Proposal: Ryan Miller to LA

Why would the Canucks want to help another Pacific Division foe solve their goaltending woes when they're trying to beat them out for a playoff spot?...Besides, the Kings are in a cap-quandary....no way they could fit in Miller unless the Canucks were willing to take Dustin Brown's albatross contract back again. No thanks.

My Apologies.

Seems fairly reasonable for cap relief in taking on Miller, but I don't think Benning wants Greene.

It is Benning though, but knowing him, I don't even think he'd wanna even trade Miller at all.

He's definitely cooked. Gun to my head, I'd rather re-sign Schenn for a million or less per and buyout Greene.

That's not a vote of confidence at Schenn, just that I think he's the lesser of suck.

First ty for the apology and gladly accepted. :) It could be worse i could be suggesting brown lol who i think could be of interest to your gm He would think his experience would be helpful in getting your team to the playoffs ( i don't think hes the smartest gm ) I will be spending most of the winter on the island taking care of my father (suffered a stoke) so i listen to a lot of Vancouver stuff on the news I wish your team the best in the season except against la of course :)

I don't think miller is your best goalie to be honest i would play markstrom over him but that s just me. If your sold on your team actually contending than i aint going to p in your kool aid I wish you the best in that area because i think ur more in a nolan patrick race then a cup race

Markstrum is still not ready to take on #1 goalie duties. Close, but still needs another season or two. Also the Canucks like to dress 2 goalies perferably on a 55/45 % split. That leaves both goalies rested enough to have a chance to get past the first round.

Even more important is that Demko and Garteig are not ready for NHL duties even in a limited backup role & Bachman is not much better. That would end up requiring Markstrum to play 70 ganes and that is asking a lot in today's NHL. With both Miller & Markstrum playing a 55/45 % split as well as they are, the Canucks do have a reasonable chance of making the playoffs. With a Markstrum & Bachman tandom they will not.

If the Canucks are seen to definately going to miss the playoff & Miller has continues to play at the level he is playing at right now, at the trade deadline he should bring at least a late round pick. I don't see a contending team offering a player in return as such a player may be needed during the playoffs.

which is why budja is included in the package going back Markstrom could play 55 -60 and budja plays the rest :) Who do u think he would be traded to ? Only way he gets a first is if someone gets hurt at the trade deadline. Slim odds of that even then doubt he get a first a 2nd maybe if a team is desperate Still other options at deadlline bishop ward come to mind

If you think Miller is going to return to last season's a 36 year old goalie coming off a 17 win 24 losses 2.70 gaa season then he os not worth LA trading for him. truth is so far in this pre-season & season he is back to his cup contender form. I still like having a Miller/Markstrum combo to give the Canucks a chance to make the playoffs.

A 1st is pushing it but a goalie of his quality & playoff experience will have enormous value at that part of the season. Benning has built up the Canucks to a decent team this year. The Canucks now will start to concentrate more on picks rather than bodies.

Wasn't Greene just put on unconditional waisvers by LA in prep to buy out his contract?

CBSSports.com:

Matt Greene: Set for buyout by Kings
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(6/30/16) Greene (shoulder) was placed on unconditional waivers by the Kings on Thursday for the purpose of buying out the final two years of his contract, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Greene missed all but three games recovering from shoulder surgery with no clear sign of whether he will be back to full health for 2016-17. Consequently, it comes as little surprise that Los Angeles wanted to get rid of his $2.5 million cap hit for the next two years. The 33-year-old has been hampered by injuries in the last few seasons, which could limit his ability to find a team willing to give him a shot.

its a 2nd and greene and budja for miller at 40% off You need to go back and reread my friend

Don't want Greene at all, swap him out for King and make it 50% for RM, then that is more enticing to help your team this year.

Budaj scares me to have as a backup with his lack of NHL experience after his stint with montreal way back in 2014, but he's a vet I guess ha.

Thought the general notion from you guys was that the team isnt that good and headed for a rebuild anyway? Keep seeing posts about the nucks trying to make the playoffs. Wont they almost automatically get shellacked in the first round anyway? Tanking could be a good idea. Obviously not what is exciting as a fan but really thought the general opinion on here atleast was nucks are trending downward?

There are 4 groups in Canucks nation the loudest ones are the haters, every team has them, but the Canucks one is pretty loud, due to years of disappointment and zero stanley cups, hence the riot jokes, the vastly immature / panic button type fans :p These guys/gals believe we are going to get 1st overall pick next draft and every player "sucks", they talk like Donald Trump typically and in every thread/tweet/fb post they happily poke fun at every move the canucks do.
Motto is: Hate first - maybe eat crow later.

Then they're the realists who dissect moves and the plans of the team, analysts, they got the forecast on players, they understand why certain moves are made but they have taken the wait and see approach, the calm lurkers, they are pretty chill rather than over-react after every move JB has made.

Then there are the realist/optimists, which I'm a part of. :D
Instead of thinking of doom, I think of hope, and where I can respond to your question. This has been said a lot but I'll reiterate, with the Sedins here & if they are healthy it's pretty difficult to tear down, they are the hardest workers and their laser focus every year no matter what is to win the Cup in Vancouver, that's their goal.
I believe they got one good run left in em to try to win it, they are not spring chickens anymore, but if you watch them play, they can wiz around defense's still with unknown moves/passes. The Canucks problem has always been a lack of secondary scoring, so it's nice to see the young guys step up so soon *knocks on wood* players like horvat, baertschi, maybe rodin and notably Markus Granlund who had a great preseason and is still playing solid in these 3 regular season games, an all-round type surprisingly, has good backchecking skills and is always creating scoring chances up front. Granlund actually leads the team in positive way with advanced stats.
This is on top of Eriksson, Hansen and Sutter (whom is showing why he was missed last season).

The biggest improvement over last season is getting a strong top 4 defense with:
Edler - Tanev
Hutton (QB) and Gudbranson.
Guddy allows Hutton to play on his natural side and can be like all the other QB types and cheat up front.
Sbisa as a depth guy is decent, hits like a truck, then there is the depth QB in Larsen, but I suspect Stecher takes his spot pretty quick.

We are pretty solid in net with Ryan Miller and Markstrom, but to get back on topic, if Markstrom can play a #1 guy already, he's at a good age for that I wouldn't be opposed to trading Miller if it made sense, as having both goalies is way better than putting all your eggs in one basket so to speak, as look at the Kings scrambling to find another goalie after Quicks long term injury.

oh yeah 4th group are the forever optimists - fluffy group just as psycho as the haters.

A lot of Van fans want a scorched earth rebuild. Management (by way of ownership) have come out this season and basically mandated playoffs or else...

So Van fans will continue to live in mediocritic purgatory

On HF there is a very vocal group that hates Canuck management (known as the Haters composed mainly of armchair GM's & Couches upset that the Canucks don't trade, draft & coach their way) & wants the team to tank (I don't know of many atheletes who like to lose and are willing to tank). Last season the tankers accidentally got some of their wish when almost all of the team's top players had long term injuries & lacking depth, the team totally colapsed, but they are starting this season almost injury free.

On the other side of the fence are management & the non-hsters. Management is not willing to tank or totally rebuild from scratch. They are willing to retool and have been sucessfully doing so with a goal this season to make the playoffs and develop a team attitude that losing is unacceptable. They have a second goal to retool the team by drafting or trading to make the overall team younger, but mainly to change the team to a faster skating, defensively stronger & difficult to play against team.

So yes the Canucks are a far better team than the Haters try to present and unless they are hit with an equally disasterous parade of key player injuries, they should make the playoffs & with an attitude that they aren't just there to be rolled over in the first round. The team is very strong in goal and has improved the quality & depth of their defence. The team's weakest area is a shallow depth of quality forwards should their first string forwards be injured. Thoughness & the ability to stay away from injury is very important to survival in the Pacific Devision.

The price for Miller starts with a 1st....

Especially if we are eating half of the contract.

You guys need Miller and he is the best option and the cheapest to trade for. Can you imagine the price for Bishop? And Miller will probably re-sign there for a haircut to remain close to his wife and family

No way do we take Brown or any other useless contract.

A 5 million dollar total, 2.5M cap hit for 2 years is worth more than 1 2nd round pick a mediocre AHL goalie and still having to give up the one of two NHL goaltenders the Canucks have. Especially if the Canucks are being expect to retain 2-3 million cap/salary of Miller.
I'd want at least a conditional pick tagged on rob Greene and his games played amount. Healthy enough to play pro hockey for the next 2 seasons and he amasses 60+ per season, Kings give nothing. He plays less than 40 in either of the next two years or misses due to health Kings give another 2nd based on any of the next 4 Drafts. Kings choosing.
This would force Vancouver to continue to spend to the cap, owner wants playoffs? Well it's gonna cost him maximum cap space every season. Kings get a goaltender for this season, hope for the playoffs with a better deeper squad than Vancouver to cover for the drop from Quick to Miller. Costs them a future piece that could hurt, or they could win it big and not care.

first thing first his name is Matt Greene not rob Next if the condition is on his health not on his ability to play fine but if hes healthy to play and you scratch him it still counts as a game Next bring the 2nd down to a 3rd and i would be fine with it

There is no deal to be made. Canucks have stated playoffs however real or un realistic it seems is their goal.

Thus, trading Miller to a division rival, who was expected to make the playoffs, because their number one guy is out for 3 months makes no sense. This would be the canucks chance to move ahead of la.

Time to close the thread.

If the canucks even entertain this notion, we would need to be mathematically eliminated pretty early. Mgmt last year waited until the very last second on Hamhuis, like the same week when we were eliminated or close to to begin exploring that option.

They have their eyes set on playoffs, nothing else. So don't think this gets done. And even if it gets looked at it will be too little too late and LA would have found another option.

hes not worth a top prospect or a 2nd without a cap dump going with it sorry

3rd and Budaj or 2nd greene and budaj for miller at 50 % or 40% with greene going

Sorry. LA is the team in need here and that 50% retain is all you'd get. I mean, you want to take a player without any effect to the cap whatsoever?

A 2nd and whichever back-up goalie is enough and LA should be rejoicing getting a starter that fits their time-frame/need for that.

You do not get a dump some of your rubbish on top of that.

hes not worth a 2nd period only reason i would go there is to rid some extra salary other wise its a 3rd and the backup goalie I don't see anyone offering better especially by the deadline where better goalies will be available but your going for the playoffs so may as well forget the whole thing

"Known as the Haters" :help: Holy ****.. What type of delusional nonsense is this post?

So I guess... everyone from EA sports to the Hockey Writers to these fans are all "The Haters". All who have predicted bottom 5 league finish.

The team isn't that good. Last year turned out almost exactly how many "Haters" guessed. If you want to refer to the people that view the situation realistically, let's also use a derogatory term for both sides.

We'll call yours the "Completely ****ing Delusional"

--------

To the matter at hand.. Canucks management says they plan to make the play-offs, but let's be reality. They have to say this regardless and know not making it is certainly a possibility.

Miller should be able to be had, but no dump and for no less than a 2nd. Should include a back-up.

Cool story.

I don't believe we are going for the play-offs.

Miller is certainly worth a 2nd+, and you haven't even factored in that the Canucks don't need to move him. The Kings are the one in need here.

Good luck with your goalie situation. Will be neat to see how far down the standings they'll go until the New Years.

You are not understanding we as canucks fans do not care if we walks for nothing.

The biggest value miller has is the full 6M off the books we have no need to move him for a cap dump. period end of discussion. we will retain 50% but beyond that it's not our problwm to fix your cap situation
