His shot has so much power... it is unbelievable. How strong must this guy's forearms be to get that kind of velocity on such subtle motion?? It boggles the mind to see those highlights.

Neftekhimik is in the playoffs zone actually, 7th in the East.

Alas, just 2 assists for Michkov. Big regress after 5 goal game.
SKA is having it's worst season historically(for obvious reasons) and they are still mirroring Neftekhimik's record with sometging like 90-70 G/GA while Neftekhimik sits at 70-90 and Neftekhimik has a losing record. So comparing two teams it's pretty obvious. Neftekhimik is not the worst in the league and I haven't said that, but they are where they usually are, a fringe playoff team above the ususal bottom feeders. They also sometimes have good games against top opposition. Not this time obviously.

On the particular game analysis note: shame on Neftekhimik not being able to contain the giants Gusev and Michkov on the same line:sarcasm:. Their goal celebrations are funny as Michkov is like another inch shorter than Gusev it seems. On the other hand in that game Michkov has shown his ability of not being a pure goal scorer only, made some pretty nice plays with Gusev. You could see two skilled players having chemistry right away. Comparing to the linemates he plays with in juniors I guess we could see how Michkov will be even more effective with more skilled and experienced linemates. At this point I have to say the main epithet about Michkov's play is "deceptive". Both his shots and passes do not seem obvious when you watch them, but they are extremely effective as they obviously fool goalies and defencemen alike. He is not just a product of a great shot or great skating, he thinks the game differently.

Morozov and Marchenko were sent down to the VHL, so Svechkov and Chibrikov were sent down to the MHL. Despite the fact that Chibrikov is PPG+ in the VHL, and Svechkov looks pretty solid as well. Probably all others are too old or coaches wanted to test Chibrikov, Svechkov and Michkov line.

I'm not an expert on current soviets leagues but would I have it right by saying that it's set up or ranked this way.

and if so what is the gap in the quality of the teams in the leagues?

there seems to be a ton of variance in the MHL from here.

23 with Michkov/Bedard could shape up like 01 with Kovalchuk/Spezza where the Canadian center was the favorite to go first and as the draft got closer it became apparent the Russian winger would be the better player and picked first.

Tbh I don't think Bedard at any point has distanced himself from Michkov, and there are off-ice circumstances that may affect their draft positions.

The gap between MHL and VHL is substantial enough. There were a lot of PPG+ MHLers, who couldn't become more than 0.3-0.5 PPG players in the VHL. The gap between VHL and KHL is even bigger. It's like the gap between AHL and NHL, where an AHL star can be just nothing in the NHL.

Of course there are players, who are able to make a smooth transition between the leagues, similar to what we sometimes see in NA leagues. It doesn't happen very often though.
