Wasn't that long ago there discussion of what a disappointment he was and the next thing to a bust.
Yeah.
Maybe somebody should make a mainboard thread about how he doesn't suck anymore?

Was it a coincidence that Johansen had a beastly game now that he's away from Umberger and Comeau/Foligno?
Sincere question, not rhetorical by the way.

Coming home from the game, my son said "remember last year you said Johanson is being wasted on a line with Umberger and Foligno."
I agree with you, he needs some skill on his line.
This isn't some new found discovery IMO. Anyone can see RJs lack of puck skills that lead to zero finishing. How many times is he given the puck only to cough it up in the offensive zone? He is a solid third liner that's it. Hopefully Foligno gets back soon because I'd prefer him with Gabby and Arty over RJ.
I can see why they want Johansen with defensive minded forwards. Not to take away from his monster game, but he's still prone to some bad gaffes. Case in point, that turnover on his first goal.
I prefer Foligno over Umberger as well, of course, but I think some of the Umberger hate I see like the above are more related to memories of Umberger than what Umberger is actually doing this year.
I don't think that's totally true. RJ is doing okay point-wise, but because he's been underwhelming for so many years in a row, all his mistakes are highlighted. He has been particularly cringeworthy offensively in most of the games this season. Tripping over blue lines, unforced turnovers, mishandling the puck. Is he the only one doing these things? No, but he is one of the veterans on the team, he has less of an excuse for sloppy play than the young guys.
When he's on the ice, he looks like he's more dangerous to our team than to our opponent.
He's clumsy, but I'm seeing him help out the team a lot more than he hurts us.

Reminds me more of a #71 that plays about 3 hrs east of here.
