Even the announcer acknowledges it as cheating.

And this narrative of Bure cheating is bs too. I invite you to find me examples of Bure springing before his dmen have the puck. Bure would play the zone high but 90% of the time he started the played from his high zone not from neutral ice. One of Bure's strongest skills was transition disruption, so many of his breakaways are caused by him forcing the dmen to cough the puck or him catching the pass. The call "intercepted by Bure" was one of the most frequently repeated calls on the radio back in the day.

The announcer also said it was anticipation. It's all semantics.
Point is the announcer saw what everybody else did.

"He recognizes there's an opportunity to spring loose if there's a shot block. Call it cheating, call it anticipating, call it whatever you want, you gotta get him the puck when an offensive player is reading the play like that."

Good game by Michkov. He reads the play well.

Lol okay, he probably was a lot more rounded earlier in his career. Later on he was a notorious cherry-picker and scored bunch of these goals, and I am not talking mid zone, but from high off his zone, I rarely seen him playing defense and boards in Florida, in fact a lot of scoring snipers played similar. Also cherry picking, or various forms of it, can be a deliberate tactic that can work quite well if it makes the opponent team wary or back up on its toes. I just don't see your "deeply uncomfortable to watch". You know who is deeply uncomfortable to watch people like you who criticize young talent who brings fun to the game like Michkov for no apparent reason.
Oh really, it's effective eh? Then why was Strome left alone in the most dangerous area of the ice?

Believe it or not, I actually want Michkov to succeed in the NHL. I want him to do well precisely because he can bring a fun, exciting element to the game. Being disappointed in Michkov for repeatedly doing the same exact thing that doesn't work on the modern NHL is because I want him to succeed.

I'll lobby that same dishonest accusation back at you. I think you are wanting to twist what he does into a positive because you don't care if he succeeds. Why else would you twist my words and turn your blinders on. I mean clearly, of something doesn't work for any other NHL player on any other team in the modern era and relies heavily on luck to pull off, most people who cheer for the team ornllauer would hope that the young player (who will develop) will learn not to do it, right?
