I think it would be a huge mistake to resign this guy for term.
Defenders will point to that one stretch where he put up some points without Panarin, but I would be more inclined to use his current state of play in negotiations.
Anyone being honest would have to admit that the guy is easily replaced

I'm at the point where the only way id keep him is if he took a 1-2 million per year discount which we all know ain't happening. Overpaying this guy will instantly be Drury's most egregious mistake this far

The playoffs will be his make or break. If he performs well then hopefully something can be negotiated (team friendly)but if he doesn't than it's a no brainer you have to let him go.
He's not going anywhere by the TDL so let's see if he shows up in the playoffs (maybe he pulls off a Brassard...yeah I wish).

The best mess open nets in a shootout and then complain for no reason?
He wasn't complaining for no reason. Greiss got his stick in skates. By the time he cleared the stick, it was a much tougher angle.

Would I make the call if I were the referee? No. But if he goes down, he's likely awarded the goal. Should've scored anyways, but I'm not going to let it ruin my President's Day.

Tough one for Strome last night, but its become clear that the 2C decision is the last big financial commitment the Rangers will make to a veteran player for awhile. I like him, but he's auditioning for his future here these last 34 games + playoffs. My personal opinion, barring lucky breaks, we are a 2nd round exit team with Strome as the #2 center

He wont be moved in-season for obvious chemistry related reasons, but i think Drury is prepared to move on in the summer. There will be better options available and the Rangers really can make the salary work for a replacement in the 6-8 mil range.

Exactly. What to do at the 2C position is a huge decision for this team and they have to get it right. He is not being moved this year and it's very possible both parties part ways during the summer. I think Strome has been undervalued by many here but I would be fine if they didn't sign him long term. The problem is what do they do to replace him and how much do they have to pay and/or what assets do they have to give up for that replacement. It's not an easy answer or it would have been done already. I think it's pretty apparent Chytil is not the answer.

For perspective, Strome is producing at the same clip as Stepan, who was the Rangers’ 1C during the last window. I know points aren’t everything and Stepan had a two-way game that Strome doesn’t, but I can’t help but feel Strome is becoming underrated around here.

Trading him now with 50% retention may be the best option. The pick they will get could be used in another trade. Would any team pay a first for him?

They cant afford to sign Strome to a lenghty contract. Covid and the flat cap has created a new reality.Rangers have to kick the can down the road. Trade for a center with a couple of years left. A Scheiffele or a Miller. In two years time, who knows which players will be available. I would not go to the playoffs with a player who knows he is on the way out. I would rather trade for someone who will be here next season as well. And the return from a Strome trade can be used in a package for that center. Maybe we can keep a good prospect that way.

Rangers is not gonna win the Stanley Cup this year. Why would you self rental someone in this scenario? Strome at 50 % should have to good value to not trade him. But of course you have to make another trade for a center.
