I dont think so, I think it's pretty similar. Matthews is on another level while Laine did good in Finnish league, he didnt exactly burnt that league either. Like Eichel, he has a cannon of a shot and is big but Eichel isn't that big so...

I would say it's Mcdavid/Eichel version 2.

If Laine was playing in the NLA I'm sure he'd easily eclipse a PPG

I do see your point, however. I'd still put this race a little tighter than last seasons.

Got a couple licks on the PP, would have been a carbon copy of his earlier highlights had it gone in. Kärpät defended quite well and shut down the whole Tappara lineup. I saw Laine trying to make things happen but I think they should just play him in the 1st line.

Pulju was the best player of the game from either side. He's been improving _so much_ during the last couple of months, it's actually almost hard to believe. He's a force out there.

I know many leaf fans are hoping for that #1 pick so we can get matthews. However I would be just fine with #2. Laine is a special player who would look great on Nylander's wing. A Laine, Nylander, Kapanen line for the next 15 years. I could get used to that.

I am praying that we get a top 2 pick. I dont really care wheter its 1 or 2. A Nylander - Laine combo would be filthy.

I found it ironic today, when Laine was non factor against his WJC-linemates.

Laine wasn't a factor at all in the game TBH. One trick pony FTW?

Laine is a bit one-dimensional, but then again so have been many of the best players in the history of the game (Ovechkin, Hull, Bure, Selänne...). Laine also has great vision, a fact which is often overlooked.

Kärpät has a dynasty team. It's no surprise they will shutdown any team in the FEL this time of a season. Dynasty also is a main factor why it took so long for Pulju to arrive. Where it took Laine less time, Pulju had to fight against tougher competition. Laine looked a 'non factor' because his whole team were inferior.

No he is not one-dimensional anyone but finnish standards, he is a stereotype of scoring winger aka sniper

I said he is a bit one-dimensional and I stand by it. He is, as you say, a stereotypical scoring winger and that is not at all a bad thing to be.

Not sure why but I have the feeling we'll win 2nd overall, which is great and that mentioned line is sexy, but feel Matthews would work better for building the team as a 2way C

If he is only good offensively that doesn't mean he is one dimensional. One dimensional is that they only do one thing good like MA Bergeron was only known for his shot and nothing else. From what ive seen Laine is an excellent shooter, hes fast has great vision and can be physical.

Note to self: don't ever use language that can be misunderstood on a message board if you don't want to be misunderstood.

I agree to disagree on the meaning of the "one-dimensional". That said, I wouldn't even categorize Laine as completely one-dimensional although he is a pretty pure sniper. I only said the whole thing in defense of Laine in the first place. Many of the best scorers in the history of the game have been pretty one-dimensional in the sense in which I understand the word.

I won't discuss this topic any further.

He does look a bit disinterested in the defensive zone at times, but he's actually good on forecheck. He's very good at stealing the puck. And offensively he is known for his elite shot, but his vision and passing are also very good.

Patrik Laine is my first choice from the players available in this year's draft. Until now, only individual goals of his were on YouTube.

I've decided to compile all of Laine's goals (and some other plays) from his 2015-16 Liiga campaign into a concise package. Instead of digging for individual goals, we now have all of his goals in this audiovisual presentation. All of the goals are shown chronologically.

Great vid. What's the first song's name? It's pretty good :).

the big question: Is he ready for the NHL next season? He would be ahl eligible if need be.

Might need 20-30 games in the AHL first but at least a 9-game stint definitely. Depends a lot on a) what team is he drafted on (if it's the Oilers he will be up with the NHL team the day after he's been drafted, but if it's the Leafs then Lou will keep him in the AHL dog box for two and a half seasons :D) and b) how his defensive game adapts. Because his offense will, no doubt.

The Leafs can draft Matthews.

I would be happy with Vancouver picking either #2 or #3 in the draft.

Ended up at 33 points (17+16) in 46 games in the regular season. And he is in his longest pointless streak of the season (4 games).

Word has it that the scouts that are able to watch him play everyday say he's the most skilled player in the upcoming draft. That's what I've heard, not what I'm saying. Also "they've" said Matthews will be 1st and should be based on his position
