Oh I agree. But I can envision a scenario where it could happen, though. It's not a very plausible one. But more plausible in a largely casual fan market vs. New York, though.

That's all I was saying, a better team with better players is always the better business investment. Especially a North American like Getzlaf. There are some markets where they may not be able to relate to a European superstar, but a North American I think makes that point moot.

He seems to have a decent stat line. I thought he was a promising player.

He's a decent player, but there's a few people (one in particular) who say that if we traded Etem for a guy like Weber (in a theoretical trade), they wouldn't be a fan anymore.

That same guy also said that he thinks Ducks management view Etem as the next Crosby.

Is he admitting to a regional bias or does he think he's making an informed hockey opinion?

I believe he's being serious. He can barely make a legible post, so I have to assume he's just an idiot.

He also said that we should pick up super star prospect Shane McColgan because he's also from CA!

Well I remember Snoop being at a bunch of Ducks fans in 2007, maybe it's him.

The rangers and others passed on getzlaf felt he wouldn't provide much offense at the NHL level and be more like a third line center (horrific scouting)

Then others passed on Zach Parise because they felt he was to small (just as awful)

Whoever was running the rangers and isles scouting departments that year should have been blown out of the league for those fails

Who did the Isles draft?

The Kings also did awful. The Brown pick was okay, but they could've had Getzlaf, Parise, Kesler, etc., and they also picked Brian Boyle and Jeff Tambelini with the two picks before ANA drafted Corey Perry.

The Kings picked their captain and one of the best players during their cup run and got a solid 4th liner in Boyle (albeit for the Rangers). They got a 3rd round pick for Boyle, we got nothing for Jessiman.

Still, when you have 3 picks, and all you get out of it is a 50 point winger in a draft filled with superstars, you didn't do too well. I'm sure if the Kings could go back in time, they wouldn't still pick Brown.

somehow were managing to give pouliot ice time consistently.... what the ****. dude is awful

:shakehead

Not to beat a different dead horse, but this conversation is so played out. If a guy who put up the numbers this kid did in his first year at Dartmouth came up in the draft today, with THAT size I really doubt anybody would be complaining about grabbing him 12th overall. I wasn't nearly as engrossed in the prospect pool then as I am now (I was much younger obviously!) but when you read the scouting reports on him it makes sense why they would have went after him. The Rangers had him as the 4th best player in the draft that year, for whatever reason.

I totally believe Dolan wanted the "NYC kid" storyline because that's how Dolan operates. When he gets involved in things, they usually go wrong. But let's be honest for a second, Jessiman was a monster prospect before his injury. Yeah, Getzlaf was OBVIOUSLY the better pick 10 years later, but if the Rangers didn't get him at 12th Jessiman would be somebody else's first round disaster. Ankle ligament damage is horrible though, and can seriously be a career/life altering injury. I had almost the same ankle injury playing hockey that a year+ later had me struggling just to put a skate on. I feel like this would almost be like if the Rangers had drafted Sauer with a higher pick and people got on Sather for doing that TODAY.

This is gone over time and time again and once again it's a previous scouting regime. It was Maloney and Renney. Gordie Clark didn't start heading drafts for the Rangers until 2006.

"Tom Renney, as good a judge of hockey horseflesh as there is, was in charge of the Rangers' scouting when they took big forward Hugh Jessiman (No. 12 overall in 2003). "Yup. That was me," said the Oilers coach."

Getzlaf was the reason I wanted Bjugstad in 2010. Rangers still need centers in the system let alone a power center.

Not that I want to keep beating this particular horse; but how come Jessiman was never able to transfer his game into an effective bottom 6 player like Boyle was?

Both were 2003 1st rounders who never got close to their hoped offensive potential, but from what I remember of Hugh's scouting reports his skating, size and smarts should have been enough to remain employed in a Boyle type role
