I'm terrified of a McDonagh offer sheet. Sather plays hardball with RFA's. A ridiculous offer by Holmgren would put the Rangers in a bad spot.

Rangers will match any offer McD gets.

they have 14+ million to play with to resign Clowe, McD, Stepan and Hags.

You can increase that 14 mil by moving Pyatt, Asham and Powe

financial flexibility is not an issue.

Well I think we all know that he isn't signing a 2 year deal, and we didn't give up a 2nd and a 3rd to bring him here for two months. So the question is what does he get? Clearly 7-8 years isn't happening either. In the end I'd guess he gets somewhere around 4-5 years. Certainly the back end of that deal would likely be a problem...but when is that not an issue with contracts today?

4 years 18 million.

Structure the hell out of it so the last year is as low as you can get it.

I have no issues with 4 years at 4.5 per.

I think he sticks around for that contract.

I am terrified of the contract we might get ourselves into with Clowe. 3 years would be great, but he certainly would want more. Additionally, if he wants to much per year, we'll have trouble retaining Steps, McDefense and Shagelin this off season. We have 14m or so, and those three could take upwards of 10m.

What's the symbol on the front of Clowes helmet? Is it a Yiddish symbol?

its a warrior helmet? hahah i think thats what your talking about.. one thing i love about this team now is we actually have balls.. when pitt was getting chippy.. clowe asham and even boyle were pushing back.. loved it tonight..

clowe policing the ice..

hahah would love to see that.. Grioux sound good to anyone or coutier or b. schenn, bc as much as I hate them theyre good hockey players id take here in a sec..

but no worries only offersheets happen if long contract disputes happen..

Loved how he already was all in Cooke's face.

Clowe's game really picked up in the 3rd. Real good forechecker and made some solid passes.

Loved how he already was all in Cooke's face.

This - the fact that he can take a regular shift, and still be an intimidating presence makes him incredibly valuable.

If a 4th line goon/enforcer type got up in Cooke's face, it becomes a lot easier for Cooke to shrug them off/ignore them/go around him - part of the code seems to be that 4th line fighters don't 'force themselves' (for want of a better phrase) on non-4th line fighters. With Clowe (and Lucic, Iginla, et al), he can't do this - so he either engages Clowe (and gets KTFO), or backs off sheepishly.

The days of McSorley/Brashear/Orr have been over for a few seasons now - they can't catch anyone to hit them, and no-one apart from other 4th line goons will fight them. Their replacements are the Lucics and Clowes of the NHL (with Prust/Asham/Dorsetts filling a slightly lesser role) - can take a shift, chip in ~45 points, throw a hard check, and really not the guy you want to partner with in an after-the-whistle scrum.

Trouble is, there are so few of them - especially ones with the extra intimidation factor (e.g. Brown will do a fair amount of the above, but no-one's scared of the guy), that GMs put a fair premium on their services... which might not bode well for Sather's UFA negotiations with Clowe.

Clowe has already shown me so much of why the Rangers should keep him. Why they should have also kept Pruster. Guys like this won't blow anybody away with point production. What they will do is make your team extremely difficult to play against, stick up for team mates with legit force, give said team mates more room to operate, keep things straight and sorted in the room.

It's not all about what goes down on the stat sheet, but it still results in W's.

He's gotta put up his normal average of points though to justify 4.5m +

Re: that video-

They have a Yankees cover for their grill (?) but don't watch the Rangers?

The hell is wrong with those people!?

doubt he gets 5m per.. if it is its either 3yr-5m but prob 4yr 4-4.5m nothing more then that.. He doesn't light up the score sheet. but intangibles could only pay you so much..

plus slats has to worry about mcd hags (should be cheap) and step.. then the year of hell in 14', which prob means richards is deff bought out to save $$$$..
