He has been impressive since Cassidy came back. Him and Hayes look like new players.

I still don't think he's solidly there as a player to build around, for all his skills. After the season, trade while his value is high.

This: I say he should be on the trade block for the right price . Do not see him as anything more than a power play guy ,that hurts you 5 on 5

Brian Heyward, color guy on the Ducks' broadcast, was really impressed with Spooner during the Ducks-Bruins game. Impressed by his speed and skill.

As good as I want to feel about an opposing fan/announcer seeing something in Spooner, it also strikes me that I think he is just seeing the same thing a lot of us did years ago. A very gifted and crafty player. Smooth skater and good offensive instincts.

But somehow...still able to leave you just short of satisfied on more nights than not. I pretty much know how I feel about every player on this team. I still can't quite figure out where I stand on Ryan Spooner. I really see his speed and elusiveness as useful for this team (now even more so, with Cassidy at the helm), but I've been so let down on so many nights by his overall effectiveness. Not sure how much longer I should really be on the fence.

I'd keep him as a PP specialist for the right price. I would say 3-4 mil range, but that may be less than he wants to take.

Spooner's the kinda guy who makes the game fun to watch. I get excited every time I see him lead a rush much in the same way I would become giddy whenever Samsonov touched the puck because you knew you were about to see some dazzling stickhandling.

Spooner has a spot on my team all day. Warts and all, he can be a great 3rd line center/PP specialist for this team going forward. I'd happily sign him at anything short of $4 million. We can't afford to let the young talented speedsters leave. Granted, he's no Seguin but he's also no Beleskey/Hayes/Nash, etc.

I think an accurate comparable is Peverley. A skilled, speedy 3rd line center who can step up and play on the top line as a winger when duty calls (Peverley was a huge factor during our cup run when he was able to replace Horton on the Krejci line seamlessly).

Jack said something I hadn't heard in a while last night in the third period: "Spooner wins a huge defensive zone face-off!" Good for him. He played well and he was willing to get in there physically against a big, heavy team.

Somehow I never thought of that, but I agree. Good comparison.

As long as Spooner doesn't miss the net as much as Peverley his last season here, I'll remain at least moderately happy.

He's a bit over 30% on the dot this season. For a 25-year old center, that's honestly incredible. At this point I'm more confident with McQuaid taking draws. He should practice face-offs in the summer every day until his knuckles bleed.

not sure it would help any longer. He`s been among the best, from Bergy to Doug Jarvis when he was here who, if they couldn`t get him to improve, not sure anyone can

It's obvious that Cassidy doesn't trust Spooner enough with the face-offs.

nor should he

He's certainly a train wreck at the dot. For now Cassidy's been able to have others take faceoffs for Spooner but that can't last. And his inability to take faceoffs has to dampen his trade value too.

I may have mentioned this before but I really would like to see him switch positions with Backes. We'd need to find a more dynamic 3rd line RW to replace Hayes (maybe Schaller is worth a shot) but a Marchy-Bergy-Spoons line could be excellent; I think they played together for a couple of games last year and looked electric. I worry that Backes slows the play down a bit too much, which anchors Marchy. This would also allow us to avoid the Spoons faceoff problem.

Late in games, we could always revert back to Marchy-Bergy-Backes as a shutdown line.

It's baffling that with Krejci, Bergy and Moore all down the middle (that Backes guy was pretty good a faceoffs too) that he can't learn from them and be good enough to win more than 40%.....

Claude did the same thing, and people *****ed that he wasn't using spooner or any of the kids right.

He completely misused Spooner, playing him on the wing or on the 4th line. He belongs at center; this is where his talents ( speed and playmaking) are best served. Just because he is weak at faceoffs, dosen't mean he can't play center. Julien's treatment of him and some of our other talented young players was shameful at times compared to the lifetime of free passes he would give to the vets.

awful on the dot and struggles with responsibilities that come with being a centerman in his own zone, that hasn`t changed under Cassidy.
