Think he definitely could have played in the NHL this year given some of the other forwards the Sabres have been trotting out there but he’s certainly primed to earn a top 6 scoring role as a rookie and should probably be on any serious list of 2019-20 Calder candidates. I expect an Andreas Johansson type impact - he’s a year younger and his career path looks eerily similar. His release will absolutely score goals at the next level and he’s proven to be a better playmaker than expected.

Olofsson and a full season of Pilut are worth the wait. Led by Dahlin, with Ullmark probably getting more starts (I know he’s been a mixed bag this year but still young for a goalie) and Nylander maybe overrated due to name but still a good prospect, the young Swedes are certainly going to play a big part in Buffalo next season.

Don't forget about Jacku Eichelson.

I'm very high on Asplund. Really trading up with 14 points in his last 10/11 games. Hoping a great camp gives him a shot at the 3/4C next year. Permanent 3C behind Eichel and Mittelstadt in 2020/21.

It'll be interesting to see what happens to the sabres top9 over the next year or two with the influx of youngsters like olofsson, asplund and nylander with Eichel, reinhart, mittelstadt, thompson, Sheary and Skinner. I wonder if they end up moving risto for top6 fwd help as well. Tho personally i think they should keep him and hope he rounds out his game moving fwd and get rid of bogo eventually instead.

The sabres near future is insanely bright. I think they'll be a dominant team in the east in a couple years.

I agree with Risto. Although he's not perfect, he has a great contract and plays a physical game we would sorely miss. A new coach could do wonders for his game in a reduced role.
RHD are hard to find.

Next season

Skinner-Eichel-Mittelstadt
Olofsson-Reinhart-Nylander
Sheary-Thompson-Okposo
Sobotka-Girgensons-Rodrigues

Dahlin-Montour
Scandella-Ristolainen
Pilut-Bogosian
McCabe

Hutton
Ullmark

That could be a playoff team. They also should have a top 10 pick that could be as high as top 5, and they have a late first. They should keep those picks, and try to draft some more high-end forwards. As good as Eichel is, he probably needs more help than Skinner, Mittelstadt and Reinhart as the next best forwards in the offensive core.

They look set defensively. I don't see any reason to trade Ristolainen. He's not a 1, but he's a pretty good 2, and they already have a 1 who will likely become the best defenseman in the league. They also have some good prospects such as Samuelsson, Laaksonen, Asplund, Borgen, Fitzgerald, Davidsson, Pekar who can help fill out the rest of their defense, and then the bottom 6.

The area where they might be shaky going forward is in goal. Ullmark isn't bad and has some potential, but a low-end starter, at best. UPL could be a starter, but I'm not as convinced that he's a top goalie prospect as some others are. I think if Knight was on the board when they pick in the late first that would be a very smart choice. Take two cracks at getting a starting goalie, and they might not need two cracks with Knight being one of the best goalie prospects in recent years.

This was the pick that Benning traded along with McCann for freakin’ Gudbranson :(

And the GM.
Kindly point to the last time Botterill referred to Reinhart as a center or indicated any kind of plan to use him as such. If it was in 2019 I'd be extremely shocked. I don't think he's played an hour at center over the course of the entire season.

Just keep Reinhardt at RW until Nylander forces the issue. With Okposo’s decline you still need one more top 6 winger if you keep Skinner. Can’t Olofsson play either side? That’ll help. Seems optimistic to expect both VO and AN to be top 6 mainstays as rookies next year. Olofsson seems the safer guy to pencil in.

The bigger issue with Buffalo is that they don't have a player who projects as a 2C, if not Reinhart. Mittelstadt is not a center, and I don't know why Buffalo has developed him in the middle of the ice. He's not having a good season either. It would make more sense to have him be the complimentary winger on Eichel's line and Reinhart 2C.

Mittlestadt is going to be really good. His drawback right now is physical strength and conditioning. He still looks like a teenager but for the most part has been getting better as the year goes on. He has the skill and works his ass off, once he matures physically, I think he realistically projects as a very good 2C. Amazing hands.

And Olofsson and stuff...

What is his nickname? Olaf ?, from the Lost vikings game.

Indeed, he is the son of Olaf... he is Olofsson.

The same as Bjork is the daughter of Gudmund , she is Bjork Gudmundsdottir .
Yeah i am a Swede i know how our last names are made. Nicknames dont have to be anyting about the name or the first name. Or are you refering to "Homersson" , "The magic mansson" aka " Pashasson", " Sid the kidsson"," Foppasson" , "Mojosson", " Grannysson" ," Hammersson" , "Lurchdottir"? ;)
But yeah i don like Olaf, it just popped up in my brain. Liked the game thou.

I will call him "The Thorminator" or " MjoMjo" from the Thor movie. Or just "The loafer". But he will probably be called "Vic". Hope he continue to develope.
