We need a strong vet partner for Power.

Kevyn: Best I can do is a failing bust kid struggling for playing time on a good team because he sucks.
Also Kevyn: And let me give up one of our best overall forwards whom we spent years developing for said player because we can't afford to pay him slightly better than Olofsson money.

Three full days rest, home game, opponent can't score and isn't good and sent their best player back home before the game, and had to play the second half of the game with 4 defensemen, and the Sabres couldn't handle them and didn't look very competitive for the vast majority of the game.
Did you happen to see the Isles bottom 6 for this game? It was reminiscent of those you would see on pre Vegas expansion teams. I'm only half joking when I say I think if Rochester had shown up and thrown on Sabres uniforms tonight they probably win unless their sieve of a goalie stunk the joint out.

No...

I missed the first but saw we had a 76% deserve to win on Moneypuck. Were we flat in the first??
Yes. The d-men were extra bad. At least 3-4 times horvat and others got behind the D including the goal.

I suppose the cycle was working better in the first and we had PP advantage but for the most part they were sloppy and disengaged as a team

My first order of business would be to flip Joker and Samuelson and go from there. These parings have been wildly inconsistent all season, but Ruff seem dead set on sticking with this configuration. Maybe start working in Gilbert here and there for some accountability.
The bigger problem among the d-pairs is the worst one, Power/Byram

Worst of the 3 pairs at generating offensive chances for, by a wide margin.
Worst of the 3 pairs at preventing offensive chances against.

I wish I had a clever solution for this with the existing roster but I don’t.

They literally brought back the entire staff save for replacing Ellis with Appert. Somehow I don't think the Chicago White Sox are going to keep virtually their entire coaching staff for next season.

How many more wins do we have this year rolling Greenway-Mitts-Zucker as our 3rd line instead of Greenway-McLeod-Zucker.

I'll watch to the 20 game mark. Their record at that point will be more telling.

The Sabres were out worked and out skilled in many different situations and categories. Board battles, battles behind the goal lines, loose pucks ended up on Islander sticks rather than the Sabres. The Islanders give the Sabre little time and space and play a tight checking style. Almost 5 on 5, man for man. The Sabres ice awareness and situational decision making was quite deficient throughout the game. Just two slow and unpolished. NYI forwards harassed and shredded the Sabres D with speed and quickness while the NY D collapsed towards their own house and made it difficult for the Sabres to penetrate the slot. The Sabres repeatedly... esp on the PP and extra attacker situations were forced to keep the puck on the perimeter and send one timers and slap shots towards the net. Easily blocked and recovered by the Islanders. Power's goal was scored at the goal mouth. Cozen's goal was an open net on the backside as he charged the net. I don't remember the last Sabre goal but it wasn't a finesse tic tack toe play.

The Sabres style of play is not compatible with the Islanders. (NYI: Tightly grind it out, keep shot totals down, and physically engage.)

And they were missing their best player.............
