, to me, it's a two horse race between him and Mike Weber.

Scuds is more in a class with your Grossmans or Luke Schenns. They all suck, but at least they aren't Guenin.

his contract is the issue. I think the most-likely scenario now is that he stays with the Pens this year and then gets bought out next off-season when the penalties aren't so bad

The one about the team not caring about this year and having young D in the East has to be New Jersey. They are really the only team that fits that. Do Buffalo and Toronto have that many young D? I know they have Ristolainen and Rielly respectively, but I didn't think they had that many.

My guess would be Toronto and New Jersey, with Toronto having the honor code due to something with Kessel. I don't think Carolina is going to have any of Hanifin or Fleury on D for them in the NHL this year. Though that would be funny, if Shero offered to take on Scuderi because he felt bad for forcing the Pens to be stuck with them

Moving Perron seems so stupid to me, unless they think he won't resign here. It's more likely that they don't want to resign him so moving him for a Top 4 D is their best move. No idea what D man JR covets though.

I am not even sure that I can think of a single deal that makes sense at this point or that I foresee making sense unless injuries happen. Plus after the Lovejoy trade, I am slightly concerned about what the team considers a top 4 defenseman.

"Just go ahead and watch Beau Bennett during his shifts. I won't post my position on the player, I want an uninfluenced evaluation from all of my followers. Just watch him."

Man. Just when I think I'm over his stupidity, you post this ****.

I don't understand the purpose of Clayton Stoner, but I'd rather ice a D with six of him than one of Guenin or Weber.

Someone on the trade board mentioned a Perron for Ryan Ellis swap which would be interesting though I would rather pry Roman Josi if somehow magically possible

I'd actually be okay with this if we keep Sprong up and play Bennett in the top-6. Cole-Ellis is a pretty strong 2nd pair actually.

Yeah, you're looking at like Sprong, Perron, and a 1st for Josi. Dude's value is sky high after last post-season.

Having watched Bruce B's extensive and at times surreal use of Stoner in key offensive situations in last year's post season, I'd have to think he would agree with you.

When Shero was hired in NJ, I saw that as a way to get rid of Scuds. Surprised he wouldn't want to go there, it's close to home for him isn't it?

Why are the Preds trading Ellis for a pending UFA winger?

EDIT: It also looks like Buffalo is experiencing some injury problems on D. Based on their ability to pick up waivers, I hope the Pens have no plans to waive NHL ready D.
