Confirmed with Link: Ryane Clowe to Rangers for NYR 2013 2nd, FLA 2013 3rd, Conditional 2nd 2014

A 2nd, a 3rd and either a 5th or another 2nd is "very high"?

What would you think is fair at the deadline for a top 6 forward?

Douglas Murray got back two 2nd round picks. Brendan Morrow got back a prospect with top 4 D potential. IDK what you guys think we're supposed to pay for players like this.

Yes, it is very high, when you consider that second may be in the 45 range, the third is almost a late second, and we have to give up another if he re-signs. Clowe has 0 goals. He's a good player, but it's a risk.

Aspiring Contender? Is that really what we are as currently constructed?

Oh god I hope we are. We spent years rebuilding and last season we started seeing the fruits of our labors. Make no mistake, this is our window. But right now our window is being closed by a coach who fails to adapt and change but that's for another thread.

I'm okay with this deal. But I think this does little to solve the issues with the line combinations defensively.

In what world is a top 6 forward who has produced for years judged by a 28 game stretch? There was a point where Wayne Gretzky didn't score a goal for 15 straight games. Guess he sucks, too. At least Clowe can fight and play physically.

But it's potentially a rental. We're not getting him in 2011 when he got 62 points, we're getting him now.

The Pens have the two best players in the league — who are actually playing well. You really want to compare the Pens to the Rangers?

moving Gaborik to resign 0 goals clowe is a brilliant idea. :handclap:
:shakehead

It's not my idea, that's the last thing I want to happen. Did you see the part where I said I wanted at least two seasons of Gabby-Richie-Nasher (not as a line, just on the team)? Gaborik is my favorite player on the team and when he leaves I'm going to be very sad. I was simply putting that out there because how else would it work financially? Cap goes to 64.8mil next year. How else do we make enough room to keep Clowe and re-sign our RFAs?

Im on board with you. Anyone fooling themselves into thinking we can compete with the Bostons, Chicagos, Pittsburghs of the world this year are just fooling themselves. Why not dump the useless we have on our team ie: Boyle, Pyatt, get some picks back that have value in a deep draft, and start over with a full season. This is just a foolish move.

Why do people keep posting this crap that Boyle is useless? Why won't this ridiculous meme die?

Before anyone else gets on me. I would feel a bit more comfortable IF we had our first. But the fact of the matter is our pick could be Top 10 when this year ends. Now we have no 2nd round pick, which would again be almost a late 1st in that scenario. Thats way to much of a risk for a team who has been flirting with the playoffs all season and could very well be left out in the cold. This move at this time is wrong, thats all Im getting at. Were not a top 4 eastern team that needed to add a guy for a run.

That wasn't directed at you.. It was directed at the Rangers if thats what they decided to do.

First let me say, I loved the Nash trade. Still do and would make the same trade anyday of the week. But, to me this is short-sighted. Assets are assets. And that's what Bluenote was saying.

Erixon is not a borderline NHLer. He may not be the player he projected to be, but he's a useful piece.

If Dubi and AA are second/third line players and Clowe is a top six forward, that's still two assets to one. And Dubi and AA have scored this season.

4 draft picks are unknown. But the more picks you have, the better chance you find success.

Experts might have thought the Rangers were Cup contenders. The play on the ice showed otherwise. And for a team that could miss the playoffs to enter the draft (at present) without a 1st or 2nd, it's a scary proposition for those of us who lived through Lee Falardeau.

In a vacuum, maybe. But when you add in the picks and assets, the picture changes.

Does adding a guy who has toughness and no goals really help this team go for it?

Maybe, but until they are, it's a loss. And this is a deep draft (from what I've heard)

By that rational, the Rangers should trade all their picks for a fourth liner. Or that Matt Gilroy is worth more than a first round pick.

Looking short-term was the reason for NYR 1998-2004.

I'm not cutting and pasting point/counterpoint as it's entirely too time consuming.

If you're thinking of Clowe as adding a guy with toughness that can't score, then you haven't watched Clowe. If you're comparing this years edition of the NYR, who went to the ECF the year prior, to the 98-04 Rangers, then I can't help you. If you think you can get an asset without giving up an asset, I can't help you. Equally, if you have a chance at a proven commodity, like Clowe, you take it. A 2nd, a 2nd and a 3rd isn't a huge thing if the guy signs here because odds are that NONE of those 3 picks are going to amount to another Ryane Clowe. One might, none might. Those are the chances that you take.

As far as the "win now" mentality, have a look at who the Rangers have wrapped up through the 2014-15 season and get back to me. 4 players. FOUR. Their time to take a shot is right now and next year.

Why do people keep posting this crap that Boyle is useless? Why won't this ridiculous meme die?

Well he's not totally useless. He is a good 4th line center, imo. But finding a guy to replace Boyle would not be all that difficult, again just my opinion. Excuse me for implying that he had no value, that wasnt my intention Jon.

anyone else annoyed that Sather/Gorton (whoever) would make this kind of move THIS year and gave us the amazing John Scott last year when we were ya know 1st in the entire NHL? smh

Andrew Gross @AGrossRecord
Sharks GM Doug Wilson: "Ultimately, it was his decision in end and through the whole process as to what he was seeking and where he’d fit."

On paper every one of our moves makes sense going back to when Cigar first got here. Brad Richards will infinitely make the PP better ! :propeller

wtf? I specifically said I wasn't on board with the Nash trade because of how it would change our franchise's philosophy and you respond by pretending I blindly support everything Sather does? You're not good at HF.
