Oh hey, you DID re-read the thread. Maybe not the part about how the stats show Joey isn't a #1 C this season but that's ok.

If we go by only what folks have shown this season, there isn't a single NHL-quality anyone (at their present positions) on the roster or in this front office save maybe Boone Jenner, and we therefore need to trash or demote everybody. Singling out Johansen is absurd.

Fine, ditch the Stamkos comparison. $7 million AAV (which is what Overhardt initially wanted) of last year's $69 million cap is comparable to when Patrick Kane signed his 5 year/$31.5 million deal in terms of percentage of cap.

Hmm. A young, flashy All-Star scorer coming off of a career high season, with occasional attitude issues, and who thus serves as top-quality skill but ultimately structurally kind of supporting cast to mentally stronger but less productive leader types. Sounds like an excellent comparable to me.

Of course, Kane's career high season was definitely better than Johansen's, but that's why it's an initial ask rather than a final contract.

Johansen has played his worst hockey in 3 years and still has the second highest PPG among all of the CBJ this season. He was 16th in overall scoring in the league last year as a 22 year old. The previous year he had 57.5% more points than the next highest scoring CBJ forward (He had 63, Atkinson 40).

And a significant number of posters want to get rid of him:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

Personally, I would be up for moving Foligno, not Johansen at this point. When I watch every game, its Dubi, and Boone that are the leaders on this team. Foligno has been outright awful this season. Plus, in light of torts being named new coach, I'm sure he would like to have some insight into who is his captain. Between him, and Johansen, each having 1 goal for the season, thats the main reason our record is, what it is. Under Torts, the D has played good enough to win nearly every game weve played. Problem is, these 2, who are paid to score goals have been embarrasing this season. People can think what they want, but I have no doubt that conditioning is the main issue with this team. And it explains why Richards teams were garbage to start the season. Once the team played itself into game shape, the wins would start to follow.

Take out Nick's name and replace it with Sergei, and replace "score goals" with "save goals" and it's pretty much the same.

The CBJ ranks 21st in goals-for. Second (first being worst) in goals-against and goals-against/game. 12th in shots-against.

Funny that there's no Bobrovsky thread.

If Bob had been playing like an average NHL goalie to this point this season, then the CBJ would not be hopelessly out of playoff contention.

http://www.nhl.com/stats/player?rep...&season=20152016&gameType=2&aggregate=0&pos=G

63rd out of 66 in save percentage

5th worst GAA

I watch a guy named Brad Theissen who is the goalie for the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL. He's on contract to Lake Erie, so he's theoretically the 5th goalie in the CBJ system even though he's not under CBJ contract. He is playing much better than Bobrovsky this season. Bob would have a GAA north of 3 in the ECHL this season. He's been ungawdly awful all year.

When Johansen turns fully into Nash 2.0 and we get burned you'll be changing that tune. And you better believe I'll have this post bookmarked. :D

What would be worse, you being right and getting to crow about it (which no one has been able to do yet), or me being right and you getting a never-ending barrage of "I told you so"?

Easy: me being right as it would obviously not be favorable to the Jackets if Joey continues down the path he's on.

I understand that Bob has been bad, I pointed out on opening night that his softy from the wall was devestating for the teams confidence. Having said that, since Torts has come in, our defensive and goalie play have been much better. Bob started to play out of his slump, but you need your best offensive players to score goals , and Johan, and Foligno are not doing that.

I'm not excusing Nick's poor play, nor Johansen's, for god's sake. But you said them not scoring is the "main reason" for the team's record. I don't agree.

Bob gave up five goals in the last game. I mean, I guess if Nick scores on that one play, and on another, and Joey scores, they'd win. So yeah.

Not to be picky, but Bob gave up 3 goals last game (right?).

I started reading this because I have RJ on my fantasy team...lol

As a longtime fan of someone who has had 2 top centers for along time. You 100% do not trade him. Lets Torts whip him into shape and teach him how to play. For all the Torts hate around the league, he is a very good coach and players that have played for him freely admit that he has made them better, even though his methods are a little rough.

He showed up fat and out of shape.....not the 1st time we have seen it. However your previous coach had the sky is falling mentality and had no choice but to play him. Torts will get you guys turned around as you can already see starting to happen

Have faith CBJ fans, it will turn around.

I tend to agree, thanks for the post, and I think Joey will be a straight out beast on the ice the 2nd half of the season.

Not surprised teams are calling. I would love to hear some of the offers.

Considering the track record in big trades since February 2013 (which don't involve the other team being against the cap), I'm terrified at the thought.

Considering the track record in big trades since February 2012 (which don't involve the other team being against the cap), I'm terrified at the thought.
The Nash trade has been a huge boon for Columbus, if you consider that Nash is essentially the same player he was here, and we got two stabilizing centers at a time when competent centers didn't exist in Columbus.

I do agree otherwise, though.

Mistyped; should be February 2013.

The four big trades since then have been Gaborik in, Gaborik out, Hartnell in, Saad in. The latter two involved major financial concerns for the other team, the former two not so much.

I think, not necessarily unfairly, that because Joey has shown such immense talent people lump him into a leadership group and set expectations that he should act like a leader because he simply is the best player (and quite possibly the most talented in CBJ history). I don't subscribe to that theory and think Joey is someone that requires that constant push (as seen in media discussion and pushes form former HCTR and the front office) and thumb on him to continue to go.

Personally, I think he's having a rough patch with his play but it's not due to him being less of a player or anything more than something is wrong with him at the moment that hasn't been exposed or outed. Foligno on the other hand... He seems to be having a hard time adjusting on the ice to the added responsibility and coming off a big year he too may have unrealistic expectations from the fans and himself and simply hasn't fallen into playing "his game". I suspect when that happens this team starts to turn a corner again. Dubi hasn't changed and Boone, now healthy, is showing he can also be a leader. Foligno simply needs to adjust and get out of his own head at the moment and just play the game.

From my experience as a captain of a high level team I think Foligno is simply reacting to the tough start, doing too much and letting the expectations and his current short fall create a downward spiral. His team is following him because he is seen as a leader and they are all playing too individualistic trying to help get the team out - unfortunately only making the situation worse.

Sucks as a fan to watch this but I truly believe this is killing the guys in the room. I don't think anyone would deny this is not a 4-12 team on paper. The talent is there. The "team" is there. It's just not happening and someone needs to find out quickly what that is. It started with Bob's weak psyche to start the year (Ranger's loss REALLY affected him) and continued with the poor team defensive play and the fact we have no one capable of taking over from each area of the ice (Bob hasn't done it in goal yet, Defense hasn't shown any sign of a dominant player and the offense has been dysfunctional).

Probably not the post for here but just my thoughts on Joey and a comparison to others and the team impact.

thanks for this post, represents how I feel quite a bit. Right down to the Rangers loss affecting Bob

Also encouraging that according to our play-by-play guy, Joey said he likes Torts and thinks he'll make him a better player.

One big area of concern for me with Joey and the team is their faceoff percentage. This team has continued to decline the past couple years and Joey is around 48% which is the first time below 51% in his short career. He was above 52% the last two years and considered a good faceoff guy. The rest of the team has declined dramatically as well but it's an area I don't think gets talked about enough

If Bob is that much of a head case the Jackets are in big trouble. I say we send him to Dr. Phil.
