Confirmed with Link: Ryane Clowe to Rangers for NYR 2013 2nd, FLA 2013 3rd, Conditional 2nd 2014

No. Absolutely not. They conserve and manage their prospects, are careful about giving up tons of picks, and draft extremely well compared to just about any GM/scouting team that is out there. They make moves that compliment the team, but they don't throw their future away for the sake of winning in one year; they've never done that. They have historically given up a few 1st rounds, but are able to make up for that by drafting a **** ton of late round gems.

4 first round picks in last 12 years

Well he's not totally useless. He is a good 4th line center, imo. But finding a guy to replace Boyle would not be all that difficult, again just my opinion. Excuse me for implying that he had no value, that wasnt my intention Jon.

Yeah, but even if that's "not your intention," you're still perpetuating the ridiculous meme.

You got me there. It was meant more in the context of he's a replaceable piece for this team as currently constructed, and a vauled commodity to a contender this year (which imo would have been the time to move him). Useless is Stu Bickel. I should have made a better distinction.

The Pens have the two best players in the league — who are actually playing well. You really want to compare the Pens to the Rangers?

Where did I do that? I compared what they gave up to what they got because it's part of the recent dealings that have gone on.

And, if you want to go there, the "two best players in the league" is in your opinion. I'm sure many, many fans of many, many teams would take issue with that.

I'll give you Crosby, but would I rather have the best goalie in the world or Malkin? That's tough. Toews or Malkin? Datsyuk or Malkin? Stamkos or Malkin?

this team cannot score goals. this year.

this guy cannot score goals. this year.

i just dont think more of the same stuff we already have (guys who cant score) will help us change the fortunes of this team this year.

clowe is a nice piece. he brings some grit and size and toughness.... but on this team this year, that impact is minimal considering we cannot score.

This trade is for more than just this year.

I would argue, the team lacks top players at the moment.

This team does not lack top players at this moment. This teams players are not producing. The difference is subtle but there is a difference. Clowe is a player that you want on this team. You just don't know it yet. And to get him without giving up a known asset is a good thing.

You're saying look at what the Pens did.

They won a Cup with Fleury. They could potentially win one with Vokoun

Malkin X 3.
