Samuelsson - Dahlin
Power - Joker
Bryson - Lyubushkin

Size, offense, and potential on each pairing. Should be fun…good or bad haha
Im fine with going into the season like this. Only change Id be good with making is upgrading Joki. Weegar seems like a good option here, but if the price is too high- then pass.

Power-Joki had some good stretches of play, so Im cool with seeing what we have in them as well.

I don't know about the Slovaks and the Finns, but it's important for the Russians to have a Russian player on the team to help them settle in. Different mentality maybe.

One of the advantages of certain teams is that they have Russian communities of native speakers (and native foods) to draw on. Both Florida teams have that. NYC has it. Montreal, to an extent DC. That seems to make it easier for fit than places that don't.

I really hope the Pilut news is true too, can't wait to see him under Granato v House/Ralph

Cool, I'm Russian too. Basically, it will be easier for them to get used to it, some do not even know the language, it is difficult for them. A new country away from home, especially for young players.
Did you live in Russia? Moscow and Saint Petersburg are far more like any big U.S. city than most places in the hockey sphere in Europe. Most of these kids in Russia have played in Moscow. I think the hysteria of culture shock is a bit overrated when it concerns Russians. Was probably very much the case in the 90s though.

I don’t think people saying it’s nice to have some vets of their culture amounts to “hysteria”

Posted earlier - but I'd be all over Jokiharju+ for Weegar.

That would be a fine group - would just need some depth for the AHL squad / injury callups.

From my experience, Russians enjoy the big picture places that they see in movies. Shopping, glitz, glamor, etc. My wife is insistent to visit Los Angeles, Miami, etc. Thinking we should save the culture shock of going to Buffalo last lol

A poor choice of words. I'll say misguided as this assumption is operating on 90's era attitudes. It's just that you never hear it with any other culture. When we drafted Risto, how many people were clamoring for a veteran Finn? It's good that we have Ilya. It wouldn't hurt.

Lots of Russians in the pipeline in Buffalo, at least. Maybe Lyubushkin takes a liking to Buffalo and brings Kisakov under his wing.

I live in St. Petersburg. But I was not talking about big cities, we also have big cities in addition to Moscow and St. Petersburg. I spoke in general about the mentality, a different country, a different language, a completely different life, of course, they get used to it over time, but at the beginning it can be difficult for them.

I have a friend who was a Soviet-born emigre and his take was that Buffalo was too much like home visually. :biglaugh: He lives in DC now.

No, there were definitely posts about getting Swedish veteran defensemen for dahlin, just like there were posts about getting a Finnish veteran for Risto.

I’m not speaking on bigger picture issues with Russian bias/stereotypes in the nhl…but this is not one of them

my russian friends say the same thing, Shes from druzba or something like that outside moscow and once commented that buffalo is just like home you drive to toronto/moscow when you want to have fun

i didnt have the heart to tell her how much that hurt

Got our "stay at home guy" who I think would pair well with Owen Power. Allow Power to go up ice and play his game. Lyubushkin isn more then capable defensive RHD

As of right now I'd keep Dahlin/Jokiharju and put Lyubushkin with Power

Where is the confirmation in the team's official twitter? They are for a long time.

Nice, he looked good from the times I saw with Toronto!

Now go get Weegar and be done with it KA.

He's going to be paired with Bryson or Power. I'm not concerned about his lack of offensive chops. That's not his role. If he was good at that, too, add 3m+ to this contract.
It’s not his lack of offensive chops it’s that he is a black hole for his partner’s offensive chops.

he better be with Bryson.
