MJ is like Charlie visiting the Chocolate Factory, he's "just lucky to be here". And I don't think we will have the happy ending that ole Charlie had.

He is a classic example of a weak leader. He tries to befriend vets who he hopes will provide him cover. What it creates is an asylum run amok. Vet players who have not earned their way are catered to and young players are publicly made scapegoats.

One word comes to mind when I think of the MJ hire... VOMIT

Such a damn shame to, the roster only needs a few minor adjustments which can be easily had, and this team could compete for a cup. But they will never do so under MJ. no way no how.

Good stuff IC. Any insight into why Perron is seemingly getting the shaft?

Also, good on JR for standing strong with Sprong. I know we want to give young guys a chance, but we have plenty of NHL quality depth this year and he's the only talented legit F prospect we have. We actually have the luxury to let him develop properly. Sure give the kid his 9 games, but then send him back. Let him earn the spot next year.

ever get the sense that this organization forms an opinion on someone and it doesn't matter what happens from that point forward, that opinion will never change?

Oh for sure. I was just trying to figure out if what I think the team thinks about Perron is close to what the team actually thinks about Perron.

If Perron is going to be moved for D help, does that mean Bennett's spot is safe or will they trade him also during the season also?

I would assume Bennett would stick around if they move Perron. His cap hit is low and his trade value is equally low. Stranger things have happened though.

So Scuds can block the entire West and at least 2 teams in the East with his NTC? I'm guessing Ray didn't mention this in his job interview.

Nice to see IC back around these parts.

If we have a new GM/Coach and that stubborn mindset on players persists, I have to assume it's coming for a combination of from Moorehouse/Guerin/Botterill

It's depressing as **** that this organization seems to despise Perron, won't give him a shot at redemption, and seems hellbent on wasting/trading him.

Just because we have Kessel and Hornqvist does not mean, at all, that the top-6 is fixed once and for all. We are in dire need of LWers (**** off if you mention Kunitz), and we have one sitting in our lap. A 27-year old who is supremely skilled, hustles his ass off, isn't afraid of the tough areas of the ice, and is in his contract year. How in the **** do you manage to screw up utilizing him so badly?

If you want to get that coveted top-4 d-man, put something around Kunitz and a 1st together. Land a long-term option, but don't make the team weaker now and in the future by doing so.

Pretty ****ing simple, really. But it's the Penguins, and they're gonna do things ass backwards because they're stupid, stubborn and arrogant as ****.

No, but the number of teams actually interested in or willing to take his corpse are limited

Did you ever hear if he also has a no movement clause? Does the team have the option to send him to W-B/S?

So he's just blocking EC teams and taking it on faith that we won't trade him West?

**** him, then. Feed the guy some rocky mountain fresh air, I say. Scuds is bad, but he ain't Guenin bad.

****ing roll him up in a carpet and dump him on the doorstep of whatever team is willing to take him. I don't give a **** about the return, and never have. Just lose the loser.

Same with Kunitz, but I'm sure someone out there would be willing to take a chance on him. The return wouldn't be great, but it's addition by subtraction.

Anyone have the details of Scuderi's limited NMC?

Limited No TRADE Clause, limited to 8 teams he can decline to. He can be shipped to WBS.

Before even getting in to the real lines, how do you not TRY Perron with the top 6 guys on the LW. I think Kunitz COULD do OK on the LW in the top 6, but in what world is Perron not the most obvious top 6 LW guy to TRY?

PRE - season. Jebus fuggin Cripes people! RELAX! He's not going anywhere. He will get his Top 6 time. Pre-season is for trying things.

Another issue Scuds poses us, beyond his awful play, is potentially causing us to lose one of Clendening or Erixon on waivers. I have not seen Erixon play this preseason, but for me right now, our 7 best look to be:

Maatta Letang
Cole Lovejoy
Dumoulin Clendening
Oleksy (or Erixon) or both

With a somewhat obvious issue of playing Lovejoy above his pay grade. With the rust Maatta has, I'd rather see Cole anchoring his pairing than Maatta trying to. Though I would be interested to see what Dumo/Letang and Maatta/Cole can do.

Yeah, they've really been going nuts, playing Kunitz-Crosby-Kessel and Plotnikov-Malkin-Hornqvist together every time those players are dressed.

Johnston's nickname should be The Mad Scientist he experiments so much.

Any reason for the faith that Perron will get to play in the top 6?

We have only seen & heard about two serious contenders for the top 6 LW - Kunitz & Plotnikov. Perron, Dupuis, & Bennett were talked up as possibilities but none have played with Crosby or Malkin. Perron has practiced almost exclusively as a RW. Johnston has repeatedly called Perron a RW who can switch if necessary.

What things has Johnston tried in the preseason?

EDIT: The only promising thing so far is Kunitz is playing in the Johnstown game tomorrow without Crosby. Unless Kunitz plays back-to-back, the LW will be different. The only question is will it be a serious candidate - Dupuis, Bennett, Perron - or will Johnston opt to try a fringe player that likely isn't a serious candidate (ex Sheary with Malkin).
