Im not expecting Poehling to be a star, just a very solid contributor all over the ice, unlesss you consider a guy like Jordan Stall a star player...
Danault already contributes solidly all over the ice. So, while Poehling may end up a little better, the same, a little worse, or a lot worse, I don't see how we can logically say it is "sure" that he has better tools.

It's just potential at this point. Nice potential.

I don't think it's likely he'll be better than Danault. Danault is a bit underrated around here imo.

I think Poehling may have better vision (passing) than Danault, but in the end, I do see them as potentially similar players. 15 goals, 30-35 assist (50 point) guys

So in other words another Danault. And to be honest from what I've seen of Poehling we should thank our lucky stars if he develops into another Danault. I'd say the chances are pretty slim if develops into a better player than Danault. PD is pretty much underrated in this forum.

in all seriousness Maybe Poeling or Danault can be traded it all depends if we go full rebuild mode or not.. ahhh with this organisation nothing is ever clear..
obviously I love Poehling but he is not a lock at top 6. more likely the same ass Danault a potential dream 3th liner we could maybe still sale his offensive potential just like we could believe in it ourselves.. its a gamble either way.

whoever has more value and get a great defenseman or a great offensive talent.. while value is quite high. add more if needed.

just my 2 cents.

Philippe Danault was NOT a superstar at the junior level. In fact, his scoring abilities were pretty much limited. He was known for his hard work and intelligent positioning, that's how he accumulated points, but not for his offensive prowess. No one expected Philippe Danault to become the player he did. In fact, some would say that after his draft year, there was disappointment in his developpement. Thus the reason the Hawks traded him. To them, he was nothing more than a fringe NHLer, 4th line at best.

Poehling has that going for him better than Danault : he played against men; he played at the world juniors and shone; and he's a much better skater than Danault.

It's tough to measure the ceiling of a NCAA player, TBH. Just look at the guy Ottawa drafted last year. He was a miserable NCAA goal scorer, and guess what : he's up to 20 already in the best league in the world.

The disappointing part in all of this is the fact that him and his team folded like a cheap tent two years in a row against a puny adversary. Was it because of a lack of leadership on the ice or a lack of strategic coaching?

As i said in my previous post, Danault is underrated around these parts seriously underrated. To be honest I never bought that nonsense about playing against adults. I'm an adult and I wouldn't give any kid credit for playing well against me. You know why? I suck. Likewise Most of the men Poehling played against wouldn't cut in the ECHL

With my viewing of Poehling I'd say his ceiling is Danault but I seriously doubt he will achieve that ceiling. Maybe I'm biased. I really like Danault.

I followed Danault's junior career and it wasn't very stellar. He was a Cormier-clone to me. Nothing more. This was not Claude Giroux in the making here.

I never said he was. He's a Bergeron lite. And Bergeron is one of my favourite players maybe that's why I like Danault.

yeah maybe. Or maybe Danault has played over his head this season (as the numbers seem to indicate by a wide margin). We'll see next season. I believe he can be a very good third line center. I like him in that role.

Problem I see with Danault is that he does believe he's a 1-2 center. He's not a 1-2 center on a contending team. This team should be able to contend in two years from now, if they stay the course (and change coaches!). He should be 3rd. An excellent 3rd, mind you. I see Domi and KK being 1-2 in two seasons from now. Maybe not in that order.

Poehling will start in the AHL for one season, and come as a very capable 4th line centre in 2020.

I also see Danault as a #3 which is what I believe Poehling will level off at.

Show me the last #3C who put up over 50 points with no PP time facing the other tesm top line every game.

Hell, when Washington acquired Eller everyone said (including Wash GM) that he was the perfect 3C and the guy topped out at 30ish points.

Last year everyone called Kadri a 1B yet he barely got 60 pts (with ~20 of them on the PP)

I’m not sure what the problem is around here on Danault. He’s having a spectacular season and really took a big step both offensively and defensively. I give credit where credit is due and Danault should get way more praise than he does right now.

You realize you are preaching to the choir, right? I like Danault a lot but on a true contender Danault is a #3. Then again you can throw at me the fact that DD was a #1 in the NHL.

Well, I look at other teams C’s and honestly, unless they’re insanely deep at C, Danault would be 2C on more than 70% of current playoff teams (all of them in the west).

Danault would be 2C in Winnipeg, Nashville, Calgary, Vegas, St-Louis, Dallas and Colorado with the first 3 considered real contenders. Only SJ currently have 2 more productive C in their lineup with none who has more ES points than Danault does

Yeah you do, but he doesn't. He sees himself as a 1st or at worse 2nd. Said so himself. NOthing wrong against being confident. But he needs to see where he really fits. Not so sure he does.

He did it once, this season. Look at his past. Nothing warrants us to believe he'll do it again. In fact (and it's a fact), unless he's the exception to the rule, players follow certain patterns in their careers, from Juniors/collegiate levels to the NHL. You don't become a 60 point guy when you never/rarely did it at lower levels. It just doesn't happen that way. Danault never did it regularly as a pro. Ever. Look at his AHL numbers. They were mediocre at best. McCarron-style numbers.

He's now 26 years old. I'd say that 'le passé est garant de l'avenir' in his case. Most probably is having a career season. He's a solid, solid 3rd liner.

Never. Stats tend to say that he's having a career season. He's a 30-40 points guy over his pro career. Which is pretty solid for a 3rd liner if you ask me.

I don't see the negativity in there. I mean, if your centre line in 2020-2021, is composed of KK-Domi-Danault, it's pretty good.

He was drafted in the first round because he always had talent.

Gallagher is one year older than Danault, yet last year had his best year, followed by an even better year this year.

I'm not saying Danault will score 60 points without playing the PP, but if he does that would make him one of top-5 ES centres in the league. As it is right now, he is top 30. with 50 ES points.

Yes, it's great to have a good second line center on your third line!!

That could be a problem come signing a new contract. Until then it doesn't matter if he thinks he can walk on water.

What I see is an outright liar.

Danault has had three seasons as a full-time NHLer.

1st season 40 points.
2nd season heading for 40+ points got concussion ended at pace of 40 points.
3rd season pace of 52 points.

What an outright LIAR saying his history is 30-40 points. A few games per year at the beginning of his career don't count today, and you know it.
