Best forward on this team right now. Dubinsky. Second best? Johansen.

Best means all-around play, not skill.

Johansen is a beast and I agree with part of what Palinka said - Johansen is already one of the best defensive forwards in the league.

Was it a coincidence that Johansen had a beastly game now that he's away from Umberger and Comeau/Foligno?

Sincere question, not rhetorical by the way.

Not a coincidence. I'd describe his play for most of the year as beastly, the only difference is that the points pile up when he plays with scorers.

Richards looks like a fool for not giving him a chance before now in my opinion. All those lineup changes and you didn't once give the kid a chance to prove his worth with some real talent. I guess that changes now.

Sometimes #19 reminds me of #61 ..

I didn't want to say it, but I was thinking this exact thing last night. There was one play where he carried the puck in the zone, took it wide right and circled behind the net, protecting the puck from the defender with his body the entire time. Looked exactly like 61 on that play.

Coming home from the game, my son said "remember last year you said Johanson is being wasted on a line with Umberger and Foligno."

I agree with you, he needs some skill on his line.

I can see why they want Johansen with defensive minded forwards. Not to take away from his monster game, but he's still prone to some bad gaffes. Case in point, that turnover on his first goal.

This isn't some new found discovery IMO. Anyone can see RJs lack of puck skills that lead to zero finishing. How many times is he given the puck only to cough it up in the offensive zone? He is a solid third liner that's it. Hopefully Foligno gets back soon because I'd prefer him with Gabby and Arty over RJ.

I'd really like to see Horton on a line with Dubinsky and Johansen. 3 big 2way forwards that would be a handful offensively and defensively.

Dubinsky - Johansen - Horton

you could give, Atkinson, Anisimov and Gabby the bulk of the offensive zone shifts but Dubi, Johansen and Horton should be the #1 icetime line.

RJ is quietly having a fairly good year. 9 points in 16 games with 2 GWG.

I prefer Foligno over Umberger as well, of course, but I think some of the Umberger hate I see like the above are more related to memories of Umberger than what Umberger is actually doing this year.

He's still young... but overall improving at a good pace that appears to be a possible elite level... even the fan favorite Savard has had several miscues lately resulting in two healthy scratches...

I don't think that's totally true. RJ is doing okay point-wise, but because he's been underwhelming for so many years in a row, all his mistakes are highlighted. He has been particularly cringeworthy offensively in most of the games this season. Tripping over blue lines, unforced turnovers, mishandling the puck. Is he the only one doing these things? No, but he is one of the veterans on the team, he has less of an excuse for sloppy play than the young guys.

When he's on the ice, he looks like he's more dangerous to our team than to our opponent.

He's clumsy, but I'm seeing him help out the team a lot more than he hurts us.
