League sources say the Buffalo Sabres are among the busier teams phoning around sizing up the trade market. I asked Sabres GM Kevyn Adams about that Tuesday, and he said, “I believe in this group, but at the same time I am looking into every possible way to improve our roster.”

Said one rival team executive about the Sabres: “They’re looking to do something big if they can.”

What is Buffalo looking for? Seems like they have their 1C, 2C, 3 top 4D and a starting goalie. Unless they are trading one of them, what big trade are they looking to do and what position are they trying to upgrade?

IMO, their glaring need is a top 4-caliber RHD to pair with Power long-term. Preferably one a little more defense-oriented who's a PKer.

A lot of fans are questioning the fit of Cozens at center long-term......so maybe an upgrade there that puts Cozens on the wing. OR, using Cozens himself to upgrade the 2C position so we've got two guys who are 1C/2C types (along with Tage).

Easy answer is 2C. Most people think Cozens is better suited for the wing. Second answer is a more balanced D core. Top 4 big shutdown type D. Everyone had Quinn pencilled in as a 2nd line winger which is hurting them right now, but he is also way too talented to be a third liner.

I think you guys need an Erik Karlsson and a Tristan Jarry!
Jokes aside, you have to think Dubas is willing to work on Petterson or Rakell. I think they are the only "big" pieces that he has that might accept a trade to Buffalo and be something the Sabres might want.

NYI- Barzal

BUF- Rosen + Helenius+ rights to Strbak + rights to Ziemer

This is the general type of deal that I think Sabres fans want Adams to make -- consolidate a bunch of our higher-end prospects to go get a big fish.

That said, I can't imagine the Isles trading Barzal unless they're committed to some form of rebuild (which, IMO they should be.....but can't actually see it happening with Lou/Roy)

What are some reasonable top 4 RHD you'd be looking for? (Like Zub is the perfect one, but no way Ottawa is trading him in division when they're currently looking to be upwards trending).

I honestly have no idea who's even out there who fits the definition of "right-handed, defensive-minded, can PK AND play ~20 min a game"........and the list of who could move is probably MUCH MUCH smaller than the list of who even fits the definition.

PLUS, a lot of guys that fit the above definition have NMCs/NTCs........and Buffalo is likely on a LOT of those limited NTCs.

When they start dumping upcoming UFA's, Edmonton should be calling about Henri Jokiharju.
Frankly, I think he's available right now. He seems to have fallen out of favor with Ruff.

I think our lineup tomorrow will give a glimpse as to how far he's fallen -- Samuelsson got hurt (again) and the choice of replacement is between Gilbert and Jokiharju. If we play Gilbert tomorrow......Joker isn't in the plans at all.

Has his game fallen off, or is it just a scenario where the coach doesn't like him?

Yeah like Rasmus Andersson is the only one that comes to mind, and he's definitely not defensive orientated, even though he can play PK and over 20 minutes a game without much issue.
