Corey Pronman is hearing Ryan Johnson will probably sign with Buffalo.

Also hears that Portillo will probably NOT sign but thats nothing new.
Is that inside knowledge though or just repeating what Chad or the bloggers crowd said recently ? Just trying for realistic expectations.

Johnson has a very good shot at being an NHL regular here from the get go here in Buffalo

Anaheim is rebuilding
LA Kings he probably can't crack the line up.

He is from California thats why I mention those two teams.

You gotta love when two people can put something out there and claim they heard it from the other person but never point that part out.

The state of media right now.
I doubt Corey pronman is quoting chad ha ha - he’s a National reporter for the athletic…that would be the prospect equivalent of dreger quoting chad for a trade rumor. Pronman is pretty linked in, in the prospect world so would have real sources

I never said he was so I am not sure why you are quoting me, I was only characterizing Val James.

And yet he has played four years in Minnesota and a year in Sioux Falls.
Ok and? So he is going to sign in Minnesota? Is that what you are saying?

He went to the same school as his father. Now his father is in California. See the connection?

No. I'm saying the constant postulating on where he might go based on where he is from is scattershot and has been for some time. This thread is almost 2/3rds hand-wringing and very little about the player. It's tiresome. As was mentioned above, we will delete things that aren't about his play or actual articles about him.

How is pointing out that a national level reporter would be unlikely to use information from a blogger local to WNY as his only source of information on a particular player mocking? Take a breath. Chad does some good work and has had some success in getting some info. This isn't being critical of him for that.

just trying to break the never ending cycle of

Chad breaks Tage contract
people spend several months dismissing Chad and laughing him off
Chad breaks Cozens contract
people spend weeks dismissing him and laughing him off
Chad reported this a month ago
hahahahahaha Chad

and hey…maybe the national guy would have had this a month ago if he did talk to local bloggers

It's obvious he'll get traded to a team in California or go there as a free agent:

- Johnson is from Irvine
- Dad played for the Kings and Ducks
- Dad has been on staff with multiple California teams
- Drafted with 31st overall pick. California was the 31st state
- Dad was born in Minnesota, a liberal state. He attends the U of Minnesota. California is a liberal state.
- Dad played in Salzburg (sound of music). California is where music is produced
- Dad was drafted 33rd overall. Ronald Reagan was the 33rd governor of California
- Born in 2001. Rob Blake was traded in 2001 from the Kings to the Avs
- Ducks became a team in 1993. His father turned pro in 1993

It's all right there, folks. Read between the lines......

It's off topic, but there are people who don't like him and people who do. That's a sign he's doing some work - it takes effort to get both praise and dislike in the sports world.

In regards to this, it's encouraging to have another voice added on the pro side of things.

Woah I actually follow chad and like his work. I was just saying this is much more likely 2 separate sources and not just 2 people referring each other in a circular fashion as was suggested in the post I replied to. I doubt Corey Pronman is referencing someone like Chad but that doesn't mean chad doesn't have sources or that I'm mocking him!

What's this kid's realistic ceiling and floor? Is he a safe bet to be an NHL regular one day? How far away is he from playing in the NHL?

Very much an NHLer - a safe defensive defenseman with some sneaky good puck skills and excellent wheels. He might step in and work up to be a 4 for this team sooner rather than later. It's possible he spends very little time in the minors after turning pro, though some time to adjust and acclimate at the AHL level would be how I would lean. At least a quality third pairing NHLer who uses his physical tools (speed, stick, vision) to kill plays and move things into transition more than as a classic PMD (the type known for offense more than defense). He's a stout 190 lbs now at Minnesota, he's filled out well under the Gophers' strength and conditioning folks.

He's a left shot but has played a bit on the right side though not exclusively nor lately. He's the safety valve for Lacombe, the Gophers' top PMD. He plays the PK and when defending leads or looking for a checking matchup (though Motzko the head coach tends to just run through his lineup in many games since the Gophers are deep on all three pairings and all four lines).
