Player Discussion Ryan Lindgren

I'm quite sure it wasn't the only reason we lost last night, however, for anyone who thinks Lindgren is overrated, it is incredibly coincidental how often these types of results and performances occur when he is out of the line-up.
It's part how important Lindgren is but it's also part the trash that's going in for him.

We fall to 0-55-14 in games in which Lindgren doesn’t dress.
haha, such a weird narrative. He's a good player, tough, but the fact is we don't fall apart and its probably no different than any top line player being out.

Last year, frankly, we were pretty awesome without the blessed 55. (BTW I like Lindgren, he's a good defensive minded defenseman, but let's be reasonable).

Did the team disclose Lindgren’s injury?
They labeled it an upper-body injury, but gave nothing definitive. He likely got hurt on the blocked shot he took off the wrist from Tage Thompson that was getting looked at on the bench. Vince said that Lindgren skated yesterday and said he was fine when he was speaking to him after, so it probably isn’t serious.

I’d rather them be cautious in Game 2 than rush him back and cause him to be out for a long stretch early. I’d guess he’s back tomorrow for the home opener.

It is funny how we have gone from seemingly endless depth with prospects on D, straight to the cupboard being very thin.
Well we traded one (Lundvist), Robertson seems to have stalled out, Jones isn’t looking too promising as of late, and Schneider graduated. Teams usally go threw these phases. I wouldnt be suprised to see us draft a defenseman in the first round next June. Which would our first since Schneider in 2020.

We had a pretty good rate of guys make it to the NHL. With cap still stagnating in *checks notes* year 4 of the lockdowns, a lot of teams have a skeleton crew past 18. Hell, we spent a lot of last year where we weren't even making it to 18. A 23-man roster of NHL players costs more than the cap.

Didn't it look like he had a problem with his hand?

Without him, there's not much defense being played out of the LD position. Gus and Miller too, are more offensive minded. Missing Lindgren really hurts on the penalty kill. And add in that Jones isn't much of a replacement and makes Schneider worse. So, it's a lot of things that turn it into a disaster. In reality, his absence should not be this destructive.

We did absolutely need to start stock piling some forwards. I think the fact RHD was so blocked and therefore with the Lundqvist situation that played a big part in it, yeah.

Also, wasn't Robertson a Rangers second round pick - so is automatically cursed from day-dot-one ;-D

True, not exactly aided by a couple of the contracts we have in my opinion, but that's a whole other discussion.

I think your first sentence is bang on as the reason why, though, re. a thin cupboard. Key and Schneider making it to the team so quickly left a bit of a hole on 'top tier' D depth.

LOL....kiss that pick bye bye.....you just know that Drury will ship it out for a rental for a big Cup run once again .

Cuylle was a 2nd round pick and Sykora looks promising, so maybe the worm has turned in that regard.

Rangers miss more than they hit but I would not say the 2nd round is cursed for us. We've also drafted Anisimov, Stepan, Sauer, Dubinsky, and Tyutin in the 2nd. Everyone just remembers the Lindbolms, Gropps, Thomas, Lafleurs, and Halversons. Nieves was a 2nd and actually played NHL games. Werek traded for Lindberg = W. I think it's valid to say that drafting a goalie in the 2nd is cursed.

No doubt, but there was a significant gap there between Stepan and Cuylle.

Anisimov, Stepan, Sauer, Dubinsky and Tyutin were drafted between 2001 and 2008. And then we basically had nothing from the 2nd round until Cuylle was drafted in 2020.

Cuylle makes our 7th overall - highest draft pick since Moses was a boy - whiff slightly easier to handle. He looks a player!

This team can't figure out how to draft a top 10 pick.

Certainly more recently, although, I definitely had more teeth the last time we actually came out of the second round with anyone of significant note. And that isn't a ringing endorsement of our drafting.

Lindgren is a player needed. Not only is he a warrior in the defensive zone, but after the 5 on 3 penalty, he and Laf in the box, who was the one who hustled to get that puck in the offensive zone, the number 1 overall pick who is a forward or the defensive defenseman Lindgren. It was Lindgren

Perhaps it was the defensive defenseman who came out of the box first?

I just watched this part on the game replay. Both Laf and Lindgren penalized at 18:41 of the previous period. There are two players, one door. Simple physics. Lindgren probably exited first. The camera doesn't pan from the Rangers' own zone to neutral ice until Lindgren and Laf are both well out of the box. You're the voice of reason in this. I'm going to drink bleach.

Logic states when killing a 5 on 3, you tell your best PK to exit the box first and get into our defensive end quickly. Just so happens that the puck came out to the opposite blue line.

As soon as I saw this thread at the top, i knew someone had only come here to complain. Hilarious that this is the guy getting called out.
