I think that he thinks that Rob Johnson didn't get a fair shake here, and there's already a Sabres legend RJ and he doesn't want the comparisons.

Reactions: Dirty Dog
He's probably looking at the crowded blue line, with Dahlin and Power he will probably not see much Powerplay time, let alone get much time in the top 4 unless injury.

Still he should look at the Sabres to see what they are becoming.

I've said it before -- if he has doubts about whether he can make the roster, then we probably don't want him here.

Sabres D depth is SOOOO thin. Johnson would be practically guaranteed an eventual #1 pairing in Roch if he worked hard, or even 5/6 in Buffalo.

I guess he could be worried about being top 4, but he is so far away from that right now and it's not a realistic situation on any team in the NHL for him in the foreseeable future. He needs to worry about the pro game before he worries about playing 20+ minutes a night in the NHL. In fact, he probably still has room to grow in the NCAA.

I wonder if he looked hard enough to see what side Dahlin is on

if I was a prosorm I wouldn’t have interest in signing if I saw on the LD there was Dahlin, Power, Samuelson, and Bryson

if it instead was something like

RD Dahlin
LD Power, Samuelson

then there might be room there

if he thinks he can pkay RD he’d see there was room depending on how Buffalo drafts. If Buffalo drafts a RD in top 12 thrn that likeky pushes him down on the right side.

Granato is bending norms around RD/LD. Looks like he is grooming those three to play both sides. There is plenty of room for Johnson on this roster in two years.

So if college d-man are scared to compete with the current defense in place , we should probably steer clear of the Seamus Casey , Ryan Chesley types in the draft then , they are afraid to compete or lack the confidence in their abilities aka Ryan Johnson

Don Granato says they can even mix and match with Owen Power and Henri Jokiharju too.
Looking at rosters on CapFriendly - CapFriendly - NHL Salary Caps it seems there's a lot more players listed as playing both sides.

For those who wish that Jacob Bryson was just a little bigger, Ryan Johnson grants it. He's the same kind of skater and impossible to get around.

Not all players can play both sides.
Will Butcher at RD in practice.

Knock it off with the comments about other posters and stick to the thread topic - "Ryan Johnson"

Not just RyJo, but Faber and Lacombe are still undecided about pros or college I think.

If they all return to school, that team is loaded next year, they are adding Cooley and Chesley and Snuggerud.

Faber announced he is going back to play with the Gophers. Broz went into the transfer portal and Lucius signed with the Jets.

Not shocking.

EDIT - Lance's original tweet saying Johnson is going back to school was deleted and replaced with this "leaning" tweet. So, basically no news

3/4 guys who should come out going back is not good for multiple reasons. Development curves, setting back their timeline a year and two of them can walk right out the door. Portillo I don’t see joining since Levi will be taking the majority of the crease in Rochester and he can pick any other net opportunity. Which leaves Johnson. And spare me the “percentage of guys who sign with the team” rhetoric. Three guys who shouldn’t go back at this stage just did. Work on your percentages of that
