I agree, Tats agent threatened to go KHL, Nyquist was demoted to the AHL to start the season, subsequent to his exceptional playoff series against the hawks. Babcock claimed he wasn't ready only called him up when injury troubles arrived... Nyquist then finished the season with 30goals, clearly he was ready. Jarnkrok never even given a shot, Almqvist never given a fair shot. Great way to reward a player who spends 2 years in the AHL and leads all defenseman in assists - call up Lashoff over him. Babcock doesn't handle the euros well, which is also why Flip left. Babcock would run a team out of Lashoffs and Glendenings if he could. Im surprised Cleary isn't on the 1st line any more lol. Nestrasil cut too soon, he has shown some potential in Carolina. Puukinen should be on this team 100%, no Q's about it. Ken Kal even said a few games ago in not as many words that Babcock must play the youngsters before the trade deadline, since Jarnkrok was given up last year without a look (someone in the org. was not happy about that) hense the call-ups for Oulette and Marchy, and more to come.

I don't recall Babcock ever saying that Nyquist wasn't ready last season. It's a Ken Holland thing more than a Babcock thing - keeping players down in the minors. The problem with Nyquist was that he was 2 games away from losing waiver eligibility and Holland doesn't think it is good business to waive players, so he tries his hardest to avoid doing it. If anything, Babcock has shown, at least the past two seasons, that he wants players up in the NHL if they're good enough. This year he was unhappy when Oulette/Jensen didn't make the team over Kindl/Lashoff, he has also played Oulette and Marchenko over Lashoff and Kindl when they're up with the Red Wings. Babcock, however, did say that the tie goes to the vet and the kids have to earn their spots. That led to beginning last season with Cleary, Bertuzzi, Eaves, etc. playing over Tatar for the first month of the season.

I do agree that Pulkinnen is 100% NHL ready, and if the Red Wings didn't have such a logjam of "depth" at the NHL level, he'd be up there already. I wouldn't be surprised if the Red Wings call him up when the rosters expand, but I also wouldn't be surprised if they keep him down until they need him again. At least when they sent him down this time, they told him what he still needed to work on. Hopefully he can figure out what he needs to do to get better and lights the lamp when he comes up next time.

My guess is come playoff time when the roster expands, Pulk will be in. This has happened time and time again with the Wings. Abdelkader/Helm played something like 10 or 12 playoff games before playing in the regular season. Nyquist/Tatar played in the playoffs before the regular season. Oullete had some playoff time last year (granted that was due more to injury). It seems like this is just a trend of how the Wings work. Get them some playoff early and often.

Recalled. Will play Wednesday against Chicago.

Leads AHL with 30 goals, 57 points in 44 games.

Playing on a line with Datsyuk and getting PP time. This is a big opportunity for him because he needs to make his presence felt. There are only so many roster spots and Detroit has a lot of young guys coming up. Hopefully he pots a couple

Had the best NHL game of his career last night. 1 goal, 6 shots, 1 post, and looked consistently dangerous all game playing with 4th liners for the most part.

Gets sent back down to the AHL and scores another goal in his first game. Ugh, get this guy out of there.

Wow, the only possible development benefit of being in the AHL at this point is to go on a Calder Cup run. Even then, he's pretty clearly learned all he can at this level and is ready for the NHL.

Yep he's well and truly in the 'too good for AHL' basket now. It's a bit ridiculous his production over the last 20 or so games.

So he is doing 1,33 points per game currently (and 0.73 GPG). Haven't really been watching AHL that closely. When's the last time someone dominated the league that way? Those numbers are just insane. Can't imagine many other NHL teams aside from Wings that would keep a player down who absolutely dominates AHL. The next year will be his last with the current contract. After that it's either give him a one way deal or ship him out (can imagine there'd be a lot of takers). Btw, the wings' upbringing model does hurt a player's financial status when they are pretty much kept down until they are 110% NHL ready. The players do lose a few years of earnings and I can't see someone getting a great deal after playing maybe one season (max) in the league before getting to the 2nd contract. In this case I don't see how AHL benefits Pulkkinen at all. He has nothing left to prove down there.

It's possible they make up the lost earnings by becoming better players at the next level than they would've otherwise.
