I don't know. I tend to think it's just that it's too close to Dubinsky's deal and Johansen seems hung up on that 1st/2nd line thing.

I'm not even convinced this is bad advice from the agent. Johansen might be pushing this demand more then Overhardt.

So he should take the bridge, and earn his contract. No way you offer someone 6.5 mill for one good season, especially in light of his first 2 years and motivation issues.

All this does is show that the CBJ FO is willing to negotiate - both on term an AAV. If it's "not even close" to what KO wants, that it's showing Overhardt won't budge on anything. What a joke.

If this is what they feel he deserves they need to take it not turn it down. Feels like petulance to me.

I also think releasing the numbers is petty.

Basically I'm on nobody's side right now but I'll lean a little more towards management than Joey because he hasn't earned his big contract yet.

Releasing the numbers clearly turns public opinion to the CBJs favor, and against Johansen for turning it down. It also gives pause to any NHL team even remotely thinking about offer sheeting him.

It's interesting that IHZ is the one defending Johansen the loudest because this kid is starting to remind me of Nikolai Zherdev.

I was mainly commenting on the position that he doesn't want to be part of what the Jackets has to offer (not completely sure what that means).

I'm beginning to think this has less to do with the Jackets and more ego with Johansen. I'm begging to wonder if this is less Overhardt and more Johansen.

Humor me....why do people think it's a bad thing that the numbers are being made public?

because the front office are publicly shaming ryan johansen, trying to make him look bad. not a great thing to do to a kid who is the future of the franchise.

Recent tweets regarding offers made that were longer term... are just now being made public by the team. Are we to imply these were recent offers? It's not made clear that they are.

From today's CBJ chat; take it for what it's worth - sorry there is no direct link.

I don't think there's any connection. This is a case of the club not trusting the player. Let's be honest: they don't trust him. They think he's the type to rest on his laurels. When he showed up this summer looking rather buff and muscular, they were suddenly willing to go long-term. Early in the summer, anything longer than a bridge was a non-starter. The club is going off his entire body of work, his personality ... the stuff you've heard all about through the years. The agent's looking at his numbers, looking at the contract offer and saying, "You guys nuts?"

If RJ can't handle the truth, that's his problem.

One deal has been offered worth $6 million over two years, another for six years, worth $32 million and a final for eight years, worth $46 million.

I guess I don't understand the 2 yr @ 3 per. I would think that 2 @ 4 would/should be acceptable to the Jackets. I'm guessing that Joey's side isn't coming off the apparent 6 (Jackets 3 plus the 3 apart) per for 2 years.

Assuming the stated offers are flexible if the other side moved towards them I'd guess we'd see a deal finalized in a few days.

If both sides are dug in hard then both are to blame.
