This was bordering on a consensus opinion.

Not this guy. Most here overrated Chytil and underrated Strome. I have no idea how people looked at Chytil who has limited vision, limited hands, and limited hockey iq and thought, ya he can replace Strome. Said all along that people were too high on Chytil, I still think he can be a useful player if we work on his defensive game and faceoffs. He's got good speed and length which if he could learn to pk he could end up as a Grabner type.

Of course he can. He's 22. If he never came over and was playing in the SHL right now, we'd be pumped about him.

Plays with Panarin, develops instant chemistry and gets the most out of Panarin
Plays with Kakko, develops strong chemistry and gets the best out of Kakko
Plays with Laffy, develops chemistry and gets the best out of Laffy
Plays with Goodrow, gets the most out of Goodrow

are you noticing a trend? Even last year, he was producing with Kreider in that brief stint

It doesn't mean he's a perfect player but he elevates his linemates
I feel the need to bump this. People who continue to belittle the guy are simply in denial. He has his warts and horrendous off-nights, but all players do. He produces with Panarin. He produces without Panarin. It doesn't matter to him. He remains nearly a point per game producer. It's year 4 of Strome, not his first one here that happens to be a contract year so he's going all out on offense. Whatever. He's proven it in my eyes. He's a consistent producer the whole time he's been here -- whether you think he's soft or lazy or he's not the prototype you would design in your hockey simulation at home or you think he has a punchable Islander face -- as in this team would not be 26-10-4 without him and his production.

The offensive production when they’re paired together is undeniable, but I really do like him better as a player away from Panarin. Something about his all around game I find more effective.

We rip him for being east-west. It's pretty obvious who is influencing it. Panarin.

Agreed. The switch flips instantly.

I’ll eat crow on this one, though. If the team does decide to re-sign him I at least take comfort knowing he can be successful with or without Panarin.

I think it brings much better balance to the top6 IMO

Panarin Zibs
Kreider Strome

It's what @duhmetreE noted. He can adjust the way he plays depending on who is playing on his flanks. People use terms like carrying his linemates, or making players around him better. But "Strome" cannot be attached to those terms by law.

Also: GWG last night, giving him 4 so far this year. He had 1 all of last year.

Should have reupped him before now. He keeps racking up points we're gonna be in a jam.

If I was NYR at the negotiating table I'd probably mention that he's 8th in the league among forwards in minor penalties taken this season.

I like Ryan but that's a problem. NHL Stats

You take penalties when you are battling for the puck, his penalties won't affect his resigining or his cap hit.

Love when Strome gets physical. You could see the team was pumped by the TKO.

What a sweet play he made on Kreider's first goal. No hesitation, full speed, faked the shot just enough to make the goalie wonder, and then right into a perfect saucer pass.

One of the stars of the game for me and deserving of a thread bump.

You forget sometimes that he has no problem taking care of himself when it comes to physical play and standing up for himself and his teammates.

His assist on that Kreider goal was beautiful too. It’s going to be really interesting to see if they try to resign him and for how much. It’s hard to imagine the team without him.

The Rangers’ clear interest in J.T. Miller should not be considered a shot across the bow to Ryan Strome’s camp, but the games before the trade deadline may serve as a referendum of sorts on whether Strome should be a Ranger long term.

Drury and Pat Morris, Strome’s agent, are still in contact about an extension, sources say. But the talks aren’t really headed towards a neat and immediate conclusion. If Strome decides he wants to stay, then there’s a cap number and term number that works, and he could sign right away. The cap number starts with a five, though, and the term doesn’t go up beyond four, in all likelihood.

The possibilities on the free-agent market this summer for a legitimate No. 2 center are pretty limited, especially given the Rangers’ salary-cap concerns beyond this season. If they can’t get Strome for four years at $5.25 million annually, say, they also can’t extend Miller, whose $5.25 million cap hit expires after 2022-23. You’ve also got Vincent Trocheck, who will be coming off a $4.75 million cap hit but a $6.25 million salary; Tomas Hertl, whose next deal will be in the eight-year, $8 million range; Nazem Kadri, who’ll get a big raise off his $4 million cap hit; and maybe Evgeni Malkin, who would be an intriguing fit with Panarin but won’t exactly be cheap either, even at age 35.

Five things to watch as the Rangers’ season ramps back up: A bottom-six fix, a new D pair, trade candidates and more
