Can he be developed into a center do you guys think ?

No.

Long answer:

His natural instincts are to drive the net and stay high for outlet passes. It would take away from his ability to score if you made him stay low defensively, because he's not the most explosive guy. If you look at all the elite centers in the league, they tend to be fast, heavy, or both. And all the strictly heavy guys are primarily playmakers. Even a guy like Getzlaf, who was a round player offensively in juniors, has been strictly an assists machine as an NHLer because his speed, which allowed him to score goals as a junior, is not quite fast enough to give him the same kind of space as a pro.

I wouldn't put him at center because he's a better shooter than a playmaker. I'd rather he not have to catch up to every rush or play along the boards in the zone. I want him to be open for a pass, and I want him in a position to get a shot off. I don't think he'll be a guy who has the puck a tremendous amount of time, and rightly so.

Also, faceoffs and defensive positioning are a huge adjustment for any player, let alone a young guy. He could take the time to learn all that, or he could continue to develop his scoring abilities. It's not efficient use of assets to divert him towards an unfamiliar position when his best asset can't be used effectively there.

He's an elite sniper who excels of the left side with his one timer, it'd be a waste of what he's elite at to move him to center. I'm sure he could do it, but its probably not worthwhile.

It's like asking could they have developed Ovechkin into a center; it only raises the question, why would you.

Thanks guy I was just curious as I watched puljuvarji play a lot more and really like his game. I've seen laine mainly at the olympics but even there puljuvarji looked like he better option. Only advantage id see in laine is if he could play center

The Olympics? Were they on the roster?

In about hour, Laine and Puljujärvi play against each others when Tappara visits Kärpät in Oulu. Such an exciting game, teams are 2 and 3 in league and there is like 5 games left of regular season. Both players has been done fairly well in recent games and this is a game to watch.

I changed that slightly. I don't take Puljujarvi over either of them

Scouts and many great hockey minds seem to disagree with you but there are enough room for everyone! Even for some unconventional thinking. :D

Nah, Laine is above Puljujärvi at this point. Apart from ISS who seem to be changing their minds about Laine(#9 to #4 to #3) I don't remember who was last to rank Pulju above Laine.

"The big four"-agencies rank Laine #1/2/2/3 and Puljujärvi 3/3/3/2.

You are the one that's talking ******** all the time.

Button for example. There are plethora of them.

Should be 2....

The difference between him and Matthews is smaller than that of McDavid/Eichel IMO

I dont think so, I think it's pretty similar. Matthews is on another level while Laine did good in Finnish league, he didnt exactly burnt that league either. Like Eichel, he has a cannon of a shot and is big but Eichel isn't that big so...

I would say it's Mcdavid/Eichel version 2.

Expect Laine to score tonight. I can't be arsed to check but as far as I remember pretty much everytime Pulju has scored against Tappara, Laine has answered back by scoring or making a play that leads into goal.
