Send him back to Frölunda if they do not feel he is close to get a call up. Don't let him rot in the AHL like Nylander who's development have more or less stagnated.

That’s what I was saying, though. He already spent years in the SHL developing. It would make no sense to send him back there.

This is completely different than the Nylander situation. I agree that Nylander should have spent a year or two in the SHL after he was drafted. He was too young for the AHL, in my opinion. But he was 18.

Olofsson is 23, was drafted 4 years ago and as I mentioned, already spent years in the SHL.

The Sabres have slowly developed him.
But Now he needs to get adjusted to the North American ice/game. I don’t see how it would help him at all to be sent back to frolunda. I would actually argue that sending him back to frolunda would hurt olofsson’s development instead of helping it.

As far as Nylander, I wouldn’t say his developments looks stagnant this year. He has been playing great so far and looks to have taken a big step forward. He almost made the Sabres out of camp. He was the very last one sent down. And now he’s playing great in the AHL. He and Olofsson are likely one of the first 2 call-ups.

The AHL is a good league for transitioning into the NHL. It is not a good league for development, in my opinion. If they are confident that Pilut and Olofsson will get a call up in the near future, all is fine. If not, no need to keep them in the AHL. I believe both Olofsson and Pilut are ready to make their NHL debut. Hopefully it happens soon. If they feel Olofsson has some a few things to work on, he's better served to do that in Frölunda.

Happy to hear Nylander is doing good.

Pilot wasn’t a Sabres draft pick. He was an undrafted signing for the Sabres. I don’t think they can send him to the SHL even if they wanted to, right?

I think They’d have to terinate his contract. Or Pilot would have to refuse playing in the AHL and leave for the SHL himself.

I am not sure how the rules work with Olofsson. Can they send him to frolunda being he is already 23 and 4 years removed from his draft? I don’t think he has any contract agreement with frolunda anymore. He left the SHL to come to North America (Btw, he was only able to sign a 2 year entry level contract because of his age).

Has there been many times where a player was sent back overseas after already spending so much time there after his draft year?

It seems to me like, with guys that develop overseas for that many years after their draft, once they come to NA they are here for good and only go back overseas if they flame out in the NHL/AHL. I’m not sure though. Maybe I’m wrong?

Either way, I just don’t see where it would make sense. He just got here. He already developed in the SHL. Now he needs to transition to N.A.

I think he is here for good. I don’t see him going back to the SHL unless he fails in Buffalo and no other NHL team has interest in signing him.

You make a good point. Maybe it's not really applicable in this situation. I do know that players can and have beeen loaned out to SHL clubs when they've needed further development.
That either Olofsson or Pilut would be stuck in the AHL for considerable time is probably unlikely. They could simply choose to return home if that was the case. It's just frustrating to see some players like Andreas Johnsson stuck on the Marlies while another Frölunda player Artturi Lehkonen saw NHL action very soon after leaving. Its one thing to lose players to the NHL. A whole other to lose players to the AHL.

Just checking his stats i noticed he is averaging almost a point per game in his first year in North America in Rochester.

How has he been looking?
Will he eventually excel at NHL level?
Should be be full time NHL next year?

Hat trick and 4 points last night.
Scored more goals in the SHL than Elias Pettersson last year.

Wicked release.

Will he excel? Never know with any prospect but he has excelled at every level so far.
Hoping he is called up yesterday.

Is there a spot for him next season? I see he already turns 24 later this season. Not that his age really matters but i assumed he was younger!

Absolutely, we have a spot for him right now.
He would be our 4/5 winger behind Reinhart, Skinner and maybe Sheary/Thompson. We have very little W depth.

Pominville is gone next year.

If Skinner doesn’t re-sign this kid could find himself in one of the more plum spots in the entire league.

Why isnt he up this year? Cause if there is room then i assume its not a numbers game... Just to allow him to keep getting used to north america hockey?.. Ive read good things but just weird he hasnt been given a chance yet

Im intrigued by the guy!!

Because our GM is obsessed with the AHL team.

Many Sabres fans are wondering the same thing.

Ok good.. I assumed i was missing something as a non fan lol

But i guess it sounds like we are all missing something here haha

Another goal for Olofsson tonight. His shot is lethal. You can see it on the Rochester twitter feed. I need to figure out adding tweets. Word is he will be called up first week of March.

4 more assists today against the Marlies.
Scored his 27th goal last night. Real solid first season in the AHL. Should be on the Sabres opening night roster next year.

Think he definitely could have played in the NHL this year given some of the other forwards the Sabres have been trotting out there but he’s certainly primed to earn a top 6 scoring role as a rookie and should probably be on any serious list of 2019-20 Calder candidates. I expect an Andreas Johansson type impact - he’s a year younger and his career path looks eerily similar. His release will absolutely score goals at the next level and he’s proven to be a better playmaker than expected.

Olofsson and a full season of Pilut are worth the wait. Led by Dahlin, with Ullmark probably getting more starts (I know he’s been a mixed bag this year but still young for a goalie) and Nylander maybe overrated due to name but still a good prospect, the young Swedes are certainly going to play a big part in Buffalo next season.
