Wouldn't there be some sour faces if he got the C after his contract is extended.
Would be one of the greatest character development arcs in Rangers history. I was a huge Strome hater. Knew he had skill, but didn’t think he gave a shit about anything other than money. That, and his poor defense. We’ll see how it plays out, but one thing I can say for sure is that he cares now. If we are getting this Strome, sign me up. Also doesn’t hurt to keep Artemi happy. Happy Artemi goes a long way.

So, to revisit a past debate...

Where do Strome and Stepan rank against each toher? Has Strome surpassed Stepan?

If only Strome had Stepans 2way play, I'd be all for signing him. Offensively? I think Strome blows Stepan out of the water

If Gallant can unlock defensive mode Stromer to go with his o-zone game we have a player. Last night was the best Stromer I've seen working his D duties as he should be doing.

IMO if Stromer will take 5.5 you need to sign him...deal with the cap somewhere else, hes approaching a must sign if its in that range for me, the chemistry him and Panarin have will be impossible to recreate

Honestly I’d prefer Stepan over Strome still and that’s admitting Strome is better offensively by a bit but that’s with Panarin. And also not playing 1C duties like Stepan was. Step was a 55 point C playing great 2 way hockey

Stepan was a more well rounded player. Strome is a better offensive player.

Stepan also got all the tough defensive assignments.

Overall I’d give the edge to Stepan, but his lackluster skating also caused a steep dive later in his career. I think it’s pretty close to be honest. Stepan was probably better for that team while Strome fits better on this one with Panarin.

Strome gets a hell of a lot more criticism for being a similar caliber player.

It's just not that easy. Even at a discount the rangers would have to force a big move to make this happen which could leave us weaker. They would also open up Kakko to getting offersheeted and have to hope he signs a favorable bridge deal with the rangers.

When I look into the future of this team I see one that should not be having too much trouble producing. We need to identify the next Danault more than we need a center in the mold of Strome. Luckily for the rangers defensive type centers are usually less expensive. Mika can take over Strome's role next season with Panarin and Kakko can run the matchup line with a more well rounded center than Mika or Strome. We already have two puck hungry wingers that the coach separated in Panarin and Kakko. As Kakko gets better, more confident, and stronger he will hog the puck even more. We just need responsible centers. They will be cheaper and the rangers can afford better depth and depth is key in the playoffs. The rangers wingers are their best forwards. They will make their centers better just like Panarin has done with Strome and Kakko will do with his future centers.

People on this board have decided Strome is bad defensively, its not true, its just another thing someone said and now its gospel repeated by people that dont like him. The only complaint i have about him is his faceoffs and if he's making 5 mill its a steal.

I hate Ryan Strome. I loved Step.

Strome is a better defensive player today than Stepan is. That’s not even factoring in offense

I dont think he's bad defensively per se but floaty and lazy about getting back/into position.

He has the IQ/vision to be a good 2way center. The willingness may not always be there

The better comparable for Ryan Strome is Derick Brassard imo.

We just haven’t seen Stromes playoff game yet.

I thought about that before your post. I think you’re on point. The postseason has yet to be seen but I do think Strome is better than what Brassard was.

I think it says something that he was compared to Stepan first who was clearly our 1C.

it may be true but if that happens they are going to trade Chytil for a more defensive 3rd line C

it also may be a necessity to play Barron next year because they need to save on the cap

This is exactly the succession plan I would envision. Barron starting off as 4C or even getting a look at 3C on the kid line with Gaut and Laf. Goodrow can be that defensive centre...and we need him to considering we've paid him handsomely

Unless Chytil steps up big time the rest of the year, what is the other option besides the Stormer? He would probably take a discount to remain with Panarin instead of going elsewhere and becoming an immediate major disappointment who gets booed by the fans.

Just came in to show some appreciation for Stromer. Great production, sticks up for his teammates, clicks with our best forward and a leader of the team. This guy is a stud for us. Tired of all the hate!
