You can't use tough love for EVERY ****ING PLAYER. As is so Julien, he didn't adjust. Ryan Spooner has looked so, so, so much better under Cassidy. Think that has something to do with Bruce expressing some confidence in him verbally? Sticking him out there on the PK? Giving him freedom in the offensive zone?

Frighteningly, it feels like there is a demographic of posters that wanted this team to "go down with the ship" i.e. Julien, instead of making a change. Now, the new guy is succeeding and I'm still seeing this rhetoric around the board from some as if the Bruins CLEARLY made a bad decision. I just don't get it. Was Julien NEVER allowed to be fired because he won a Cup? Because he WAS, for a time, successful? Because of the history he had with the team?

It's been an interesting couple of weeks. I genuinely feel I don't watch the game nearly the same way as some of you. I truly don't get too attached to players, or coaches, etc. I just want to see a consistent and competitive ALL-AROUND team. That's what I'm getting now with Cassidy. That isn't something I saw in probably 3.5-4 years from Julien's team.

Strong post.

Excellent post. You are right, people become too attached to players and coaches, and with no good reason.

I get what your saying but im pretty sure you we are never going to hear spooner cost me my job or any talk of Spooner from Claude now.

I highly doubt anyone is going to ask Claude about Ryan Spooner.

But given the team's success lately, it's an obvious question to certain guys on the team who seem to be thriving under Cassidy about what has changed for them. He answered honestly. Kind of refreshing, to be honest.

Coaching decisions have been questionable far too long last 3 years. I remember some folk here proclaiming if it weren't for the incredible coaching talents of one Coach Julien this team wouldn't be anywhere near a playoff position...well I guess the opposite can be said now, had Julien been released 2 years ago the bruins would have/should be easily in a playoff position.

We get attached to players and coaches simply because as fans we want them to succeed in hopes that it helps the team. This isn't something we can tune out. Impossible.

He was a coach that won a cup, almost 2,but that was surrounded by 8 complete failures.

Fair enough you like to hear people take parting shots I will say I prefer how Kessel handled it by saying nothing or simply compliment your new coach. I certainly wouldn't want them to lie but to me it is more classy to stay quiet . And for the record Julien said he has far too much respect for everyone in the bruin room when asked about the bruin-hab rivalry . He said he plans on keeping it alive but on the ice only.

Oh wow that is just completely laughable . As much as I am happy with the start Cassidy has had I will be absolutely thrilled if he can take us the same places Claude did in his time here .

That will never be known different league and different players. Be interesting to see if Cassidy could have brought in another cup or 2...we will never know.

This statement is comparable to "Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?", and just as absurd. :shakehead

Kessel used robot language...i think we all get that. Spooner voiced his opinion. I respect Spooner way more than that hockey talk typical language. Heck Claude wasn't afraid to hold back what he thought of Spooner (note - never a vet) why can't Spooner?

I don't know what goes on behind closed doors, but in my opinion, you don't say that publicly.

You don't like the coach, or you feel he didn't like you. Fine. Keep it to yourself, or within the team. Leave it there.

But you are sure he would've done at least as well. You guys are really quite funny at times . I hope I see some Stanley cup final games and coach of the yr votes etc .

I will tell you a secret if Cassidy and Sweeney get in a huge fight today and he gets fired he isn't getting 5x5 somewhere else .

The start is great and as I have already admitted due to the results it was obviously the right move for us this yr but I think your idea that one guy is the greatest of all time and the other sucks is funny .

The era is over now the guy is gone . Lets face it, it isn't really a big deal but for a guy who is far far from an established great player yet to take a shot at someone who despite the fact you don't know it is a well respected established coach isn't the right move in my eyes.

Spooner doesn't strike me as the brightest bulb.

Zero upside to saying something like this publicly.

Want to have that conversation with Cassidy? PERFECT.
Want to have that conversation with Sweeney? PERFECT.

Get asked a question by press on this topic? "I'm really enjoying the new system -- think it's well suited to the game I play and we're having success. I might have been kind of tight in the past, but it's all going well now for me. Regardless our focus as individuals and as a team are on the playoffs."

Fred Toucher said he's been told Julien didn't just dislike Spooner professionally, he didn't like him personally.

Fred doesn't make up ****, but obviously we don't know who he heard that from. Still interesting to hear someone near the team thinks that's true.

The comments don't bother me and I like Claude.

It would bother me if he said these things publicly while he was still the coach. I don't think what he said was untrue. Nor do I think he's the type of player who has a habit of bringing his woes to the media. Seems like quite the opposite. If my memory is correct, however, Claude had criticism multiple times for Spooner he chose to share to the media.

I think Clode criticized Spooner after he scored 2 goals in a preseason game vs the habs.

Spooner had been the best player on the ice. Julien ripped him after the game more than he ever ripped another Bruin during his time here. It was ****ing bizarre and most of us were ******** about it.

I think it's clear that despite his personal feelings Spooner always said the right things about his coach. These are some pretty tame comments considering the sentiment behind them, so not sure I understand the outrage from some.

Wish some people held Julien's absurd comments about Spooner over the years to 1/10th the standard they're holding Spooner to now.

im sure haggs just kept badgering him with questions to try and get this response..spooner seems like a soft spoken guy so im sure he was trying to answer politely but honestly.. and he's right .. we all knew it.. claude didnt like the type of player he was. i hope he has continued success and i have no problem with him saying this.. boston media (and us) will drive this quote into the ground and im sure spooner will regret that . still doesnt make it untrue
