I think that the cumulative effects of the front office miscalculations in dealing with him is that they've ripped the spirit out of the kid. His confidence appears shot and he doesn't have the enthusiasm he had even a few weeks ago.
Regardless of what one thinks of #19, it's pretty clear that they have failed in getting him to perform like the think is his capable of performing. Their methods (JD, JK, and JT) have failed. Utterly.
Not me.
So, many have "given up" on the 23 year old who was 16th in the league in scoring as a 22 year old. Last year.
"Given up" on a 23 year old, who, despite having been vilified, publicly called out, and humiliated by the worst management in the league has 1 point more than Ryan Getzlaf, 1 less than Sidney Crosby, and 2 less than John Tavares. Despite having physical issues and playing for the worst team in the NHL.
Great judgement.
Johansen is still likely to have far more shelf life left as a CBJ than the entire front office. If not, he'll still be in the NHL 10 years from now. John Davidson, Jarmo Kekelainen and John Tortorella will be answers to tough trivia questions by that time.
I think he's an amazing player and want him to retire here. I'm saying many on these boards want him traded

I've given up on him ever reaching his potential here. I think he can still reach his potential, but it probably will only happen in Vancouver.
Even if he doesn't reach his "potential" what's wron with what he is now which is a 70 point center..
One, he isn't a 70 point center. Two, he won't allow himself to be paid like a 70 point center.
Really?

Correct me if I can't read, but this source is telling me that he had 71 points just last season. It also tells me that he's a center. That, by any reasonable definition, qualifies him as a 70 point center.
No, consistently having 70 pt seasons make you a 70 pt center. Hitting it once does not.
Yeah. BARELY getting 70 points ONCE doesn't make you a 70 point center. It makes you a center who has scored 70 points ONCE.

He still has the potential to be a 70 pt center and likely will be. But he's not there yet.

I buy that completely. Some guys need a pat on the butt (or an atta'boy) to get them going and others need someone screaming at them. You do wonder if Joey isn't someone who needs to feel loved rather than constantly battled against?
Richards style of letting him continue to float wasn't loving enough?
Were you around last year when Richards was his coach and he scored 71 points and made the All-Star team?
