It's an absolute shame this hasn't worked out. When he has played, he's been very good.

I don't blame Lou for going after Clowe. If he didn't have his concussion history this would have been a good contract. But his health made it a bad risky contract that's rearing its ugly head. He's a good guy, and a hard working player.

This sucks. He's a Hockey player, the kind any team would want and need.

Last of a dying breed.

Alas, proper respect and perspective, in a sea of criticism.

Good posts, both.

4 in 18 months is terrible. Who knows how many he's had before that.

Sad to see him go this way.

Sucks for Ryane. Injuries definitely derailed his promising career. Was a pretty good skater before blowing his knee out. Then shoulder and chest and head injuries.

I liked what he brought to the Rangers during his short tenure. While I was on the fence about re-signing him, I was not happy when Jersey signed him. Too bad the knocks to the head caught up to him. Best to get out while you can still lead a healthy life. Best of luck in the future, Clowe.

Devils fans like Cammalleri, he's good to get injured for about 20-30 games per season but he always comes back looking like he's never left. He's been doing this all his career, his contract isn't that bad.

and it's not like we're strapped for cap space...

Not worth 5 million no matter how you gift wrap it.

This sucks. I really hope he's somehow able to come back.

Clowe is definitely one of my favorite players in the league. When he's healthy, he's been great for the Devils and is a really underrated passer. Add in that he's also a tough customer, and that's why he's been one of my favorites going back to his early San Jose days.

He wont retire until his contract runs out.
How is it by the CBA – is it really not possible to let a permanently injured player officially retire and turn a new page in his life while still getting paid the full remaining contract value? I mean, the insurance pays for it after the player goes to LTIR, doesn't it? I guess the insurance companies don't want to just give up that easily... There are plenty of players who just quietly effectively retire yet their official status is something else.

Hopefully he doesn't have any long term effects. Tire to hang them up and hopefully enjoy good health.

He was a fan favorite here in San Jose. My dads absolute favorite player when he was on the roster. It's too bad he's going out this way, it was a treat having him in SJ for as long as he was. Health before anything, and I hope that's the route he takes here.

Keep in mind that if you fully allow for healing after a concussion (let's say 5-8 weeks) then the subsequent concussions shouldn't be as bad. However that does not seem to be the case now. I don't particularly recall that he rushed himself back much either. Could be that he had a ton of concussions before and try to play through them...

Easy there Dr. Rechi. Educate yourself on this matter before you spread ignorance, especially about a health topic as sensitive as this one considering many people here play hockey and I imagine several have or will face concussions.

his trade from the Sharks made sense as far as on-ice performance, but i really think the Sharks' locker room probably lost a big presence once he was traded

How are you gonna make such a pragmatic post but then spell Recchi wrong? ;)

Haha I didn't even notice I misspelled that word, but seriously, people who lack knowledge on medical care shouldn't be sharing their knowledge with others. It's not smart and nor is it safe.

Perfect mix of pest, power forward and scorer. One of favorite players when he was in his prime.

Why did NJ sign him to a long term deal after he got those concussions playing for the Rangers?
