Confirmed with Link: Ryane Clowe to Rangers for NYR 2013 2nd, FLA 2013 3rd, Conditional 2nd 2014

] People are pissed off at Wilson and expected a first back at the minimum. You are not reading the same board I am. Some dudes are joking about rioting.

Now they are moving towards acceptance (which is the next step).

Most of those guys were not pleased at all upon hearing the return, though.
 
And here we were, just this morning, discussing how Sather "knows" not to overpay at the deadline when the playoffs aren't even a sure thing.

And Clowe is a proven performer who brings a lot to this team. Risky move, considering the zero goals and all, but that's outweighed by the inherent risk of picks.

The hyperbole about how NYR suddenly doesn't develop their own talent when the best players on our team this year sans Nash (who was acquired with our own talent) are homegrown really needs to stop.

True - maybe the Rangers value their own prospects over the upcoming ones in the draft, ones like St. Croix/Fasth/Thomas/Lindberg that they rather would have kept than giving up the pick. That's how I view it. We have Fasth, Lindberg, Kreider, and Miller all coming up the next few years. For a player who is not over the hill at 30, and is still a valuable player, I don't think this is a bad trade, especially since players like Clowe are very, very tough to find.
 
If the Rangers were in 1st place this would be a no-brainer but they aren't. They are trading important draft picks for a guy that if they resign will cost them ANOTHER draft pick.....

It makes no sense. Is Ryan Clowe (who isn't a bad hockey player by any means) going to make a difference that's worth THREE draft picks?

No and the fans that love the trade will be the same ones on draft day complaining we don't have a 1st or 2nd round pick.

Unless the Rangers can recoup the picks (doubtful) this is a move that makes very little sense...for an 8th place clue....that can easily miss the playoffs.......
 
You hope Torts makes room by sitting Pyatt, but no doubt he's gonna sit Powe because he likes watching our PK get scored on.
 
Sather still has another 20 hours to trade for more forwards who can't score.

Go for it Glen! You have a chance to put together a team with a collection of inept scorers, of epic porpotions, that no other NHL has or ever will match

I can't bring myself to believe two seconds for a guy who does what Clowe does (barring the no goals this year, hopefully change of scenery and playing with Stepan fixes that) is an overpay.

some people dont understand that when it comes to drafting young hockey players, the 2nd and 3rd rounds are exactly where studs can be found...

assuming you know how to draft these young men on more than just their sitdown interviews and "potential"

He already has Gaborik so that one was checked off early.
 
Makes me think the Rangers have some ideas on how to recoup some draft picks, or they really don't like this upcoming draft

And Clowe might make this team better in the short run but he has trouble staying healthy and that's a pretty big reason he has slumped lately. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get hurt before the year is done
 
Kind of wish we could have given up a different 3rd rounder, but that's small beans, hopefully they can get an extension done with him, and obviously move some money out tomorrow.

A part of Slats' thinking has to be for right here and right now. Slats must have some sort of an idea as to what Clowe is looking for in his next contract. This isn't a typical 8th place team even though we've played as inconsistently as one.
 
Why not trade away all of our 2013 picks so we don't have to incur the organizational expense of showing up at the draft. :laugh:

I'm still confused by the tweets... Did we receive any picks from SJ in the deal?

Lets say he doesn't light it up like everyone thinks he is going to, then bolts. How is that not a bad trade? Even when that extra 2nd becomes a 5th it's still a bad trade.
 
Clowe is one tough sob. Can play with a lot of snarl. If anything he's tougher than Prust--closer to Lucic. Whether he's worth what we gave up depends on his rebounding a bit and so remains to be seen. This team if it gets to the playoffs has very little toughness and grind--he should be a big help in that regard and playoffs are all about attrition. I'm cautious about this hoping he gets back to where he was.
