If sold to Russia the best he can hope for is MHL, I really don't get this and have not heard of this happening before.

His agent only said it could happen someday in the future during those 3 years he would be under the contract in Karlovy Vary. But it is not necessarily true. We don't know who is speaking more truth here.

heres an article from a halifax paper from 4 days ago that made this seem like a done deal now this

http://www.metronews.ca/halifax/blog/post/592049

sucks for him though that they are gonna force him to play in a U20 league where the competition is weak instead of a solid development league like the CHL....i suppose he could always play 5 minutes a night on there main team though, that should help his development

It maybe sucks, but it's responsibility of his agent. And if he's under contract and Halifax wants to get him, they should offer adequate compensation, which his team would accept. And not to steal him this way, that's incorrect.

true but he isnt evn in halifax yet, he went to train in montreal....from what others have said though they dont want compensation they just want to have the player back and thats not reasonable either if were looking for whats the best for the 16 year olds career.....both sides to show a little more respect and maturity i think

It's true. Best for him would probably be to stay in CHL, but these legal issues just need to be respected in every case, if we want some working correct relations.

The case is being dealt by the IIHF. If they rule in Halifax's favor, Halifax will have to pay some kind of compensation. I read on a QMJHL forum that the number is around 250k.

The unfortunate thing is that he for the time being has been cut from the national teams and could be cut in the future if he does end up in Halifax. But then again maybe this will be motivational to him, you never know.

Well he was screwed if he did screwed if he didnt.

If he refused to sign a contract with Karlovy Vary then he would have faced the prospect of being cut from the national teams like Mraz and Polasek last year. So he signed a contract so KV can collect in on a transfer agreement and he can be sure to play on the national teams.
He then gets selected by Halifax and tries to go over as Halifax tries to pay $250,000 to transfer his rights over. KV says no we would rather keep him and Frk gets cut from the Hilinka tournament while this all plays out, it goes to a IIHF hearing and KV wins and retains his rights.

So now Frk is stuck playing in KV for maybe 2 years, got cut from the Hilinka tournament and probably created a bunch of bad blood between him and KV and the national team.

Man I hope this all blows over and sorts its self out because I would hate for this to drag Frk down as a player, he is too good and has too much potential.

My question now is how much of a involvement the Czech national hockey federation had in all of this. I suspect they told him that if he didnt sign with KV then he would be cut from the national team. I also suspect that they were directly responsible for KV saying no to the transfer agreement and forcing him to stay in the Czech republic.

Halifax was trying to get him for free (have the IIHF rule that his contract isn`t legal). It was an incredibly dirty move. Now, they will start to negotiate a transfer fee (since Karlovy`s contract is good).

How is it an "incredibly dirty move"?. It's called business. They felt they had grounds to get Frk without having to pay 250-300K in transfer fee, and the IIHF ruled they couldn't. So how is that dirty?

Contracts have a ton of legal language in them that can be interpreted to mean different things. Also who knows, maybe the lawyers who drew up the contract missed something, thus leaving the door open for the contract to be voided. What was Halifax suppose to do? Just fork over thousands of dollars without even looking into other avenvues to get Frk in a Mooseheads jersey.

From what I'm hearing and reading, Halifax more or less expected the decision they got from the IIHF the other day. I think they still plan to contest the validity of the contract thru lawyers. There is still an opportunity to prove the contract is invalid, or even if it is valid, Frk signed it under duress. I think after that is exhausted they will look to pay a transfer to Karlovy. Although it's been reported the GM of the team is not interested in selling Frk for a price. Money talks, so we'll see how serious he is on that.

GM of Karlovy Vary said that Frk will receive today IIHF's official ruling saying his transfer to Halifax is invalid and he has to come back to CZE during next 14 days. But he also said for the first time since this all started that he's willing to negotiate about financial compensation with the player, his agent and Halifax. And if they do some deal, he could stay in Canada then.

They just wanted more money. He will be in Halifax if they decide to pay and they probably will

true. All depends on how much money Halifax wants to spend to get him. But I read something like they have rich owner or something like that? Looks like he will be there.

I don't think Bobby Smith is super wealthy, but the rink in Halifax averages about 7,500 fans a night and that works out to about 260,000 fans a year. So I'd ballpark team revenue at around $3.5 million per year.

Halifax was challenging a convention that has been in place for years. Trying to argue that if someone signs a contract before they are 18, it is no good. This is despite the fact that CHL teams have paid transferred fees on these contracts thousands of times by now. They had no case, but still filed suit to try to get a free player out of an argument that they rely upon (to prevent poaching from the CHL). They basically wasted some of Karlovy`s money, forcing them to defend a notion that was already known to be true.

Besides that, the transfer fee wouldn`t have been 250-300K. It will now though, because they went out of their way to piss off Karlovy.

That`s about 3.5 million in gates. There is also revenue off of merchandise and revenue off of concessions. Also factor in that the team gets 100K for any drafted player who played all their junior there.
