All of these kids in college went to college for an experience (dorm/apt living, elite facilities, maybe education, the college atmosphere, possibly family ties to a school).

Ryan Johnson went to school to make it to the NHL. He said so himself,

Looking at Dahlin, Power, and Samuelsson on the roster, I can see a 31st pick LHD taking a minute to think about it.

Any of you scouts out there have a NHL comparison for Johnson? I get the sense that he's in the mold of a Pysyk type of d-man (when we drafted him). Where he is a good skater, with high IQ and strong defensively with some offensive upside. I admittedly haven't watched him really at all though, so would welcome any opinions on what his upside might be.

Yep we have 16 months to sign him.

To me RyJo was CalPete before DeLe and ErPo. RyJo is still my CalPete and I wont be surprised if he rides out the whole process and becomes a UFA.

As mentioned we will get a 2nd, which is more than his trade value, if he is going UFA.

Adams mentioned its not a bad thing that he and portillo returned to school which feels like he’s getting in front of them for choosing to go back to school . Considering portillo chose to do just that, im assuming Johnson is too

Signing a guy off the reserve list and playing him is not a call up.
