Ryane Clowe

I don't think you understand his value. We don't have enough players like this. Half of our guys aren't built for the playoffs. Clowe, in my opinion, is. Clowe is a big time keep for me.

if he's healthy...but giving up a second rounder just for the opportunity to sign him...far-fetched, no? i dunno, seems like a lot, to me. maybe i'm wrong.

That group of forwards is ugly. Don't know how you can expect the team to do better with those personnel. 3 AHL'ers slotted in, 2 of them before they are ready (at least, based on their performance this season). 4th liner playing on the third line. Charmin soft 2nd line. Defensive nightmare 3rd line. Counting on Brassard to continue near a point per game pace. A top 6 with at least 2, maybe 3 players slotted above where they should be on a good team. If that is what NYR brings next season, get ready for a bumpy ride.

Also, where's Stralman?

And how do you plan to get Giggy?

oh i thought Giggy was a FA this offseason. Didn't realize he signed an extension. God I would love him here as a backup.

Our second line is anything but soft. Zucc isn't soft. Brass isn't soft. Hags isn't soft. The 3rd line is giving our young guys some 'show me' minutes. You can't keep burying your top prospects in Hartford hoping the AHL will turn them into NHL players. They need NHL minutes and a coach that won't throw them under the bus. Dorsett, Asham, and Haley all bring the agitator toughness factor. Haley is not at all a bad hockey player. McIlrath already brings something to the table no other defenseman can. He is a heavy heavy hitter. He has Beukeboom potential and you would be an idiot to not want that on your team.

Prust is speedy because of his size and speedy for a player in his role.

Clowe is cement.

I'm a HUGE Clowe fan, always have been. But yeah, his foot speed hasn't helped him as he's matured and it's really showing this season.

Gotta think with AV being the bench boss that Clowe will be returning.

“Vigneaut was my coach in junior (QMJHL) and I know how he likes a physical and competitive team and it’s similar to us,” said Clowe. “We kind of clash a bit and get after each other. They’re fun games and the kind I like to be involved in — high tempo and with a lot of energy. It’s what I like.”

"I would love to play for him again. And I don't look at Vancouver being that old or having peaked already and on the way down. They have a really good team and missing a huge piece with (Ryan) Kesler. Once they get into the playoffs, whoever plays them will have their hands full."

I would love another year of Clowe, I just have big doubts about affording him. If he comes back it's because he really wanted to back let's just put it that way.

Affording him??? The bigger concern should be his injury problems and the fact he couldnt get on the ice for the Rangers

dude waived his NTC to come to NY and passed over a number of teams.. i think if hes healthy slats will lock him up.. no more then 3-4yrs and no bigger cap hit then 4m.. the guy has plenty of gas left in the tank, he just needs to stya healthy (hard I know) but he's a work horse and we need that toughness in top 6 to be successful..

1-huge playoff success
2-polices the ice.. fights anyone
3-creates space for players, with his physical play
4-dude can score goals, dish the puck
5-guy plays in top 6 and with his size we need that presence
6-helps on PP

That sounds like the Ryane Clowe of 3 years ago. Buyer beware.

I love how some of you create a team that does not have the money to sign the players we have. We have roughly 13.5 million in cap space to sign Mac (5 million) Clowe (4 million????) Stepan 3.5/4 million) you have not signed Hags or Zucc yet. Clowe will not be resigned unless they buy out Richards which now looks less likely!!

Why is it less likely?

100% agree that the NYR are NOT resigning Clowe unless they buy out Richards. And I have, for the last several weeks, convinced myself that Richards is not getting bought out THIS year.

With AV now in NY, Clowe is most likely staying... AV is one of the main reasons Vancouver was one of his top two choices during the trade deadline

he shouldn’t unless he signs a team friendly deal. too many ? for my liking

I don't agree 100%, in terms of other teams, that could use a Filppula, Weiss or Ribeiro, but as far as THIS team goes, there are no suitable UFAs. Weiss an Ribeiro, and even Filppula, are very good but are small playmakers. So are Stepan and Brassard (also, Weiss and Ribeiro, like Brassard, aren't good defensively... Filppula is average). Best centers available, and signing one would make us a predictable/beatable team. We could trade Del Zotto for Gagner, then sign him. He's a bit better-rounded and more tenacious. But stll small/easily shut down.

I didn't mention Conolly, because I don't see him leaving Toronto, but he's very similar to Ribeiro and Weiss (assuming Weiss hasn't totally lost the edge.

In a Conference with 1-2 punches like Crosby-Malkin and Krejci-Bergeron, I think we need at least 3 well-above average centers to have the edge. Last season, we had 1. Before that, Richards and Stepan were both above average, and Dubinsky and Anisimov, along with Boyle, were dominant shut-down guys.

We're on pace for somewhere in-between the last two years. Between Brassard and Stepan, we should have to good centers, barring injuries. But ony 1 shut-down guy, again, in Boyle. Ideally, we'd get a J. Staal, or even a 2006 Handzus or 2000 Holik ;). Maybe Dave Bolland or Matt Cullen?---someone that can handle a checking role well and still create.

Because Richards, by all indications, can no longer provide either one of those services. On the other hand, hope springs eternal, maybe he'll be decent.

Why buy him out and essentially replace with, say, Ribeiro (~$6M cap-hit), who will make our center-ice a bubble-wap doormat? Same for Weiss, Conolly, Filppula.

So we're between a rock and hard place with Richards, who, when he's out there, looks to be a Phaneuf away from paraplegia. Then we can't buy him out. I say do it and really look.

Que mas? Zubrus can play C... not a bad option, but how much? Boyes is not leaving the island anytime soon. Nor Bozak Toronto.

Best skaters available are Horton (listed as, but not a C + always injured) and Streit (big right-handed shot could make up for an unproductive bottom-six, which we'd probably have with or without Richards).

I say, offer Clowe 1yr @ 5 and try to get Duchene. Let Zuccarello go, someone will offer 4/16 for him. He won't do anymore piecemeal stuff, book it.

Stepan was our best two way center by far last year. he's becoming a shut down center.
