Ryan Reaves hit on Darnell Nurse. 5 min major + ejected (upd. Suspended 5 games)

It’s a conundrum. How does the NHL take predatory hits out of the game when some plug can target an impact player and end up getting no worse than a 3-5 game suspension. Is suspending Reaves even a detriment to the Leafs?

It's certainly not the burn some think it is.

Consent to a shoulder to the head? Hahaha

Who would ever consent to receiving any hit?

Nurses only say in that play was to keep his head up. That doesn’t justify the hit to the head but if Reaves went shoulder to shoulder and Nurse got hurt the only person to blame would be Nurse.

Simply because he rounded the net like a beer league d man
…that’s the point. That’s why you can cheer for a fight and not for this type of hit. Consent.

And no. He was hit in the head because someone with a limited skill set set out to blow him up and did it wrong. That’s 100% on the meathead who did it wrong. 6” to the left and this discussion doesn’t occur.

I find the people who defend the guy making the legal hit by saying that the other guy us at fault for not looking up unworthy of being taken seriously. Having a target that isn’t trying to avoid the hit makes screwing the hit up even that much more egregious. Aim better.

Not enough, especially since Reaves offers nothing else but goonery. But at least it’s more than the whopping 0 I expected Parros to dole out.

More than I expected and less than I wanted. Leafs losing Reaves doesn't derail them. Us losing nurse is a big problem.

Last night was an unmitigated disaster lol

A) I didn’t say it was legal. He got suspended and I think that’s right

B) If he hit Nurse 6inches to the left and Nurse was injured the discussion would be that it was a clean hit and the meathead would be Nurse

C) what Nurse did in A and B was exactly the same. Nothing good. Head down so long he looked like a beer league d man.

So to say he had nothing to do with the actual incident is wrong. I’m sure he’s blaming Reaves AND blaming himself too.

As he should.

Suspending Reaves doesn't hurt the Leafs at all.
Has it ever been about hurting the team? Or the player?

George will get the Leafs again this year, have patience. I think they lead the league again in supplemental discipline this year as they do most.

So a guy delivers a hit. Doesn’t argue about being thrown out.

Goes to the guy he hit and apologises.

And then people here have the balls to call him a plug all while they know they wouldn’t say a single word to his face.

Classic online heroes.

Like Sloan said in Coax me….its not the band I hate…
Quoting Sloan lyrics? That's worse than a blind side hit to the head.

Mods need to suspend this guy for at least 6.

Maxmimum suspension without appeal. Makes sense, but the whole system needs to be revisited in the CBA negotiations because it's just not stern enough to keep these hits from happening.
These hits will ALWAYS happen. You could suspend them for a year, it won't matter. It's a fast paced game and it's impossible to fully prevent them as long as hitting is allowed. It's the horse all players rode in on.

People can whine all they want about Reaves being a plug, but he's a really good hitter, and despite 15 years in the league he's only been suspended three times. That is pretty reasonable given the way he plays.

Sometimes the NHL moves extremely slowly and then sometimes, like this, they hand out a 5 game suspension roughly 20 hours after the hit happened.

It’s not like they were pushed by the Leafs having another game or something. They don’t play until Wednesday.
