Why break that up?

Good teams spread their talent.

Same reason why Stone wasn't on a line with Eichel in the playoffs. Toews wasn't on a line with Kane. Stamkos wasn't on a line with Point/Kucherov. Ovi wasn't on a line with Backstrom etc..

What difference does the order make?

Krebs - Tage - Greenway
Skinner - Mitts - Tuch
Rousek - Cozens - Peterka

Does that make you feel better? If all lines get 14 minutes of even strength time, does it matter? The idea is to try to roll line after line of attack and make matchups impossible for other teams.
Ralph, is that you ?

Doubt Granato messes with what worked to start.

Skinner-Thompson-Tuch
Savoie-Cozens-Peterka
Greenway-Mitts-VO
Girgs-Krebs-Okposo

If Mitts really is so good, we need him to carry the third line.

Maybe swap Greenway and Savoie but I like the blazing speed on Cozens line.

I was frustrated by Granato taking several weeks/months to leave Skinner-Thompson-Tuch together. I prefer he just stick with a very good top line and make the best out of everyone else and see how much development results in on-ice improvement. I still think they can get three good scoring lines with Mitts at C behind Cozens. This is about as close to what I hope to see, but I also assume a good amount of shuffling will happen just from still having a young roster, let alone waiting on Quinn. I wouldn't count on Savoie starting, but who know...I lean toward Rousek getting more ice time.

I'd be real surprised if Donny didn't switch up the lines especially if another kid makes the team. Guess it all depends on what works. We should see more combos with Rousek as a viable option though

There will be shuffling of course. But you always go back to what worked. Savoie is in there because he is their top pick of that draft, nothing left to prove, is an excellent top 6 potential forward which is what Quinn was, and his situation means he has to be on the team now. He will take it and run with it. Rousek will be first call up.

Greenway Tage Tuch (here there be GIANTS)
Skinner Cozens Mitts
Jjp krebs olofsson (yuck)
Girgs jost Okposo

The weak link in the top 6 is Greenway, but maybe he finds his niche on the tallest line in hockey and can be a good complimentary piece to Tage and Tuch.

I look at moving Skinner to the second line not as a demotion for Skinner, but as a boost to the 2nd line. Skinner Cozens Mitts is a much stronger 2nd line than last years JJp Cozens Quinn. If we get 75% of last years Skinner, last years Cozens with some improved defense and the same Mitts from the last 20 games that’s got to be a top 5 second line in the league, better than some teams first lines.

The 3rd line is iffy. Need big growth out of JJP and Krebs, a more complete olofsson would be a nice suprise, but it’s doubtful. Maybe a Rousek/Savoie/Kulich forces the issue and makes this line better?

JOG gonna JOG

I like Greenway with Tage but on the other side.

I don't think we brought Jost back to be more than the 13th. Quinn injury is why he even draws in. Still, this team needs room for prospects so I don't see a spot for him unless VO is traded (his spot is where I prefer Savoie).

Maybe something like:

Mitts/Skinner Tage Tuch
Skinner/Mitts Cozens Peterka
Greenway Krebs VO/Savoie
Girgs Jost Okposo

We do have to be careful with Mitts overperforming what he is at the end of last year, as well as Greenway underperforming last year. That's why I am more for running the lines back and see what pieces need to flip rather than change everything and hope it works.

I am having a hard time imagining these forward pieces together. I think we are likelier to see the same lines as last year with Jost in the press box, and a TBD fill-in for Quinn next to Cozens.

Skinner Thompson Tuch
JJP Cozens <ROOKIE>
Greenway Mitts VO
Girgs Krebs KO

The big questions:

1. Will or can Krebs play higher in the lineup?
2. Does Greenway restore/grow his offensive game and where does he fit?
3. Are there any promotions from Roch?
4. Do any Junior players make the opening night roster?

The 1st line (and Sammy+Dahlin) work and ought not be messed with.

We're going to see plenty of combinations of everybody else.

Mitts will be 5th in forward ice time whether he's 2nd or 3rd line. Tuch and Tage in the 18/19 range, Skinner/Cozens/Mitts in the 16/17.5 range.

I think we've got a 1st or 4th line and the middle two lines will be pretty fluid throughout the season. Krebs will see some middle 6 time when Jost plays.

I sure hope KO's minutes go down significantly. And I'm interested to see our PK guys. Krebs or Peterka could really help out if they are up for it.

The longest drought in league history and we’re spending August arguing about which unproven forward will get top 6 minutes. And skill forward is easily the best position group in the organization.

Adams just throwing seasons away at this point.

When this season is over the calls for action better be universal.

What should we be arguing about then?

I mean, I'd like to point out we are spending around 9M in players we'd probably move for a 4th round pick at this point (Olofsson, Joker, Bryson) and we're 6M under the cap still.

I'd love to see what adding 10M of actual well allocated salary could do.

Bryson is easy to Roch, the problem is finding a team that wants and can fit VO and Joker with their cap.

Ideally Id like to move out VO and then sign Tatar.

I think they plan to carry 8 D do moving Joker isnt as pressing.

Next summer they ditch about 22 mil in cap space (Olofsson, Girgs, Okposo, Jost, EJ, Boosh, probably both Bryson and Stillman, Comrie). They add back about 16 mil with raises for Mitts, Krebs, Dahlin, Power, Joker, and UPL, and adding Savoie, Kulich, and Ryan Johnson.

So they'll have 6 mil plus the extra from a higher cap, so around 8 mil, with a D-man spot to fill. So first, this season is not the one to add significant players for a team still not a Cup contender and second, there's only going to be enough cap space for one major add, or two decent adds to the roster. The summer after that Quinn, Peterka, and Levi will need raises, so spend with caution.

The way I see it is KA can make one big add on defense...at least I hope...once EJ and the mediocre players are gone, and CC proves he's not a #4. But that's all the space for the near future.

I think 50% of Oloffson easily gets him moved but we don't really have a burning need for mid round futures, we have a ton of prospects already. If him at 50% retained nets a 3rd, I'd rather keep him as depth. If it nets a second, I'd listen intently

Really really good analysis

I like Dylan DeMelo as the add, and 3 years at 5 million per may be an overpay, but keeping it to three years is the key.

I would like to see Power at around the same as Dahlin, 3x6. Then it's the same situation where you can go 8 years next for his prime years.

And, goalie will remain a question. Does Levi emerge as a true 1A, and will UPL show he belongs in the league. If Levi/UPL work, that's 4 million in net. If not, it would cost a couple extra million to get some quality net minding, if not more.

One reason to let Kulich&Savoie slide is so their next contracts start when Skinner ends
