Stokes has been against trading Ennis for anyone... not for Bobby Ryan, not for Jordan Staal, and now not for Ryan O'reilly.

He has no credibility when it comes to Ennis... he's simply to in love.

No, I just think there are better ways of doing it. For instance, I say Hodgson for ROR straight up, and I have Sabres fans saying no way. But the same fans are willing to throw in a major prospect + Ennis despite their relatively equal values, which is asinine asset management.

I'd have to think long and hard about it. I think we lose speed on an already slow team, and you know I admire the way he plays. I'm not sure ROR is better, but I realize this opinion won't be popular. We need a player like ROR. If we had to give up Ennis alone, I would do it reluctantly. I would rather give Hodgson.

Hodgson for ROR straight up?
Colorado doesn't want that.
Colorado doesn't need that.
Sabres would simply be trading offensive potential for defensive prowess.
I might do it, but it doesn't make sense.

No one wants to give up Ennis. But most have agreed that it would likely take Ennis or Sekera + prospect to get a deal done. It's easier to find a player like Ennis than a player like ROR. That, fair or not, skews value in favor of ROR.

Ennis for O'Reilly doesn't really lose team speed. Even though O'Reilly doesn't have Ennis' top end speed or agility, the kid can move just fine, and his IQ is such that he'll be in the right place in the right time more frequently across all three zones. We're not trading Ennis for Holik.

I'd trade Hodgson for R'OR as well, for whatever its worth. Grigs and Girgs (irrational man-crush) are my only untouchables.

I'd sooner trade Ennis than Hodgson.

But for O'Reilly, both are on the table.

Because each of our top three centers are best suited for the same type of role. There is a need for team diversity. That said, Ennis is the most well rounded and most versatile of the three, and that is why I would keep him over CoHo.

After Vanek, there is a big hole in organizational depth for skilled, top 6 LWs. If our players develop as projected, Ennis can fill that hole. CoHo has to be a top 6 center.

It's fun when you are cryptic in an attempt to gain some sort of upper hand. The team needs a two way center, we have three guys that would be better suited playing offensive roles. It's not hard or complicated. I'm sure you have some interesting way to twist this though.

Well you previously told me you value secondary scoring more than a shutdown center.

And you previously have disputed Oreilly's production as the result of linemates, while staunchly defending Ennis production.

So again... why would you trade Ennis (a guy you see as a proven top 6 scorer) for O'reilly (a guy whose offensive talents you dispute, and whose defensive talents you dont value as much, and a talent which you see as being filled in the near future by Girgensons)?

Have you changed your mind... or are you pretending so as to appear objective, when it's clear you aren't capable of being objective when the conversation involves Ennis

As I said, I would prefer to trade CoHo. Losing secondary scoring is a huge issue. But the current formula is not working. CoHo has a better chance of filling out Ennis' secondary scoring than Ennis does of providing RORs defensive game.

I'd give it some consideration. I'd have a very hard time parting with a potential #1C with size though.

As an Avs fan I think i'd want Hodgson over Ennis. Ennis has amazing speed and upside but the Avs get manhandled in the West conference by big teams and honestly a 5'9" guy just won't cut it out here. He will have better success in the more finesse/less grind of the East. I think Ennis has better upside, but I think Hodgson would be a better fit.

I guess the Derek Roy's, Jason Pominville types in the second + rounds never counted
