Biggest thing is has he given up?

I think that the cumulative effects of the front office miscalculations in dealing with him is that they've ripped the spirit out of the kid. His confidence appears shot and he doesn't have the enthusiasm he had even a few weeks ago.

Regardless of what one thinks of #19, it's pretty clear that they have failed in getting him to perform like they think that he is capable of performing. Their methods (JD, JK, and JT) have failed. Utterly.

So, many have "given up" on the 23 year old who was 16th in the league in scoring as a 22 year old. Last year.

"Given up" on a 23 year old, who, despite having been vilified, publicly called out, and humiliated by the worst management in the league has 1 point more than Ryan Getzlaf, 1 less than Sidney Crosby, and 2 less than John Tavares. Despite having physical issues and playing for the worst team in the NHL.

Great judgement.

Johansen is still likely to have far more shelf life left as a CBJ than the entire front office. If not, he'll still be in the NHL 10 years from now. John Davidson, Jarmo Kekelainen and John Tortorella will be answers to tough trivia questions by that time.

I think he's an amazing player and want him to retire here. I'm saying many on these boards want him traded

Didn't take your remark as you had given up on him.

I was just running with it.

I really hope that his agent lets the Jackets and the rest of the league know that he won't sign with anyone until he's a UFA. The Jackets deserve to get close to nothing for him given how they've treated him. Maybe they can trade him to Philly for RJ and Vinny.

No offense, but no one has failed but Johansen. He gets paid to do his job. It is that simple. Either you do it or you don't. On top of that, his job is to play a game. If he is to weak mentally to deal with this, then that is on him and he was never going to reach his potential. I'm sorry, but it is pathetic for anyone to makes excuses or feel sorry for a grown man making millions of dollars to play a game. It really is simple. He has the choice to play hard and well or to not. It his his choice and only his choice.

I've given up on him ever reaching his potential here. I think he can still reach his potential, but it probably will only happen in Vancouver.

I just feel like they challenged the kid and he's not living up to it. They told him, you want to be paid like a #1C, go perform. But like I said in a previous post they want character just as much as they want skill. If Joey was getting paid $7M+ right and the team was in last place Joey would be getting absolutely torn to shreds and Jarmo would be getting crucified even more than he already is, if that's even possible.

But suppose the argument could be had if he had been paid he could be acting differently and the team playing better but. We most likely wouldn't have Saad right now if we had paid Joey what he wanted.

I'll probably get torn to shreds, and maybe it's shiny new toy syndrome, but I'd rather build around Saad than Joey at this point. (Yes i know don't build around a wing blah blah blah) but character wise you can see how much more mature Saad is.

This is Foligno's 9th season. He has scored 30 goals once in his career. Hasn't really come close any other year. Is he a 30 goal LW?

:handclap::handclap:

Yeah. BARELY getting 70 points ONCE doesn't make you a 70 point center. It makes you a center who has scored 70 points ONCE.

He still has the potential to be a 70 pt center and likely will be. But he's not there yet.

So how do you explain his performance last year? Seemed pretty motivated and was raid the player he is this year. Especially the visible effort. Ryan has been a challenge to motivate since he made the team. All world talent but peewee effort.

No doubt. Also, I don't think he will do it here. He clearly needs to move on. I think he would be great in Vancouver. Good in some other places. Some places are just not a fit for him it doesn't appear and Columbus is one of them.

Fantasy hockey Joey has great stats still.
Real world Joey has been abysmal.

Lots of guys on the team have been called out or benched, none of them seem to be moping around on the ice.

I buy that completely. Some guys need a pat on the butt (or an atta'boy) to get them going and others need someone screaming at them. You do wonder if Joey isn't someone who needs to feel loved rather than constantly battled against?

Richards style of letting him continue to float wasn't loving enough?

I feel like Johansen has had it both ways and still been blah..

Were you around last year when Richards was his coach and he scored 71 points and made the All-Star team?

Are you aware one year at 70 points means jack squat when you follow it up with a year like this? Not to mention do you happen to remember if that 71 point year helped us into the playoffs?

Annnnd furthermore, making the All-Star teams means nothing these days besides that you might be from the hometown team and have a few fans.

Were you around? He floated through half that season too. Go look at the Johansen threads from last year and refresh your memory. You might even have posts on there where you're exasperated with Joey.

Yes, he scored 71 pts, but it was largely in similar fashion to this year, except with a couple breakouts where he found his legs. He could very well do that again this year. I wouldn't change my opinion of him - he's just a part-time non-team player.
