The on ice stats of Power/Byram among our 3 d-pairs.

Worst xGA/60
Worst actual GA/60
Worst xGF/60

Their actual GF/60 (4.27) is the best and the only reason some posters mistakenly believe they're any good. It’s also wildly outperformed their xGF/60 (1.87) and isn’t sustainable.

They don’t even get tough deployments OZS% 60%.

Byram just does not fit with how they want to use him. Yuck.

He never made sense as a trade target. He’s who you’d target if you didn’t have a Power on the roster not someone to pair with him.
Absolutely, you have Dahlin and Power, you want to use them in different pairings in the top 4, find them suitable partners who will cover them in defense. Why do we need Byram? It never made sense. Ruff doesn't even seem to like Power playing RD because he likes a balanced defense and players in their positions.

Thats another sadly comical element to this. Granato didn’t care that much about handedness, Ruff quite obviously does.

Did they sit around watching the Finals series that he was so good in and just twine their fingers, Mr. Burns style, thinking no one else was as smart as they were for wanting him? If he wasn't concussed or taking time away from the game he was mostly meh. I don't understand it, still don't understand it.

It's why I don't fully blame Adams for this team. He's doing the best he can when you consider majority of players don't want to play here.
And the owner won’t let him hire a single friggin assistant coach for his new head coach. Pathetic. That right there tells you it isn’t a serious team and that you can set your clock to the certainty of them being a failure, coming up short every spring.

There is no proof Pegula is preventing Adams/Ruff from hiring new assistants.

This screams Adams wanting his guys to remain.

Of the limited minutes of watching this game, they feel like the absolute same team to me as years past. Feels like the Same chances of them pulling off something fun vs pulling off a multitude of mistakes leading to high danger chances or goals.

Adams has himself to blame for that. He's been the longest tenured GM of the drought and has more responsibility for the current situation than anyone else, aside of course from Pegula.

The choices that Adams made 3, 4, 5 years ago are bearing fruit now. They obviously weren't good choices.

The guy has been stepping on rakes since day one. Every direction he turns, BOOM, steps on a rake. Players see that and want nothing to do with us.

When he took over the drought had just turned 9 years old. Seems quaint that it was once that young. We were in a similar boat then to where Detroit and Ottawa are now, and they don't have the same trouble getting players to play for them. If their GMs continue to make wrong move, after wrong move for the next 5 years, more and more players will not want to go there.

Even our shiny new checking line barely sees the ice because I assume Ruff is sick and tired of them racking up the penalties when they do.

How many more wins do we have this year rolling Greenway-Mitts-Zucker as our 3rd line instead of Greenway-McLeod-Zucker.
Benson/quinn-Mitts-Cozens would be a better 2nd line than anything we've attempted this season.

Greenway-McLeod-Zucker would still be our 3rd line.

And without Byram on the Roster, Adams wouldn't have been able to pretend that there isn't a giant "top 4 (preferably right handed) defensive specialist" shaped hole in the roster.

We need a strong vet partner for Power.

Kevyn: Best I can do is a failing bust kid struggling for playing time on a good team because he sucks.
Dumbest trade ever in terms of team building.
Substract a veteran, add another inexperienced wrong handed puck handling D who isnt a RD.

What he should have done:
Keep the vet 2c and add a fully developed vet D who can play in the top4 not another guy who struggles to remain any consitency because he is too young.

He went for the sparkly name in Byram who still has the shine of being a 4th OA pick and a few nice games in SCFs years ago.

What a complete disaster... this team is devoid of any true Centers and we wonder why our wingers are struggling.

This thought works if the GM and everybody in management hasn’t come out and said they want people that want to be here. If players that they have drafted have turned sour on being here, or even if players they brought in don’t want to be here, and they are still here, then that 100% falls on him. That’s not even factoring in that he’s 100% accountable for the competitive level of this team

Not fully blaming Adams for this team is a cop out and illogical.

Casting off not just mitts but Eichel, O'Reilly and Reinhart. Can you imagine the wagon circling we would be doing if they just put forth resources in the last decade. Sorry I'm turning into the guy I've been arguing with for the last 4 years.

Not to mention that Mitts actually wanted to be here, and mentioned that he wasn't offered squat at the beginning of the year.
This one is full and square on Adams and his roster building ideas.
